an absolute chill. I loved the internal rhyme and alliteration you used in the first stanza, it resonated in the absolute speed of the images. The twenty one gun salute echoed and the closing stanza then suspended like a tear awaiting that last order. Growing up as an Air Force brat to a combat pilot, this possibility was always there, but never really considered. Your poem has vividly expressed itself with an impact that gave me a hint of the incredible horrific emotion of this event. This impact, that goes beyond the mere words, is the poetry I so love. Powerful poem... I gave it a 5 and I think the vote was too low.

I find this to be one of my favorites.

Written by a poet new to Literotica,

it does not have the most perfect structure,

but it does surpass most others in content.

The images are very strong and fresher than might be expected when dealing with this theme.
