Well-written and interesting

While I haven't yet read any of Christian Black's stories, this essay makes that prospect appealing. The article is thought-provoking in the most basic way. Why are all these people reading the stories submitted to Literotica? Do most people appreciate storytelling or are they just out to get off as fast as possible? Well worth reading.

Feels a little like narcissism near the end.

Lost interest and found that the end was nothing more than

the author talking about why some of his stories didn't

do as well as they should have...when it comes to the voting.

It's obvious why.

condescending & smarmy

the level of arrogance is insulting to the reader. lost

interest less than halfway through. especially with what comes

across as only the author's view and opinions are true.

Going to add my voice in support

Found your philosophy work insightful and perhaps a written work of what issues I've wrestled with. I may not agree with all your assessments, but then again I didn't feel you wrote them as a treastise on unyielding views. You made me think, that's important!

A Kindred Spirit!

Exactly, Black. In too many "erotic" stories have I seen the characters degrade into hormone driven fuck-machines. The sex is shallow, the men and women even more so. As a fiction writer myself, I tend more toward engaging characters and plot situations than fuck-fests. In short, I heartily agree

Thought provoking.

I don't understand the comments about this essay coming across as smarmy or the like, as it seemed nothing of the sort to me. Rather, it was an interesting and honest essay that seemed almost like discourse, which I found well worth the read.

I rarely leave coments but this was wonderful

This was wonderfully well written. I'm about a quarter of the way thru' reading Christian Black's stories and they are the best I've read on Literotica for a while!

Totally Disagree

Everyone is NOT bisexual, porn is NOT the root of all evil for everyone (obviously, a lot of people -- men and women -- enjoy it), erotica does NOT have to have some elaborate plot, and your opinions are NOT the opinions of everyone, nor the most important ones to consider.

This. Sucked. Ass.

Everyone is NOT bisexual

**reread this section, friend. The statement was made from a philosophical, perhaps an idealist viewpoint, not an assessment of reality. The author even admits to disliking gay sex. Your choice to start this way smacks of homophobia.

porn is NOT the root of all evil

**strawman tactics here. Either that or careless reading.

erotica does NOT have to have some elaborate plot

**only if it's to be effective for the author of this piece.

your opinions are NOT the opinions of everyone

**how much of this article did you read before you let your insecurity and oversensitivity drive you to flame it? Personally, I'd guess you got defensive because you're embarrassed to be browsing a smutty site, because you rationalize it as literature, because this author's rejection of the sexual pastiche of "porn" threatens the integrity of your delusions. My suggestion? Get over it.

Sucked

This sucked ass. If you dislike porn, why do you write it?

I agreed with a lot but there were some absolutes that aren't quite absolute ;)

<rant>I'm a female writer and I love writing from a male perspective. Men (for some reason gay men even more so) are such erotic beasts with such visually evident signs of their enjoyment. Women on the other hand look the same whether they're aroused or not. Women on women is boring as batshit because it's tongues, fingers or rubbing two negatives together. The only time it gets remotely interesting is when a dildo or a strapon is involved and really, why not just pick up a willing man and get a real dick? I doubt they would object to being used that way ;) i mention penis size in inches, a lot of women who write in the gay category do (and there seems to be more women writers than gay men in that category for some reason). But you are correct, I would never mention a bra size, but then again, women rarely feature in my stories because not only are they boring in bed, the average female emotional grid and the finite list of cliched heroine personalities is boring as batshit too. Straight men also are pretty boring. They're rarely challenged to evolve as lovers and they go only as far as they need to in that way. Plus they've got to save their hard ons for intercourse. With a gay encounter, (at least in fiction) mutual orgasm is practically guaranteed and I've never met a man who walked away from sex without cumming. On the other hand, every woman I know is well acquainted with sex sans orgasm. I've even tried to convince myself that I can be satisfied without the big O. This common self delusion is vital to every woman's sexual sanity. Without it, we are doomed to a lifetime of disappointment and frustration. PMS is not PMS. It's slippage of self delusion. Well, that and fucking estrogen :P I wish a thousand times over I was born as a gay man. Nature even made anal sex more enjoyable for men than both anal AND vaginal sex is for women so as far as I'm concerned, gay men have the best of fucking everything in bed. I do agree that porn is mechanical, unoriginal, repeitive trash (yes, even gay porn). I do detest the fact that in porn men seem incapable of ejaculating anywhere besides a woman's mouth, face or tits. I do heartily agree that the 'why' of sex is vastly more inreresting and exciting than the 'how'. Thinking of it in that way hadn't occurred to me so thank you for that :) i think talking dirty is hot but not calling names. "slut", "bitch", "fucker", "whore" during sex is distancing, dissociative, disrespectful and disgusting language. Why not just openly encourage rape if you're going to write that in somewhere? I also cannot stand use of the word 'man' as a prefix. Man-meat, man-juice, man-tits, man-fucking-anything instantly reduces any piece of erotic fiction to cheesy 70s porn. god help you if you refer to a man's ass as a 'pussy'. Condemn you to hell if you even dare *think* the term… (ugh, can't even write it myself)… 'man-pussy'. A blanket guideline: try not to reduce yourself to a stoned, giggling, 13 yr old boy when you write (jizz, spunk, wood, boner, chubby…grow up, would you?)</rant>

?

You lost my interest @ "everyone is gay".

Not really true.

An honest sounding self criticism. Interesting comment by AkshunLove before me. Curious that women writers are so prolific in the gay male category. I have heard of this phenomenon and it's an enigma for me. Guess i dont know enough about female proclivities as i had assumed. But isn't that the issue with most men?
