the boxes are still unpacked
in the corners
and the mattress is flat
on the floor.

we would say this is our house
but we haven't
found a key
 for the back door.

there's a pizza box
for a table
and some spare change
on the drawer.

we would go on down
to the laundromat
but they closed it
the month before.

there used to be some reason
for keeping it all together
but we can't remember it
anymore.

Tired

Life's like that. A discount store or a pizza take away in this case. In the end you're happy with what you have and pleased to leave with change.

Compelling

Reads quite nicely/moves along.

I especially like the final stanza.
