I ate watermelon today
for dinner.
Standing on one bare foot,
the other tucked
behind my knee,
aware of myself as
I slid the knife into the flesh
to dig out the black seeds.
Seeing myself standing there
at the sink alone
eating watermelon
juicy and red, ripe and sweet.
Never wanted more to be seen
than at that moment...
squeezing the red flesh
between my fingers
and trying not to cry.

This...

...is wonderful slice-of-life stuff, and not just watermelon slice. Liked this very much.
