It's an original premise, I'll give you that. It seems you went a long way to get to that punch line. You could have told this story in a two or three line joke. Instead, you gave us a lot of details about the end of the world...just to get to that punchline?

There is a lot you could do with this premise, but if you've ever seen the TV show "Last Man on Earth", it's already being done.

For me, a hard story to critique.

First, I found the premise of the story depressing and hard to take. No one wants to think of the end of the world. But...and that's a big but, the writing is excellent and you have to give the author an "A" for originality.

Even though I wasn't crazy about the content, this story is well deserved the highest marks I can give. 5 stars all the way!

Now I have to go and search the other stories by this author to see if they are as high as caliber as this.

I don't usually appreciate sci-fi and wasn't looking for it in this story, but it's a great hook and hope there's a part 2. Good description and characters. Limited dialogue was right on the money.

... of two ways this scenario could go for Maggie after leveling that type of hurt on someone and then ending up in a situation where he could literally do ANYTHING and there's no-one to punish or even stop him.

The written ending is the kinder direction (and funnier).

A cheap thrill. The entire story was contrived for the finale punchline.

A fertile man and woman remain alive at the end of the world. And his priority is reasserting his scorn for the unfaithful bitch. A fitting ending to a misplaced cartoon. Put it in Science Fiction or Fantasy.

The end of the world? Isn't that the sense of desolation felt when someone's betrayed by their one 'true love'. And so the interloper left the adulterous, and our hero got his just due. Did it happen in some far off post apocalyptic world, no it happens every day.
