Not an original idea but one which can be an enjoyable read if done well. Unfortunately this was very much a “she said - he did.” Short sentences can be used to make the story pacey and build up the excitement but this was not that type of story. The sentences needed to be longer. Joining two/three together to give the story the leisurely feel that would fit better. The words are there but they needed putting together better.
