I just googled the term and come up with lots of references, including youtube videos on how to clean them, e.g., www youtube com/watch?v=d2TKZi1Mtpg
One of the things that both amuses and distresses me about the below average intellects one sees gathering at various internet sites is the abundance of evidence that certainty and knowledge are so often orthogonal phenomena.
Criticize a story based on an uniformed opinion on septic system design? Really? So, Star Trek and Star Wars are bad because warp drive doesn't actually exist? Really? You've never seen someone react in a certain way, so you downgrade a story by saying that *no one* would ever react in that way. Really?
The normal distribution guarantees that most people are casually stupid, at best. The first thing they are stupid about is not being able to form any sort of concept of their own mental limitations.
(NOTE: the only folks who should be offended by these comments are those who recognize their own limitations, so that should be a vanishingly small group.)

I don't know how you define "these" days, but we bought our suburban house 30 years ago and it had a septic system.
We didn't get rid of it and hook up to the local sewage system for around fifteen years.
