The best ending yet
I feel that this is the best ending yet. This story shows Steve going through a range of emotions and coming up with the best solution for himself and his family. They are going to get counselling which will help heal the wedge between them. And yes, he took out his anger in possibly the best way possible without actually hurting Donna. This was well written and enjoyable. Thanks for writing it.

I have to agree with comments below this is the best ending yet. Most of the others have tried to absolve the wife of responsibility by alluding to drugs and/or semi-hypnotic effects. Here there is no such dodging of responsibility. The wife simply screwed up and everyone acknowledged that.
I believe the forgive once idea is a great one, anyone can slip, but a second instance would indicate a pattern. The introduction of counseling is great. It is important for both of them to understand how this happened so easily and how to avoid a recurrence and help rebuild their relationship.

I haven't talked to her about it, but I'm pretty sure Patricia51 wouldn't care for how turned on he was looking at the pictures of her cheating as if it were the most natural thing in the world. I'll speak for myself: it ruined for me what could have been a good followup story.
Also, I understand that in a short story you have to collapse the time frame. It's hard to tell a story of reconciliation over months or years. But he went from finding out to being excited about it to thinking it helped save their marriage in a few hours. That's way too little time to lose the anger and depression unless he finds the whole thing turns him on and he'll want to loan her out in the future.
Awesome Finish
This is definitely the best ending by far. The husband didn't turn out to be some wimp husband that enjoys having his wife with other men (Whoever thinks that's a fantasy needs to be smacked). And the best part? They're staying together. They're working towards mending the wounds caused by this. If alcohol caused the problem, I'd like to see her stay away from drinking. But you could see the love they have for one another.

Points taken off for his unlikely arousal at this point and for the whole "worshipping the ground she walked on" deal. Love is one thing, idolatry quite another. Actually, he did hurt her, and punish her, by calling her what she had become- a slut, who didn't care that she was fucking his best friend (or supposed friend). I like that he punished her, but then forgave her. And counseling is good. Punishment MUST happen, if forgiveness is not to be an act of vindication.

ending so far. Not that it's perfect. But one of the endings being eclipsed is mine.
I have no problem with the husband getting an initial charge out of seeing the photos. I'm not so sure his mind set would have let it build to the point it does in the story. And I have to agree, the ending reconciliation was reached it too short a time. The initial attempt to try and work it out would have needed to be made by that afternoon, but painting the picture of a rosy future occurred much too soon.
What I especially liked was going through the steps and reaching what is almost an original story about reconciliation. What I especially didn't like was the feeling the story was being drug out to allow posting sex. It really slowed the story and got in the way of working the emotional tension out (for me, anyway)

Part of a fucked up society...
Our society is fucked up. There is nothing wrong with this kind of behavior, except for the machismo attitude of the "wronged" husband. I don't like this plot.
Excellent Ending
This was a fitting conclusion to a thought provoking story. Initially, I did question what Donna would have done had Gil not initiated a Blackmail scheme. By the end of the story I thought she would have told her husband everything regardless of the consequences. Her actions were regretable ...and redeemable, making Steve's decision the appropriate choice.

Also the time frame was way too short - over e few hours he changes from a badly hurt husband to a point where all is rosy.... Sorry, but not at all likely.
Having her take her responsibility for her actions and not blaming drugs or hypnotism saved your story from oblivion.
The fact they both had to face the hard truth was well done. They just managed it too quickly.

Good Writting , Bad story line.
Very few men would find out about their wife cheating on them and reconcile in the same day. I think that the hurt and betrayal would would take a lot of time to heal, if ever. I also did not like the way that you had him getting sexually arroused by her actions or pictures. I myself would have been too sickened to ever think of having sex with her for a long time. I did like the way you had him thinking things throught. I just disaggree with the plot line.
Not Realistic
A man who actually loved his wife as much as Steve claims to wouldnt forgive - ever.
Love & forgiveness are seperate things & all the posters on literotica who keep saying 'if he really loved her, he would forgive her' are just talking out of their asses.
The only way someone (man or woman) would ever forgive willing betrayal under any circumstances would be if they didnt actually love their spouse enough to care what they did or if they had some kind of self-esteem issues that made them think they deserved it (even subconsiously).
You write the guy as someone who loved his wife so much he would never even dream of cheating but he also loved her enough to forgive her. The two are mutually exclusive if he doesnt have some sort of mental issues.
I think that you cannot truely love someone unless you believe they truely love you. If you wouldnt betray your spouse (extra-marital sex = betrayal only when one partner isnt informed that they have an open relationship) then a normal person would question their love for you after a betrayal.
If I cant imagine knowingly hurting someone I love (infidelity does equal hurt to some people & if you have a different view on that subject than your spouse, you shouldnt even be married in the first place), how could I believe they could hurt me & love me at the same time. Might not be reality but it is the way real people behave - our reality is shaped by our perceptions & since we cant live in someone else's skin, we constantly project our version of reality onto everyone & everything around us.
When you forgive you are saying that you are unwilling to give something up (sex, family, money etc.), not that you love them more than the person who was unwilling to accept betrayal.
Im not saying that true love = monogomy or that no relationship can survive infidelity. Just think that all these stories that keep presenting an idealized version of love & forgiveness are wrong. Many marriages survive infidelity but its not because the spouses love each other to the ends of the earth - the opposite is more likely true.
Poor Ending
Everything about this story is great, except the ending. I can understand the husband forgiving her, but to have unprotected sex with her after she committed adultery? It would have been more realistic to insist on counselling, and no sex (exchange of bodily fluids) for several months since HIV doesn't show up for 6 months. He may even insist on seperate beds for them.

the story is actually very good, the initial one, that is, with a strong --- flawed but strong --- woman, who makes a seemingly impulsive mistake and is willing to bit the bullet immediately by telling her husband.
that part is actually very believable.
it is how some of these endings make the husband to be, THAT is the part --- those are the parts to the story --- that is NOT believable, that is pathetic.

The story was a good ending to the original
I found the story believable. Looking at some of the comments about what Steve should do I found his want of controlling Donna (showing he was first in her life not Gil), having hard and rough sex (from the pain), and keeping her in his life (from the loving marriage they had and the kids) was likely. I would if I was him have her tested for STD's but could understand that he would not be thinking straight. Thanks for the read.

When this story first came out I had never heard of Literotica and consequently missed this wonderful follow up. I have stumbled across a few of the other alternate endings and this is the best one yet. I did have a few comments on the construction of the story but since its been out for so long, why bother.

Even without their agreement, I think he would/should forgive her. She told him everything, stood up to Gil, and she is totally repentant. He surely recognizes that she is hurt almost as badly as he is. Maybe as much.
So he is following the logical course of action.

After reading several of the comments, I can see some readers don't understand. Maybe I don't either, but when people are in the throes of relationship issues, the best decsions aren't always made. All the answers aren't immediately apparent. Marriage is about commitment. According to the story they made the promise to give each other one "mulligan" as it were. In the constraints of a short story a good story is told. Forgive, don't forget. The husband is not being a fool. He's loving his wife. How many of us could be strong enough to give that second chance?

Destroying Evidence?
My favorite ending (so far)! Hubby has some conflict and mentally debates options. He makes several bad choices, such as going to the Bull's office after Law Enforcement has suggested he should not. Accomplishes nothing excepts putting himself at substantial risk and having to 'eat' Gil's gloating!
Worst Choice? Hubby DOES NOT yet know that Law Enforcement has found and verified the original blackmail photos - yet he burns up the copies which have Gil's DNA and fingerprints on them and on the envelope. Matter of fact, it would probably have been tough to get the search warrant without some physical evidence. (Prez would probably have granted permission anyway, and probably should have been called by Sheriff to isolate Gil and secure evidence as deputies were en route!)
