Yes, a sad story, but
perversely, not at all depressing. It has a true quality about it, an affirmation of the goodness that can be found in humanity in the strangest, darkest, most painful situations. I want to say I enjoyed the story, but 'enjoy' would be the wrong word. I'm pleased you wrote it, I'm pleased I read it. And so very pleased you chose the ending you did. It had to end that way. Thank you for a thought provoking read. Mat xxxx
Damn, Colly!
What a tear-jerker! Dark subject, yet uplifting in a way. Don't know what you were so concerned about. ~Imp
A Sad Glimpse into a Dark Future
Sorry, don't vote. Well written dark fantasy that may be a look at a troubling future. Thanks for sharing, very powerful. Keep writing.
Snarl!!
Too believable. Always, always there is somebody who decides that the only way to deal with 'those people' is death.
Well done, Colleen.
Powerful - spare and unsparing
And all too possible.
Well done, beautiful.
Powerful
So glad you explored another side of your talent. It was a story that needed to be told. Well done.
what a great story!
harking back to the late 60s/mid 70s school of feminist grim, with more than a touch of good old 50s hard sf too. the only thing is, what's it doing on a down & dirty site like this? you don't often see good sf at all, let alone here. it may be about gays & lesbians but there's 0% sex in it
Tear jerking
Sucha dark tale and no hope in it. Its sad that its so realistic. I can actually see something like this happening. It really is lovely.
Dark yes But with a human touch
Colleen, Beautiful job.... I can see why you were obsesed with getting it down on paper..... excellent.....
Growth...
In order to grow we sometimes need to expand our roots as well. This was a definate change of style for you. Yet you have proven your ability to adapt and take a new direction without sacrificing the quality and depth of your work. A truly moving story.
As for the darkness; how can we appreciate the light without exploring the shadows?
Great work, Colly.
Colly
This is probably one of the finest pieces you've written. It's very strong and superbly told in a small vignette. It's content and emotionally quality is exceedingly well contrived. Excellent work.
Sam.
Dark it may be...
...but it is not depressing. Sandra saves it from that. I am an unrepetant believer that there will always be Sandra's among us. Sometimes their gestures may seem futile, but they always have meaning. And sometimes a Sandra will be in the right place at the right time. This may be sad, but it has optimism in it. Lovely.
It was beautiful...
I cried.
Brill
Simply brilliant, emotional and emotive, shows a great empathy with your characters.
Please, more like this
Great story
I liked that story alot. Just enough detail to keep the story moving along and the dialog with the characters made them come alive...The only thing I would have suggested at the time of writing, would be to follow through with the countdown at the end.
Thanks for a great story
Wow, Colleen
That story grips and makes you feel their pain and fear. What are you doing writing for a website, you should be making the big bucks...
Nicely done.
Good pacing and a logical conclusion. Well written.
One problem with your science. Things don't float just because they're in vacuum. Lack of gravity or being in a zero-g situation will cause them to float. Sudden exposure to hard vacuum can cause a body to temporarily bloat and even rupture.
A very touching tale
A sad, moving story. It was well written, otherwise it wouldn't have elicited the emotional responses you've already received. Count mine among them.

Good sci-fi
Right up there with the short stories in the published sc-fi anthologies.
Quality of Life?
A well told story. Reading it makes me realise how far I still have to go to reach a similar level of storytelling.
Chris
Heartbreakingly Beautiful
Very moving story, Colly. Quality of Life is indeed worthy of publication, and one of the best sci-fi stories I've ever read. Ever. You should seriously consider going pro, girl.
Good story
This is a fantastic SciFi short story... Pity it was never published. Colleen was a very talented author.
