Did the author throw us these sex crumbs to partially justify the later reconciliation? I was about to comment re Tom spending the night vs. Marianne spending the night when I realized Marianne could not have done that when the kids were home; so that had only been happening while Tom was on trips AND the kids were at camp. (Detailed justification = she would not have shuffled the kids off to the grandparents on a night she was home alone with the kids. That would have raised way too many alarms.)
