Great Poem

your tale of a simple kiss is everything but simple. You have made a romance out of a passing thing. I adore this poem, and hope you keep writing more!

A troubling contrast

I have to give you 100% because it flows so effortlessly and achieves what it sets out to achieve. So my response is all about the content (or message) that I think defies being rated by me.

It's the decadence that disturbs me, the anonymity of animal attraction given free rein while the human essence is distilled to a single bestial consciousness. It's full of the "wild" but lacking the "sweet." Now this might be simply because it's one moment in a string of endlessly changing moments that make up the totality of of the person represented by the voice of the poem and the poem is like a snapshot which can be highly suggestive without representing the subject at all.

Obviously your poem has had quite an impact on me and I can't really discuss it with total objectivity, but, for me, it has that kind of feeling depicted in the movie, Cabaret which explored a growing sexual decadence, a turning away from reality, that coincided with the advancement of fascism in the German polity during the 1930s. There seems to be so much of the same thing happening right now with the fine line between nurture and abuse in relation to sex (perhaps between love and greed would be more accurate) being difficult to sort out.

When all is said and done, however, you do write well and all of the above is more musing on current reality than criticism of your poem.
