This is a good story, and I enjoyed the slow burn to it. This makes for a more believable tale. If I could make one suggestion to make it better it would be to make your dialogue separate and more defined. Having it lumped in with the narrative and seeming as an afterthought lowers the impact for me. What the characters say makes the story, as it's all about them.
