I'd like to point out something...what if the girl wasn't a pretty woman like Laci...would it be okay that she was killed? How is this not so pretty woman different from Laci? I'm not criticising your rant...I, too, abhorred what he had done...he took something that was beautiful and killed her...but some of your statements kind of make me think that if the woman was a "dog", it'd be okay that she's dead. I'm not saying you believe that...just pointing it out.

I can see where one might interpret it as you did, but it was not written with the intention of excluding anyone because of their looks. The fact is I think Laci Peterson was a quite beautiful young woman and I was speaking of her in particular. I have lost children, and to me seeing a woman as pretty as her who seemed to love being pregnant only added to her beauty. So no, nothing I wrote was meant to be applied differently to anyone who might look different, in any way. I had reservations about posting this rant at all, but after seeing a recent news article on Mark Hacking, I felt I might as well. This site has non erotic categories, as well as many non erotic reviews and essays, so I decided to use it as a chance to get on my little soap box for a minute. Thanks for reading.

i completely agree with you, especially regarding the renewed degredation of women in our society. it is not coincidental that this comes simultaneously with the decline of the feminist movement.

As to the 'prettiness' of Laci Peterson...come on. The news media serves these stories up world wide as modern day 'bread and circus'. Just look at the current Aruba story.

When I first saw a picture of Laci, I could swear that I had met her before. To this day I'm not sure I hadn't. A family member of mine worked with Laci. She said, "Laci was everything the media had said about her, loving, kind, compassionate, outgoing, with a wonderful personality". A short time before Laci's disappearance, another young pregnant woman went missing. About 2 mins of news coverage was all she received. She too was found dead. Laci had a beaming smile and came from a family of some status, the other woman wasn't from status and did not have such a bright smile.

It is very sad to hear statistics that pregnant women are more likely to die at the hands of the father of their unborn child than any other cause. I agree with your comments that too many people have been taught to have no respect for women. Look at TV shows like Jerry Springer. As a society, we must work at teaching respect, stopping all forms of disrespect, and setting a higher example to our youth. They are our future.

Makes me angry

Makes me angry two men who we all know are guilty get to live in prison so long waiting for death. Peterson could actually out live most of us with the way California system works. When their beautiful wives, and in the Peterson case a beautiful child were killed, no justice we could give out will ever be enough.
It does not matter if these women were beautiful or not, everyone is beautiful in their own way. What matters is these men, these murderers will never suffer enough mortally for what they have done.
I rank these men and men like them right up there with child molestors. Why can't we just rid them of life as they did their wives. Why can't we rid our society of child molestors the way they rid the nations children of innocence.
I'm so sick of scum being allowed to walk among us. Good rant.

Please, people, learn to believe in yourselves

Very well written and a great read. Makes excellent points about how sick relationships are perpetuated and sometimes reach an ending as tragic as that for Laci (and Lori). May I add one additional take on "If a young woman is convinced she has to tolerate the shit, she will learn to tolerate the shit": If a young woman--or ANYONE, for that matter--who is unsure of themselves hears the lie long enough, they will start to believe that lie. You know, the old "catapult the propaganda" type of thing.

I also like about this article the effort taken to explore the mind sets of everyone, including the families of the people involved; this lends it much more credibility.

And thanks for the info about the statistic on pregnant women--I never was aware of that.

As someone who lives just a short distance from Modesto, the Lacy Peterson case was near to home and it hurt just to look at that lovely smile and know in my heart that she was dead. As I have gotten older, the death of young women hurts more and more and I am not exactly sure why, other than I see my life ending sooner than later and I know they lost out on a lot of life experiences. I am 100% in agreement with what you wrote and in fact, I am going to sit down with my four grandchildren and have a talk about respect for women.

Now I am going to favorite you and read the rest of your writings.
