Is there a reason for the extra "e" in the poem?

spelling

cob packes and there were more
I apologize, it is quite disrespectful to the reader to leave such glaring errors. I am usually much more careful. I took these from my livejournal instead of my wp and forgot to run them through word check. I am a creature of habit out of her habit. I will get back in. My apologies.
