A Double Standard 'Revisited'

Good ending.

I liked how this story played out. It is one correct ending that could have gone in several different directions, but I liked it. Although, I would have shot the wife first. what the hell, if you were going out might as well take her with you!

There was a guy in our town whose wife was sleeping with anyone and everyone. He would go to taverns and pull her off men even while they were screwing her. He really loved her. He finally blew his brains out. You wouldn't be surprised to know she never told her kids why even though everyone knew why. To my knowledge no one has ever told her kids why he probably really did it. Harry the poor dumb fucker in the story should have written and mailed a note to someone he could trust.

all the damages that was done, very hard to retreat from the harm. He should have gotten the names, and to know is painful, bit no more so?

I wasn't expecting this ending, the first part was an exploration into the justification of a man's affairs, and the aftermath of being exposed. But the second half was a bit of a depressing melodrama, it's a bit disjointed and the ending made me sad

Why not require that she inform all the wives of the men she screwed of what had happened, all occurances, as her punishment to keep their marriage viable? She humiliates herself and the bastards that fucked her. He has the high ground and can laugh. Then he can dump her (or not) when her actions equal his, in HIS estimation. As it is, she remains in control; she can lie and he can't do crap. After all, he is dead. He leaves weak, while he had the greatest strength. It doesn't play well.

what else could he do?

Think back to what Harry was most concerned about when he was confronted by his wife about his infidelity. He could not afford a divorce. Could not survive financially and he truely loved Miriam and did not want a life without her.

DG never explained why Harry had his gun when he left to confront Steve. Was he really willing to face jail time or did he want to scare Steve?

And then Harry slowly got the truth from Miriam, Steve, and Betty but only with help of his gun.

Then he realized Miriam made him butt of so called friends joke when she fucked them in secrecy.

He could not afford to divorce her but could no longer be around her.

In his confused mind he took the only path available.

I do not condone suicide, however I do believe DG showed how Harry felt it was his only choice.

I really liked the first part and actually discussed it with my wife but then the ending was some weird twisted stories that appeared to be done by a horney delussional 16 year old.Very disappointed.

I don't remember if I commented when I read this last year (or whenever) and I had forgotten you came back and gave us an ending. It was an appropriate ending if he hated his wife and Steve enough but it put their kids in the middle, they had to suffer because of their parents transgressions. But, as you said, it was the ultimate revenge, he paid a big price for many one night stands while they got by with shame and humiliation and his wife suffered the loss of his income. BUT THANK YOU FOR THE ENDING! It was a hell of an ending!

If Harry was contemplating suicide he should've fucked Betty then had Steve suck and clean his cock after doing Betty. Then when he was hard again make Steve submit to be ass fucked, then have Miriam lick and clean his cock fresh from Steve's ass. These two episodes have probably brought up many different emotions and reactions from the same readers. Even before the dialogue at the end got under way, my jumped-to conclusion, he is going to kill himself. There are other conditions, details, and circumstances these stories do not have opportunity to include to get us to the needed conclusions. Such as everyone's long/short term mental and emotional states, are they taking stabilizing drugs - did they go off of their regime accidentally and perhaps do things that would never have occurred to them? Many readers of these stories live in a fantasy world for differing lengths of time or intensity, including myself. Every once in a while though, when the knock comes and the door has been answered and the real monsters come home to roost. Now what? Let them(it) in and try to understand and work through the miasma of emotions? You'll have to discover your own responses for than one, my own are inconclusive at best.

Most readers like to be entertained and distracted for few minutes or hours. This allow some stuff of real life to get pushed aside and gets the reader through a few more seconds/minutes of existence. It doesn't alter the situation, like getting inebriated, life rushes back in with a vengeance once the stimulus has run its course.

But what do I know? I am just another one of the readers as well, with my own bags of history. Thank you so much for this and many other stories, please keep this great type of work going.

Very good ending? A man kills himself just for revenge and people think that is a good ending? That ending was ridiculous. I liked the story until that stupid ending. This guy leaves his kids without a father because he had some narcissistic need to martyr himself to show his cheating wife the error of her ways. This is of course after he is found out to have had so many one night stands that he lost count. I normally wouldn't say anything this mean, but the world is better off without assholes like this.

Why not kill the cheaters too? The kids and the sister would inherit the money, the assholes would be dead, and the husband will be out of his misery! The kids don't need parents like this around anyway!

How does his suicide solve anything? The remaining three are free to tell the police anything they want. They become the recipients of the previously mentioned CD's, 401K, insurance, etc. etc.

Double Standard?

:Leaving aside the ending for now, there was a HUGE difference between what he did and what his wife did.

Not to defend what he did, because it WAS wrong, but at least it didn't come back on her. SHE cheated with people they knew, who he had to deal with, who laughed at him behind his back.

While I certainly wouldn't have taken his action, I can sorta see the appeal in making them live with their guilt both in what they did and can no longer atone for and in what they drove him to do. Hopefully Betty will tell his kids why he did it so the can tell their mother to stay the fuck out of their lives.

Doesn't make sense

What we found out was that Harry and Miriam were both equally guilty of cheating on and lying to their spouses. They should have either divorced or just dropped all pretense of fidelity and declared an honestly open marriage.

He has a string of one night stands over a long period of time and doesn't use condoms for some. Not only did he directly threatened her health with STDs but he lied and/or omitted the truth for years while he is together with her instead of admitting his cheating and asking for forgiveness.

You could call the suicide the ultimate revenge ,she fucked most of his friends and they laughed at him ,now it's steve's,hers and betty's time to come clean with the police,family and friends about the whole mess ,they won't have a social life anymore beyond that and i can see a lot of divorces in the near future

At least he had one-night stands out of town, with people his wife was highly unlikely to know or meet.

She had an AFFAIR with his brother-in-law, and fucked his friends who he could never face again.

It's too bad he felt the need to end his own life, but it's only fair that she's going to have to try to explain it to the rest of the family. I certainly don't expect her to be honest, but maybe Betty will spill the beans!

An interesting story....

It's difficult to reach a decision as to who was the more despicable.... I found that it was hard to decide what is worse,.... random, unplanned, sexual encounters with various strangers who were never 'likely' to hurt or to be an embarrassment to his wife - or multiple sexual encounters with multiple friends and colleagues of the husband (taking into account the humiliation he must have felt when he found out about said 'friends and colleagues'), including a long time affair with his brother-in-law?
I'm not trying to exonerate the husband but he was away from home on his own whereas she was at home with her friends, children and family about her for company and support.

If I have to make a decision then (knowing what it's like to be away from home for extended periods) I'd have to score it (in boxing terms) 5 him to 14 her. Really though, the thing that did it for me was the fact that she suspected/knew that he was cheating and didn't talk to him about it and preferred to use that as an excuse to fuck around on him in a wholesale manner whilst assuming the superior, judgemental position, notwithstanding the fact that, in effect, she was also cheating on her own sister.

I'm not normally a BTB type person but instead of him killing himself I'd have gone for the 'scorched earth' policy as far as the wife was concerned. If, however, she robbed him blind in a divorce settlement...... then I'd have tended to go after her personally....

I like to read the comments...and every comment I read endorsed the whole double standard.
All of a sudden what he did was not HALF as bad as what she did. She should have been tarred and feathered as far as everyone is concerned.

This story failed, simply because it lacked ANY character the reader could like or sympathize with. All four cheated, all four were liars and all four failed to illicit any emotion from me besides contempt.
So, if your aim was to illicit the response of "Meh, who cares?", then well done, mission accomplished. If your aim was otherwise, then try again.
