...As I have met many girls who 'discovered' themselves this way, and the process IS much as you are describing. In fact, it can be so much more disturbing to the families as the girls hid any inkling of their 'issues' for years, buried under their professional work as a male and (usually) failed relationships. You've nailed so much of it that I really am at a loss to provide any helpful direction at the moment other than adding its a really lovely story and as usual your writing is very well done.
