Curious

I'm curious to see if anyone will try to excuse him.

It was a good story until he knowingly, willingly cheated on his wife.

No excuses for that I'm afraid.

A cheater is a cheater

Ok , maybe the first totally out there scenario could be overlooked , but then to continue the affair for 3 years !
I hope his wife finds out and takes him to the cleaners !

Maybe everyone should have a second chance.

I feel sorry for Angela and also Carols husband.
Its bad enough for him having a low sperm count, but given the opportunity he may have come to terms to a her having a one night stand and getting pregnant .... but Carol cheating, bringing fantasy to life, an ongoing affair, producing children. Hard to forgive all that.
Angela appears to be a loving wife, but married to a sad rich man who just has to have it all at any cost .....
An interesting tale inspired by 'total recall' .
Well done Mr imhapless and thanks for sharing.
How about a follow up ? ......Angela finds out and demands her turn at Second Chance.
Likewise Carols husband realises the truth behind his children ... revenge of some kind perhaps ?

No Second Chances

Life is not a rehearsal, it is the real thing. Make the best out of it and don't be a spoiled brat or a crybaby. Cheaters are those people that try to beat the system. They think they are "smarter than God". Oddly, even with all the well documented evidence on cheating and the often murderous consequences these assholes keep trying to beat the system. The sin of cheating/adultery is like all sin, it starts as a thought and progresses to words and then deeds. Even as a thought it is no less a sin against God and a spouse. This tale lacked the true consequences that always come with sin. It is almost good.

Enjoyed the story immensely on a ' science friction ' fantasy level versus the ' suggested life template level' previous comments seem to take it as

I've always dreamed of being in a serial monogamous relationship with 4 women rotating each one as the seasons turn so this little fictional reverie hit a chord. It would make up for not living in Los Angeles, San Diego or Miami . Another reason to look forward to the leaves turning , the first snowfall, Cinco de Mayo and 4th of July.

Honestly I think imhapless tapped briefly into a subject with rich potential. Virtual Gaming is setting up leagues with people like Mark Cuban owning franchises. Mixed Martial Arts incorporating elements of standup karate and judo with grounding in wrestling and jujitsu is the hot sport of milenium on literally a global basis. One life and wife is often seen as a grind for both sexes as life choices and vectors abound evermore with every 7 years.

My sole qualm is the fictional narrator's dishonesty especially when he has elementary school age children with first wife. He must excel at time management far more then I did as a parent at that demanding age. Soccer dad duties must not tax him as much as most men. Fine story overall though - this is a erotic fantasy site and imhapless delivered on finding a fresh. engaging premise to muse and expand on. I thank him for sharing.

I have to agree one more time with @Whackdoodle...

I have to agree one more time with @Whackdoodle...It was a good story based in the movie "Total recall" (even with the forced issue of him believing it was possible...), he was tricked (like all magicians do trick the audience)...The problem was the aftermath...that was like a bomb that destroyed the whole story: "he knowingly, willingly cheated on his wife from then on" living a double life, as the other cheater did to her husband...I'm sorry, but cheaters of any kind are selfish people, and this one didn't only cheated his wife, but also his small children...A selfish and low character that deserves a lot of pain in his life, ending alone and suffering...And giving his wife a chance to be really happy with a decent man...I like @imhapless stories, but this one, only deserves 1*

He's a cheater......

When his wife finds out, she'll be a rich woman when she sues Second Chance. Not to mention the huge settlement she will get in the divorce.

5* for writing

There's only one way to be faithful.

There is an infinte variety of ways to cheat. This is another one.

If the narrator had been a woman, the BTB pack would be in full cry.

Interesting comments. SUGNA is a bit Old Testament coming down off Mt. Sinai with his opinion carved in stone. LORDSLAMDAWG always worth ruminating.

Maybe we'll see more erotic SF?

How about sex with androids? Does that constitute infidelity?

I did wonder if it would turn out to be real.

You handled the theme very well, though the end was not what I had expected.

However, I think that you could do a part 2 of this.

What if another husband or wife took part in Second Chance and worked out that it was real, but instead of hiding it from their spouse, told them and got revenge on the Doc and Justine?

Reminds me of a science ficion story by Isaac Asimov

There actually is a machine that helps relive old memories, where the protagonist buys time after saving enough. But the he opts for the memory of a quiet evening of suburban bliss - dinner with the kids, time with wife while the maid cleans up, etc. No wild monkey sex - this is Asimov, after all. And when the experience is over, he leaves the machine and back to a postapocalyptic hell, wondering if he'll be able to scrounge an extra potato this evening...

Where it changed

His experience at Second Chance was basically a futuristic version of jerking off to porn, or at least that was what he was led to believe (I'm assuming here that future inflation has resulted in the $10,000+ he spent on it being not any more of an expense than dropping $50 or so on internet porn today, or else spending that much on porn without his wife knowing about could bring its own set of issues). And while spending a lot of money jerking off to porn might not be good for a marriage, it's still not cheating.

The moment he decided to look up the other woman in real life, he became a cheating scumbag.

Interesting story

Personally, I liked it.
But where are all the outraged chest-beating paragons of virtue and haters of infidelity.
Initially, he was tricked so that was liked being drugged. That's a one-time act without responsibility.
But when he continued, all integrity was lost.
Why do the knuckle-draggers vilify only female cheaters?

@Lord Geoffrey

Did you not read the comments ?
90% of them took the husband to task for cheating !
Not a lot of the usual Trolls because this author doesn't allow anonymous comments !
Or are you like some who just can't help their reflexive Misogyny comment , canned version .

imaginative, well-written, and sexcellent. i would enjoy reading this as a series, involving a different client and situation each time.

it should be a feather in your cap that your characters' actions outraged the reader.

thank you!

Confused

For someone who valued fidelity so much to completely lose that part of him really put a sour taste in my mouth for this tale. It was an interesting take but that was really off-putting.
