FYI, first person stories just don't work, countless writers on this site insist on doing it, they get a lot of comments just like this one, it does not work. 'I' didn't do shit. It's just a lazy way of writing.

Second person, actually

No, anonymous. First person is like an autobiography.
I did this and I saw him do that, etc.

This story is second person. Second person talks to another character or talks to the reader.
You did this while I was doing that, etc.

But, regardless of that small correction, you are right in that it is very difficult to make it work well. And I didn't think this story was one of the successful attempts at writing in the second person.
