Style and clarity....

I loved this writer's effort. She (or maybe "he") has a great style and flow. I had a similar BG, growing up in the Bronx but I was lucky enough to get busted at 16 and sent away where a Corrections Officer pushed me into writing and hammered at me until I discovered I actually liked it. Congratulations! Keep up the good work! I'll search for your work.
