Good story, but...
I never understand in stories like these where one person goes to work and the other one is unable to contact them, why don't they try when the person is coming or going from the office? She would have found out where he lived and then had even more chance to contact him. Trying to get past the security guard one time and calling a few times is a pretty pathetic attempt.
Very concise, well explored feelings, and logical outcome for consequences. She finally woke up to reality and seen that her reasoning and justifications were hollow. He, faced with the tape, as she had described her last 'meeting', could not find the forgiveness inside himself. Putting myself in that position, I do not know if I could either. In general, we look for happy endings, (myself included), but in real life, this is a too frequent outcome.
......where the husband isn't in a rush to make it all his fault so that he can any and everything possible to stay married to the wife.
Man was this a good story. Very, very sad, and emotional, but good none the less.
I'm not a fan of sad stories, but at least the main character found some self respect, after all the locker room talk. Somehow thats what's missing from a lot of stories written here. But you did a very good job, IMHO on this story.
next story before making any judgments, well now it’s time. Your first story had a hell of a build up for so light an ending. It felt almost as though a different author completed the story. Even taking that into consideration, the writing skills, ability, and gift you displayed zinged you to the upper echelons. Your second story, the one I just read, cemented you there. From now on, you are in serious trouble. Deliver your best, which is now known to be damn good, or suffer the verbal abuse of the comments. We will never accept anything less from you. Keep up the good work, a fan always.

Interesting - for the no scoring, as this would have blown the roof off in a very positive way - why - because it is immediately among the best written marital consequence story ever read here!!!! Very entertaining!!!
Author - an excellent effort and not just because of the thus far failed reconciliation but for the reflections, the emotions - the depths of her gut wrenching introspections and his lesser known stated and suspected ones.
It is likely that you know someone who has been there because this was very reflective of real life. It wasn't glamored up with excessive sex - it clearly walked the path of two someone's unfortunate reality. More Please...

Great story...
I really liked the way you made the husband react! I wish we could see the same in Ohio's House of Cards, where the deceive was much worst. Thanks for writing to us.
This was better than your Special Day series. Keep writing, you have a knack for getting to the feelings on both sides of the affair. I particularly appreciate it when the wife, instead of the husband, does the "it was just sex" dance...when men say it, the reaction from women is always "you got to be kidding..." Thanks again for a superb story.
This would-be fantasy story does not belong on Literotica. It is obvious that you must be an elder in your fundamentalist church to write a hate story like this one. People like you make me sick in a society that has created a library of dogmatic ideas about how people should act in their sexual behavior that was created by God to be "good" that allowed for sexual intermingling at will between consenting adults.
Harsh? I don't think so....read your Bible and you will not find specific references against free loving behavior.

Sorry about the wing nuts
I must say that I read and enjoyed your story, it was well written and thought out. Unfortunately there are a few wing nuts out there such as don##, or whatever his number is. A large number of us like a story such as this, albeit maybe with a different ending or some other changes, but there are those such as Don who seem to think a marriage is useless, and it should be free sex for everyone. And many authors provide us with such stories, being ones I quickly back out of. If he doesn't like this, let him read what he wants, and let the rest of us enjoy well written, thought out stories that more accurately portray real life and real consequences of one's actions.

Homo Sapiens Vs Bonobos
Both like sex a lot. Which is good!! Primatologists tell us that the bonobos are, among the socalled great apes, the most intelligent, in addition to the fact that they are also the closest cousins of ours, Homo sapiens.
They, unlike the other great apes, and much more like us, also have a lot of sex to lessen tension; that is, these primatologists tell us they use sex to "settle" conflicts. So you see both young and old, males and females, jumping on and off one another, sometimes really having sex; other times merely "simulating" sex, especially among the young immature ones.
BUT There's ONE major difference separating BONOBOS from us Homo Sapiens:
the latter have evolved culturally --- and perhaps otherwise, too --- to a point, or in a parallel trajectory to, where IN ADDITION to jumping on and off each other, having seemingly random sex, WE homo sapiens also sit down together to WRITE out explicite CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENTS as to what we should or should not, could or could not, do whether with or without our "partners", "mates", "spouses", "singnificant others" or "others/non-partners"
Point is: Sure, describe all the sex --- in whatever graphic details you want --- but being a creature we think slightly more intelligent than chimps and bonobos, we ALSO do expect "morality" come into play in our decisions and activities and puruits and consequences.
Whoever who think story, even erotic stories, oughta be like those cheap $15 porn DVDs --- with nonting but mostly fake groans, screams, yelps, grunts, and continuous orgasm, WITHOUT consequences ---- they are better off NOT reading but simply go watching those cheap DVDs all the time.
This story is so good that I gave in to temptation and analyzed it in some detail as a way of pointing out some of its qualities. For the analysis averse - be forewarned.
With intelligent writing you present an intelligent description/analysis of one couple’s psyche as you give an efficient and lean narrative of their failing marriage.
I LOVED the brilliant description of the wife, as she is waiting for her husband’s return from work. I will use this portion of the story as a demonstration for the rest of the story. Rarely do I read such a brilliant peace, artfully stylized a-la Hitchcock! As the wife becomes aware that something is unusual (her husband’s delayed return), she still has not seen anything concrete. But her guilt tells her that it might be IT. She reinterprets the banal surroundings at home (a routine week day evening and dinner preparations) as an ominous sign for her being caught! It’s still the same house, with the same setting - only several hours later. Then, by deduction or by intuition, she checks for physical proof to what she suspects – and sure enough, the evidence to the disappearance of her husband is exposed. The proof was around her ALL THIS TIME. She just DID NOT THINK THAT SHE HAD TO LOOK! This section of the story is brilliant on several levels. Dramatically - it could make a great scene in a Hitchcock style thriller. The shift from normal environment to a loaded one in a sudden move (for the character), as we watch and wait for the character to find out, is a classic Hitchcock dramatic tool.
Thematically, think about the concept of Cheating. It works BECAUSE you cheat on the rules of the marriage. The spouses are not supposed to think that they have to look behind their shoulders all the time, and check on their other half. Once you break the mutually self imposed loyalty rule (and eventually get caught), you also revoke the very logical premise for its existence. Since you have acted without informing the other person, the other person does not need to let you know that he/she too is not bound by this rule anymore. The ACTING WITHOUT INFORMING is the violation, the revoking and, as we see, the outcome of the cheater’s actions. All that is left now is to wait and expect the unexpected – any similar act by the cheated spouse is legitimized by the same premise which guided the cheating spouse. As long as you keep mutual information and knowledge intact, you have a marriage which is alive. Once you cut this line of life, you may not know it yet but the marriage is dead. For this wife “knowing” is the beginning of her undoing. In reality though, it’s only her perception. Her husband tells her so at their confrontation. When I see 'knowledge' and 'falling' dramatically attached I am reminded of the similar connection that the Greek tragedies always highlighted. We already know that the protagonist is doomed. He just has not learned it yet – and when he does he falls. Well, Change of fate, blindness and knowledge have not been invented in this generation.
Another theme: The disappearance of one spouse. The husband’s disappearance demonstrates in a concrete way what cheating means – the disappearance of your own spouse. At the moment when the wife realizes that her husband knows the truth, she also learns another truth. That truth is that she was cheating on herself as well, and that she had chosen to kick her husband (or one of the “two lives”) out quite a while ago. She learns that in fact, “two lives” was never an option.
A third theme: Emptiness vs. Fullness. The wife comes home from one man or from "one life" feeling very filled (with fantasy and with their sexual 'leftovers'). It quickly turns into a prolonged and acute sense of emptiness and loneliness. Her husband had literally ‘emptied himself’ out of her life. She would have plenty of time to do a cost benefit analysis. One can be pretty sure that she would not repeat the same mistake again.
The lessons of personal experience are painful and effective, but often they come at a very high price. The cheating personal experience is reserved to the self centered the naïve and those who lack self awareness. With that in mind I keep wondering about two issues. The first: can you lead mature loving life and then SUDDENLY turn around and have a PROLONGED affair? The second: can a spouse detect any of the above vulnerabilities and preempt them (as this husband assumes). I tend to say no to the sudden shift towards a prolonged affair (highlight: sudden), and to say yes to second, i.e. - the possibility of preemptive intervention by a spouse. But I think that the story does not provide us with enough information to work with, regarding those issues. And I don’t necessarily think that it should have. Every story will have gaps of some sort. Some of the best stories are so good because of a well calculated gap, which forces our imagination to work and think way beyond finishing the reading. Evidently, I feel that way...

One of the Best Stories I Have Read!
You captured the raw emotion of betrayal!
One of the problems with the usual cheating spouse stories
is the excuses given for the lying and cheating which is
usually followed by reconciliation. This formula is
followed mainly to have a happy ending. In order to get
that happy ending the author bends, folds and distorts the
normal human response to betrayal.
If someone believes that other person is his or her soulmate, repeated willing betrayal by that person is never easily forgiven or forgotten. In this story the wife sang that old refrain "It was just sex, honey!" The idea that after a few psychotherapy sessions where you find out the cheating spouse was emotionally damaged as a child (which is the reason for the spouse to stray) now the injured party should just forgive and forget is unrealistic (if that was true we would have world peace).
Of course, there are many types of marriages and I am only referring to those casted as the "two soulmates but one cheats" type with the happy ending. In the story
"Yesterday" the husband tried to get the cheating wife to see the error of her ways by insisting that she continue her affair (he no longer made love to her). If caught the wife had planned to beg for forgiveness (i.e., fuck her husband until he forgives her) and he knew it so he turned the tables on her. This ploy was unrealistic because there are not many men would could keep their emotions under control and knowingly tolerate her behavior.
As always these comments are just food for thought and I would in no way change your outstanding story. I enjoyed the introspective dialogue of the wife as she begins to realize that something is amiss. The long absence of the husband was appropriate because it was not about anything she could say but whether he could forgive her actions. In fact, he had gone through the five stages of loss to the acceptance stage and that takes time. The way the husband handled the closing of this chapter with her with dignity and without malice showed why she loved him and the finality of the end to this relationship.
They say that they love their husbands, yet they go and spread their legs like some two dollar whore's for another man or men. They love them so much that they lie, cheat, and break their husbands heart. Who the hell needs enemies when you have a cold, heartless whore for a wife. As for the story, well written and even better (in my opinion) since their were consequences.
I found this story to be very 'realistic', as much as any of these types of stories can be since there are as many ways to react to betrayal as there are those that are betrayed.
What I found realistic was the husband, Perley's, reaction and I think that is due to the length of time they had been married. My personal opinion is the betrayal is harder to forgive, and forget, the longer the marriage has gone on. The husband has spent, in this case 25 years with this woman, raised two children I believe, and now is planning his retirement with the woman he loves. He's now faced with her betrayal of him and their vows AND has to live with the sights and sounds of her betrayal every day of his life. Can you imagine hearing the woman you've given 25 or more years of your life to telling some guy half your age to "fuck me hard baby!" and all that? I couldn't.
I also thought it was realistic that he waited almost six months before contacting his wife, given that he ran his own company, he could afford to do what he did. He tried to get over her actions, I believe he worked very hard at it, and may have done so if he'd not seen the tapes of her trysts, especially the last one.
We men are pretty easily hurt, ego wise, and for her to do this with a younger man probably added to his feelings of shame and inadequeacy. He might have been more forgiving if she'd had an affair with a man her own age but that is only speculation.
Thanks for writing thecelt. I hope you explore this truly touchy subject further in other stories.
You built the premise and followed through without a bunch
of BS. I liked it a lot.
I will read the ending again, as it has some good thought
processes. Much like RPsuch did in "Too Far". Sex vs Love
towards the end is well worth reading a second time.
"I love only you" - whew, that makes it all better. Or not.
If a spouse told me they loved only me, it was just sex with
her boyfriend I would also question what kind of love the spouse really had.
"If you take me back, I will spend the rest of my life making it up to you, to prove my love." HUH? Someone grab the BS flag and run it up the pole. If the spouse's love was such that it allowed them to cheat on you, why would you
want to spend any more time with them? Their love allows
for cheating, why try it again? DUH??
For a first submission, you did a super job. Congratulations on it...more, please....
Looks like Perley has reached his limit and who could possibly blame him.
She loves him more now than when they were married??? Did she really hate him when they married?
This woman needs counseling really badly. She has some screw loose.

Bullshit
If he were a better man he would walk away and never look back. I have loved and been loved and I know for a fact that only a weak man pretends that she is the love of his life that he can't live without. That is total bullshit.

Simply amazing
I've read this story, and the comments, several times. The story in an of itself is a powerful display of emotion and confusion, as told from the wife who took a long time to feel that she did something wrong. It succinctly describes how a wronged husband could act in a realistic matter. I found it to be a truly terrific story. I could feel the rage of the husband, and the remorse of the wife. I was a bit disappointed in "Revisiting," but that does not figure into this comment.
As to the comments posted by some of the others, I'd like to speak to that. Can a man and a woman truly be happy if "just sex" is a consideration? Sure! Marriages can take all forms. As long as both parties consent, and there are no surprises, then I wish them well. However, that was not the case here. Both parties agreed to the tenets of a traditional marriage. "Forsaking all others" plays a big part of that. Why? Because HE DID. Now, I don't know what others have experienced, but here we have a man that is faithful, forthright, and honest. He also owns his own business. Quite frankly, that paints a target on him for some women who like to go for a proven provided. I'm sure he has gotten propositioned from all sides. Well, I only know because it happened to me. I am not as old as Perly, but I have gone through it. Women have thrown themselves at me, and I have turned down their offers. I did so because I loved my wife. She could not say the same. She fell in with a coworker who she said made her feel "young and beautiful." I found out after the affair lasted for seven months. So, I just walked away from the marriage. I hear through my kids that she is unhappy all the time, and is seeing a therapist. Well, I did not put her in that situation, and I take no responsibility for it. I hear often from the kids and from mutual friends that she is desparate to get me back in her life. It's not going to happen. I simply cannot admit that it is fine for her to f**k whoever she wants in order to boost her flagging self-worth.
I'm aware that 30-40% of women who cheat on their significant others do so because of flattery or self-esteem issues. I just don't care. It is not an excuse. There is NO justification to destroy a trust built up over years of good times and bad times, because she wants to feel "magic" again.
Good Story
I enjoyed your story but not as much as your first one. Keep on writing. I look forward to your next one.

And your point in writing this didactic essay was? If you choose to tell the same story for the 100th time, is it still a story if you just change the names?
A brilliant Postmortem!!!
Good people
Nice story and I can live with the ending. And I think you must be "good people". Everyone who pisses old Donxxx off must be. Because he is one twisted puppy.

An excellent story
I thought it was great showing how the woman was affected. The pain of betrayal and the pain of loosing her life was clear and real. Thanks.
Excellent story, but...
He was too generous. Not only should he have pressed for harsher terms on the settlement, but he should have told the children why they divorced. That actions have consequences is a valuable lesson to impart to one's children.
Thanks again for this great read!

WHATS UP WITH THE WHORE'S IN THESE STORIES
They say that they love their husbands, yet they go and spread their legs like some two dollar whore's for another man or men. They love them so much that they lie, cheat, and break their husbands heart. Who the hell needs enemies when you have a cold, heartless whore for a wife. As for the story, well written and even better (in my opinion) since their were consequences.
Nice job!
This was a well conceived and well written story. Thanks.
Powerful
That is the only word that came to mind immediately after reading your work. Thank you.
Great Story
This is one of the best wife cheating stories I've read. Seemed so real. I wish I wrote it. Great work.

Realistic

Good one
Very good story.
A classic
One of the very best of this genre. A good illustration of the folly of adultery and how the perpertrator always seems to believe he or she won't get caught. Stories like this make Literotica such great entertainment.
GREAT GREAT STORY
6 times and he leaves... as he should of.
compare this story and plotline to HOUSE OF CARDS...
Pwely is Gay
Dump that bitch. Tom Lykis and I am disgusted. I would have pissed on her and thrown her thru th edoor. with my foot up her ass.
