The revenge affair, as this story shows, really only happens when the second party has decided they aren't part of the marriage either, and, at least subconsciously, has no intention of trying to save the marriage.

This is the dark side of cheating & revenge affairs; the focus on the marriage was lost as was the marriage; both parties did it and both end up alone, lonely, and lost. They go to work and life goes on but they're not living it.
please give us part two and put this train wreck back on track. you can end with divorce and everyone gets on with their lives, or you can end with them working it out and getting on with their life. makes no sence for the action to bring both lives to a halt. if they are both going to live in misery, might as well be living it together. at least they can get laid regularly that way. keep up the good work.

Cheating not only damages the cheated, it often has ramifications that may become legion. My parents affected 4 sons, today we are as diverse and alienated as were our parents. One understands, one hates, one marriage after marriage, and myself, who came to understand cheating always says I love, but just not quite enough to.........Best to make the mate your only passion and desire. It seemed to work in my life.

Depressing story
Although this story was well written technically, the plot was depressing and not erotic in any way at all.As Kanga40 once wrote,' In a good story you have to have someone to root for". If you accept that premise, this is not a good story because neither of the characters is particularly likeable. Well done, well written with a very realistic and sobering theme. The destruction of a loving relationship is too often the end result of a meaningless affair. In this case both partners ended up alone and unhappy, which is not that surprising. It would be nice to revisit them after a bit more time has passed.
The story was written very well. The only thing that I find missing is that he did not take anything out on her boss for his part in the affair.

I just wonder why they say they love each other,especially the man. He just let the mistake of the other destroy their marriage. The wife and her boss, and the husband and his secretary were both meeting at the same time (Dinner), on the same days of the week (Tuesday & Thursday) and going to the same motel,using the same room, and staying for the same amount of time. What was HE thinking?!
Part of truly loving someone is the understanding that there is no "getting even" or getting "what's fair" from our partner. Marriage is not a 50/50 proposition, but a 100/100 where both partners give all with no regard to the cost.
This story has all the earmarks of a couple who believed that everything should be "equal" in their marriage, when the reality is that things can never ever be truly equal in any marriage. How do you measure it? Whose opinion are you going to consult? Obviously anyone who goes into a marriage with such an illusion is bound to fail at it.
These two don't even have kids! Is that because it wouldn't be fair, because she would suffer the pain of child birth and he would not have? Furthermore, this story seems too antiseptic and made up. There is no jumble of complex emotions in any of the characters, and so on a plausibility scale it just doesn't measure up.
If you add in some angst from the husband's perspective and give him a heart of flesh in place of the cold machine you gave him, it will work much better. Dig deep within you to find his inner turmoil, and you will have arrived as a writer.
Also, in order to make this a story about justice rather than failure, make it so that Bill and Jennifer never had sex during their "affair", but only during the time Bill knew that he was under surveillance. At the 40th birthday party, Bill needs to let Kathy know the truth--seeing as she would have gone through the required emotional distress to learn her lesson--so that their marriage can be repaired for the long run.
Also, in order to mark the new beginning, have Bill suggest the addition of at least two babies, now that she has quit her job and the mortgage is paid off. This would be a better tale.
Time for LW authors to quit including protestations of "I'll always love you."

Revenge sex is just a way to end the marriage and punish the person that hurt your feelings. It's a childish way of saying, "You hurt my feelings with your betrayal and I will show you that I can do it too. I will go even farther and divorce you after allowing you to think you have a chance of reconciliation."
All he had to do was leave and file when he found out. That is taking the high ground. It wasn't like he hadn't found someone else already. Though he quit seeing Jennifer after the 8 weeks. It was pretty hard to feel sympathetic for either the wife or husband.
I think we all know that after a long marriage, being romantically "in love" is not a realistic expectation. Loving, sharing, and caring about each other is much more realistic. Of course they are both going to be unhappy unless they find someone else to replace all those feelings of trust, loyalty, companionship and comfort.
Finding a replacement ain't easy either, it's called starting all over with another person you know nothing about. We all know that and a lot of us have that experience after divorcing. I think they could have tried to reconcile. They were both damaged by what they did but could possibly get over it if they care about each other in the real world. Cheating is a human failing and is not relegated to just women. Most of us divorce because we just wanted to, the wife cheating is a handy and good excuse. We don't have to go on being loyal anymore.
The writer is giving us some consequences to cheating and it makes for a good story.

Few of us live by the high moral and ethical standards we espouse, and those that do, usually get the short end of the stick. That's just the way the world is, and this story wasn't all that far removed from the real world. In reality, some husbands and wives (as well as boyfriends/girlfriends) will go to more extreme measures, like murdering their spouse's lovers and even their significant others.
So this story wasn't really all that fanciful.
These well written words are no more than a mild but potent reminder of just how awry a relationship can end up under certain circumstances, like infidelity.
As for a wife getting a divorce, just because she has evidence of her husband's infidelity, after she began cheating, well...it goes back to what I said about morals and ethics.
As for revenge, well, as much as I'd like to take the high road, I can't. It's the nature of the beast, both male and female, to want pay back. Is it right? No, but it is human.
The writing was well done and the plot was even better.
Perfect example of how to ruin a marriage. What I can't imagine is the balls, and she had BIG balls, of the wife hiring a PI to scope out her husband knowing she was having an affair herself. As the saying goes, "Ye reap what ye sow." She destroyed the marriage. If she didn't cheat the husband wouldn't have either. Because of her there are two loveless people. Fuck her for doing it.
However, not sure I liked the end. It was quite balanced, and a novel plot, but at the end,. either a reconciliation, or both of them go on to date others would have seemed more realistic.
I know in true life this story would never happen as a whole. I hope at some point one of them would person up and admit there true oneness for each other and seek counseling. It might make a good sequel. An excellent story in parts keep up the writing. Thanx

A lesson learned
Few of us live by the high moral and ethical standards we espouse, and those that do, usually get the short end of the stick. That's just the way the world is, and this story wasn't all that far removed from the real world. In reality, some husbands and wives (as well as boyfriends/girlfriends) will go to more extreme measures, like murdering their spouse's lovers and even their significant others.
So this story wasn't really all that fanciful.
These well written words are no more than a mild but potent reminder of just how awry a relationship can end up under certain circumstances, like infidelity.
As for a wife getting a divorce, just because she has evidence of her husband's infidelity, after she began cheating, well...it goes back to what I said about morals and ethics.
As for revenge, well, as much as I'd like to take the high road, I can't. It's the nature of the beast, both male and female, to want pay back. Is it right? No, but it is human.
The writing was well done and the plot was even better.

Perfect example of how to ruin a marriage. What I can't imagine is the balls, and she had BIG balls, of the wife hiring a PI to scope out her husband knowing she was having an affair herself. As the saying goes, "Ye reap what ye sow." She destroyed the marriage. If she didn't cheat the husband wouldn't have either. Because of her there are two loveless people. Fuck her for doing it.

However, not sure I liked the end. It was quite balanced, and a novel plot, but at the end,. either a reconciliation, or both of them go on to date others would have seemed more realistic.

I know in true life this story would never happen as a whole. I hope at some point one of them would person up and admit there true oneness for each other and seek counseling. It might make a good sequel. An excellent story in parts keep up the writing. Thanx
