You left way more unanswered than you told us. Why not divorce? What was the basis for the relationship, just sex? Why did it end?

So beautiful, it seems so real.
This story was so beautiful, so bittersweet. It reminds me of my life. My husband is like this, but I cannot leave because I have two small children.
I met a man like this, but he cannot leave for his own reasons.
We live so far away, but we find ways to be together. Being with him once every few months is worth being with my husband for a whole year.
Maybe the story ended with telling us about a two year affair because the affair hasn't ended yet for the characters.
