Appreciated the story

The woman got cocky and spilled her self-centered agenda. I'd give some grief to the narrator but no one knows he was a fool better then him. I like how there were real people per se in the story. ..no hot 40 something milfs or gym rat dad.

The big picture is that they raised their kid successfully and now it's time to think what they really want out of life. Too bad it isn't each other, but that's life and the author did a very good job examining a not uncommon relationship in terms of dysfunction .

I know why he doesn't divorce her.

He stays around because hope springs eternal.

He loved her, devotedly once - enough for him to allow her to make him her doormat.
However, once she flapped her gums, he got religion on the subject of being a doormat. He's now demanding her respect - the very respect she has denied him.
He wants it - from Her. Not only does he want it from her, he now wants it from her on a silver platter - voluntarily, while she's wearing a slutty maid's uniform and literally BEGGING for his touch - after his spanking her. Nothing less will do - She has transgressed THAT much in his view (and she certainly seems to have).

For him, no other terms are remotely acceptable from her, and despite getting his sexual muscles exercised some with the neighborhood lady, he still wants his wife's love and loyalty. However, she's both on the clock, and running out a very short leash.

Whether his strategy is sound in achieving those goals or not, he will now come out of this relationship with his self-respect intact. So, which future will it be? Divorce, or reconciliation? The latter will never happen without their improving their quality and quantity of communications DRASTICALLY. Her reaction to realizing, in fact, that he doesn't CARE which way it goes may be the one thing that brings her back...or not.
Her pride, and self-respect (and/or the degree to which the opinions of others matter to her) will ultimately answer the question. How will her pride look to her when she has to admit to herself her absolute failure as a wife? Will she remain in denial, or will honesty come home to visit her before it's too late?

Good story - 5* from me.

Friend of my brother was in the same situation. He was married for 15 years,really nice guy. Worked as a Construction worker. His wife was hairdreser. One day he wanted to suprise her and all he heard was almost the same conversation. It really crushed him. His wife said it was just a girl talk. All women say the same things,especially when they go to salons like this one. They did try Marriage counseling but at the end it didnt work. He cant forget her words and 15 years of Marriage plus 2 of dating seems like a waste to him. They are divorced now and both of them are single. My brother and this guy are still good friends.

Great tale. Personally if I overheard the conversation at the bridal shower the marriage would have been over then. But he stuck to it and now does what he wants. At this point the deceiving, manipulative wife should be alone. Alone and miserable.

Story advice from a fool

1) FLASH stories are usually pretty short (a couple of hundred words...1000 max)
2) They usually have a very direct - one scene, one conversation - format. There may be a second scene, which ties up or twists or completely flips what happened in the first. Often with a great deal of humor regarding characters actions, perspectives, or the human condition.
3) This was a FLUSH story, as in, flush with cash, as in, too much! Man, there were half a dozen or more story lines here. Each could have easily been a stand alone FLASH story. This was like a big ol' collection of story ideas and you couldn't decide which one to do so you tossed them all in the pot. Story stews rarely work, good luck.
4) For the LITEROTICA über masters and mistresses - please add a FLASH category. 1000 word max, anything goes. C'mon.

Good story

Ok , first on these open endings , since you birthed this baby you get to end them however you want.
But expect a lot of your readers to howl !
This isn't too bad , but please do not go full bore JPB on your endings ! To me a little ambiguity is okay , but not a steady diet of it.
I agree with LSD , that it was a very realistic story , no raving beauty's , no Navy Seals . But a situation that has undoubtedly played out in someone's life before.
I really did enjoy it .

too close for comfort

It wasn't my ex wife and a sister, it was 3 sisters being "taught" how to train their husbands by their mother, who learned it from her mother, who learned it from her mother . . . .
I didn't stick around, it was the only way to slip away from the matriarchy and re-establish my own identity

Not A True Flash Story, But...

I enjoyed it nevertheless. The dialogue reminded me a little of "Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?" in the acrimony spewed between the couple. The "trained" husband is a stereotype that is an unfortunate reality for some men. Marriage can be an ongoing fight for supremacy and power. Sometimes it's the wife who dominates, other times it's her hubby.

What to say about this?

Yes. I would call him a survivor. I would suggest that occasionally in a relationship, if only to maintain civility, the benefit of the doubt needs to be offered to good gestures.

However, as written, this wife was created as a lost cause. So what was the point of him offering such benefit of the doubt?

So he keeps his stuff. His marriage is, at least for him, unchanged. And frankly, for her, it also seems unchanged. She lost access to a little money. That seems it. Now she can't manipulate him? Well...who cares? She still has her friends and her things and if, again as written, she doesn't care about the husband, what loss is there for her that he unloads his bile upon her? Just a bit of added impoliteness to her day.

If she didn't care, there is no loss. But we weren't showed that she cares.

One part which stuck out was you implied that this guy had sex with that single woman in the neighborhood, and then, he didn't. But that might have been me over reading into the story.

“I knew in every marriage both spouses need to compromise into order to make it work” – Yes, but in order to compromise BOTH sides have to give a little. SHE’S not giving an inch, and he’s giving everything!

"Terry, I'm sorry I said those things." – The problem isn’t that she SAID them, it’s that she MEANT them!

Do What You Have To

When you find out that you have been manipulated and treated like some kind of pet throughout your marriage and the women in your family are firmly in support of your wife, you have no choice but to fight back and warn the other unsuspecting men. His love had been wasted on his controlling wife. Theresa was not the right choice for him; but Rosa may be a godsend dream come true. 4 stars.

All men want their wives to be happy and content. If there's no injury or disrespect in the act of pleasing, go for it. But when the wife lies, abuses, disrespect and humiliates...well that's just not acceptable. Terry had every right to be devastated by his wife's betrayal.

Well THAT was fun......or not.

Harsh but entertaining story about the demise of a marriage. I don't see that he has any choice but to get a divorce. There seems to be no going back and with his wife showing her true colors, there's no going forward. Not sure he should be jumping into any other relationship any time soon. Just get the divorce, keep working on his weight and move forward without the fat shrew attached to his neck. A sequel could be interesting. Thanks for the read.
