Restaging the award ceremony was such an obvious trap that someone would have to be a complete idiot to take the bait. With Sharples out of the picture, the only person left that met that criteria was Brownlee.
I wonder if Brownlee will live to face trial and execution of if he knows enough about anyone to make him a candidate for the next murder Don has to investigate.

You are a good writer and this was a good story that gets rid of one of Crowbar's more incompetent enemies. Though you have cut back on the sex in your stories, writing more non-erotic stories, your writing has improved with sex only being used as an integral part of the story telling and not just for the same to have sex in the story as some of your early series had used sex. For instance, the sex with Bettina is the last chapter was how Don let the trap for Brownlee slip into the the media. Yeah it was obvious, but Don was counting on Brownlee being Brownlee.
I also notice it has been a while since you have had a sexy orgy hosted by Crowbar and Laura with other members of their inner circle participating, especially after a solved case. Most of that probably had to do with the ending of the Consultant of Crime and the after events which have been of a dour or dire nature. I mean an orgy after a funeral is pretty obnoxious, while a more reflective time with family and friends is more appropriate. Maybe a sex orgy/football watching party at the Cabin, while someone babysits the kids and dogs at the Mountain Nest would be more appropriate to start off a series. You know a New Year's Eve Party turns into a planned group sex orgy and everyone stays naked and horny while watching the Rose Parade and the early football games. Then during the Rose Bowl (which is one of the two semi-final games for the National Championship) Don and Teresa get a call from dispatch that breaks up the orgy.
Yeah, I know this sort of story line would have to wait a few series after the Town & Country Elections which have yet to take place, but seeing Todd and Don double penetrate and/or spit roast Teresa and Laura would be an entertaining read to start off a series. And if Tanya Perlman and Jack Muscone, along with Martin Nash & Sandra Speer, Callie Carrington & Cindy Ross, The Miltons, and Seth & Joanne Warner are also participants in said sex orgy/football watching party complete with partner swapping, double penetration, triple penetration (or making a woman airtight), ski jumping (or making a woman airtight while she is jacking off two other guys), and spit roasting that would be especially hot.
