His office and her farm may be quite distant in life style

but if he can drive from Holton to NYC "By the time he reached his office it would be the beginning of a new day" it is only a short commute. If he really wants to unravel his old life, the one left in ruin by his divorce, it would seem he could still take care of the important clients while truly coming home.
