So, Mark gave all his conditions (twice the time and all that) knowing Jenny had already been intimate with John and lied about it (which is even worse than her original ultimatum) - so why all this drama. In the immortal words of Risq it is "mental masturbation".
A wife of 20 years can throw such an "out-of-marriage-sex" ultimatum, and worse lie about it - and you portray the husband proudly accepting the double betrayal. This is a typical Matt Moreau plot, which is why I avoid his stories (though they are written well).

Is to stop her fucking John anyway? What's to stop her deciding to have her affair in secret? She is still seeing John at work everyday, and has already proven herself to be a liar, when she met him for lunch, and then denied that she was even there! She was so adamant at the start, that there is no way she will NOT do it. She just doesn't like the idea of her husband being with someone else. She never said that she realized it was wrong, but that the thought of her husband getting some hurt her. She may already be thinking up plan B. Meet at work, and tell no one.
The moment a spouse even suggests 'Trying someone else', the marriage is over, because it means that they have already given it serious thought, and have already thought of the pros and cons, already thought of possible consequences, and yet STILL come to the conclusion that they want it. It means that the idea of fucking someone else already outweighs their love for their partner!
As soon as they give their notion voice, it's already too late.
To those that keep repeating that 'She didn't cheat', just because she didn't fuck the guy, doesn't mean she didn't cheat. Wake up! If someone says that you 'cheat on an exam', does that mean you fucked another exam paper? When someone 'cheats on their taxes', does that mean they have sex with their money? Cheating has a broader meaning that physical intercourse. The whole idea that 'It's not cheating as long as no sex occurs', is obtuse. Cheating refers to, and always has done, putting another person before your partner in you heart, mind or life. It means breaking your vows 'To have no other before me'. Choosing someone else over your partner is cheating those vows. Otherwise people would say at the altar, 'I won't have sex with another person, but everything else is o.k.'
Yes, there are levels of cheating, some worse than others, some more forgivable than others, and sex is the big one, but to say she didn't cheat, simply because she didn't fuck the guy is wrong. Having a secret rendezvous, and then denying she was even there IS cheating. Deciding to have an affair IS cheating, even before it starts! It means that the other person already means more to them than the person they married.

Like the last guy said, cheating or infidelity isn't necessarily about sexual intercourse. Would be hard to get over, she sees him at work. Plenty of time at lunch or just after work or even calling in sick and meeting in a motel or whatever. Fidelity means being faithful. Faithful means being trustworthy, which covers lying, sneaking around and all that entails.

Then the bitch had her " one intimate encounter " with that asshole john. well Mark should have told the bitch the fact that if she did what she wanted to do and then did, she could just pack her belongings and move in with the fuckwad because the marriage was most definitely over. And let her chew on that bit of information and when she got home, I would have had her stuff all packed and ready to go. when she came home, I have zero tolerance for having the label of cuckold hung around my neck I would rather divorce her and then she could fuck good old John all she wanted. Fuck that shit that if I love her I could let her do it no way. Mark should have really went out and got himself some strange pussy and kept it up till she divorced him. That would have both made it impossible for the wife to cheat with him and at the same time have sent her the message that there are consequences to cheating and next time she got an urge she might join her intended in an eternal dirt nap. Granted my solution is not for everyone, but what the hell, it works fine for me, and it's just a story, right?

That she could even ask or tell him that she was going to cheat...I don't care what the reason is...shows how much respect she has for her husband. It always amazes me that after 20 yeas of marriage, she doesn't know her husband. And when she lied about the lunch? How could he ever trust her again. No, he should have asked her to wait until the divorce papers were served before she scratched her itch.
