They review it as if they think the author is saying, "Hey, check out this true story I just wrote." People....it's a FANTASY. It's FICTION. The tension between actual desire and the need to fit into society's designated mold yields his chronic indecision and inaction.
As for the comments, it seems the usually anonymous crew blasting this and other authors as perverts and wimps, etc., want all the free speech for themselves. They feel free to savage authors and dissenting commenters, but then stand by free speech when anyone criticizes their criticisms. They demand toleration of their own intolerance. This has to be having a chilling effect on authors.

Nothing wrong with that, and I even cut the believability extra slack for being in the "unreliable narrator" class.* Unfortunately, though, hubby's utter inability to call her on it and start some honest communication strikes me as just far enough over the edge to screw up any suspension of disbelief I had. *That* is what knocked the story down a notch.
It's far better than a "00" but if a character is going to be as lucid and concerned as the husband is, he can't cave like he does in the end. For that, I give it a "75." If it was up to me (it's not), I'd give it one of two remixes in the close. Either:
1) They talk about it, become swingers and live happily ever after (easier but longer)...
*OR*
2) Hubby has a little more internal dialogue as she jacks him off where he comes to terms with it (could be short, but perhaps more of a challenge).
The end has its own kind of "hot" (especially with her closing "'I guess you do like it,' she purred."), but having the guy just roll over deflated the mood for me. Personal preference on one hand, but I still think the narrative isn't true the characters the writer created. Maybe if hubby was an accountant...

Contrived, but powerful... nice read
Good, memorable story; one I keep coming back to (no pun intended).
Good points:
- Gradual revelation to clueless husband of her growing indiscretions. Shown from his POV as he tries to deny, but has to accept, worse and worse news.
- Fairly imaginative situations where she has some plausible deniability at first.
- Realization that she's been doing this for some time.
Bad points:
- Language and narration a little coarse at times; tone inconsistent
- "Game" at the end felt contrived; blunted the impact of his wife's fooling around, since everyone (except the husband) seemed to be in on it.
Frankly, I had no problem temporarily identifying with an unappealing character (spineless husband) for the sake of the story. Lead characters can't always be heroes.
Also frankly, I'm "borrowing" the idea for a future story. Hubris, I guess; no reason to do this unless I thought I could do it better. We'll find out.

As for the comments, it seems the usually anonymous crew blasting this and other authors as perverts and wimps, etc., want all the free speech for themselves. They feel free to savage authors and dissenting commenters, but then stand by free speech when anyone criticizes their criticisms. They demand toleration of their own intolerance. This has to be having a chilling effect on authors.
Is there a different plot you could come up with?

Let me start out by saying that I thought the story was decent. Even a character that might otherwise be subconsciously rationalizing himself into agreement to keep his supply of kink is going to reach a threshold where one psychosocial issue outweighs the other. Okay, he's profoundly pathological - that is, he's willing to let an enabling behavior overrule rational behavior. At this point, he hasn't reached the priority-flip threshold yet. He wants to see his slut in action (I say that in a good way) and he's willing to overlook her promiscuity.

3) But wait: He is an otherwise successful attorney who suddenly somehow can't argue a case that has significant personal bearing. The writer isn't being true to his own characters.
...I realize the flavor of the story is about a wife that runs willy-nilly and the husband that loves to watch. Nothing wrong with that, and I even cut the believability extra slack for being in the "unreliable narrator" class.* Unfortunately, though, hubby's utter inability to call her on it and start some honest communication strikes me as just far enough over the edge to screw up any suspension of disbelief I had. *That* is what knocked the story down a notch.
It's far better than a "00" but if a character is going to be as lucid and concerned as the husband is, he can't cave like he does in the end. For that, I give it a "75." If it was up to me (it's not), I'd give it one of two remixes in the close. Either:
1) They talk about it, become swingers and live happily ever after (easier but longer)...
*OR*
2) Hubby has a little more internal dialogue as she jacks him off where he comes to terms with it (could be short, but perhaps more of a challenge).
The end has its own kind of "hot" (especially with her closing "'I guess you do like it,' she purred."), but having the guy just roll over deflated the mood for me. Personal preference on one hand, but I still think the narrative isn't true the characters the writer created. Maybe if hubby was an accountant...
