Absolutely, YES! Forsaken unto ALL others. Not just other men. And going back after being caught the first time was just another nail in her coffin. Cut her loose. She'll just do it again once she finds out that there are no consequences.

This is a sad tale. This guy is an emotional cripple. His wife cheated on him. She got caught. He tried to get over it. He tried to have sex with her, and failed. She didn't try to help him. She went and fucked her girlfriend again, and almost got fucked by the other husband. He goes to jail and gets off by sheer luck. She has not proven her love, but her total lack of love after 22 years. He has to wake up and realize this. The fact that she continues to play him means that not only does she not love him, she is a shitty person. He has to realize this and stay away from her. His daughter needs to shun her too. This is a selfish, evil whore that given the chance will only bring more pain and suffering in the future. How does he know anything she says is true? This story has a terribly depressing ending. You do not have to stay with emotionally abusive people. At worst, you can live alone and still have a full life. At best, you can use your life experience to find a decent partner. This is as sad and as sick a tale as watching a woman go back the her wife beating husband. 1 fucking star.

Why would he believe the letter?

After being caught, she went ahead and cheated again. Being close to getting raped doesn't forgive the continued cheating. Also, I can't see a husband reading a letter and after asking one question, turning the relationship around and starting to believe her again.

She had to hide hide it from him. It doesn't pass the spouse test - 'If you can't do it in front of your spouse, you shouldn't be doing it'. She gets caught then goes right back to doing it again. This is cheating pure and simple. He should realize that he loves the old wife, not the woman she is now. He needs to follow his first instinct and dump her. It will not get better.

Forsake all others

It's a pretty standard promise in most wedding ceremonies. Most stop the interpretation at sex. But if you think about it, from a religious standpoint, if you aren't married you shouldn't be having sex anyway, so why is that promise even in the vows? I'll answer that in a minute.

First I need to say I'm not a religious man. I won't get into my specific beliefs because they aren't pertinent to the point. Just wanted to try and head off the "religious zealot" angle.

To forsake all others is a promise that you will put your partner (spouse) first. Not only will you give up sexual relations with other people, but the opinions and desires of the spouse are first in your mind and heart. If you know your spouse hates the color red, don't wear that red blouse that you love when you're with him. If you know she's never approved of heavy drinking (for what ever reason...maybe her dad was a violent or mean drunk...maybe a close friend died in a drunken car accident or from alcohol poisoning when she was in high school...whatever), don't go out and get shitfaced when you know you're coming home to her.

This gets more complicated when you don't know what your spouse thinks or feels. But this isn't a situation when "begging forgiveness is better than asking permission." Where there is more at stake than disappointment that we're having fish for dinner rather than rib eyes, when there's a potential for anger or a loss of trust and connection then you (in the spirit of forsaking all others) have to face a loss of opportunity and talk to your spouse. You say something like "I don't know where this is going, and I do like where it's headed, but I need to talk to my husband/wife before it goes any further because I don't know how they would feel about it and I won't do anything alone that I wouldn't do with them right next to me." When that conversation happens and the spouse says "that would be hot, go for it", then do. If all affected adults are aware of what is going on and consent to it, then in my mind it's not "cheating". If its a secret, it's wrong.

DG does good work. I can't say, because of my own situation (which has colored both the content I'm looking for as well as my comments when they're left) I can't say I enjoyed the story, but it strikes me as having a true to life feeling. ive known people over the years that make decisions based around "it's not REALLY that bad" and it always comes back to bite them in the ass, and this rendering was well told. I think it could have been a bit longer. Perhaps a prime example of when a "his perspective : her perspective" could have been employed so I got more an idea of what was going through her mind as the story unfolded. Maybe in reading her thoughts and envisioning how she was manipulated into the situation makes it "easier" for the reader to accept the reconciliation (And to DG - I think this is where you lost some of the readers. Not saying there is no place for reconciliation, but her putting her husband further down the list of value and importance as frequently as she did for as long as she did and the timing of at least some of it I think makes the recon pill tough to swallow). Or...maybe not.

Well done DG! I look forward to more of your offerings and perhaps (someday when I get the rest of my so called life in order) some of those stories that aren't "LW".

Kind of an awkward story,with a tentative approach to dealing with a 22 years of marriage. I don't know,it just didn't have a "feeling" flow to it. My fault,I suppose,comparing it to a number of your other excellent stories.

As others have said, 'once a cheater', at the very least he should have punished her a bit for her betrayal to lower the risk that she would do such a thing again.
He had to suffer the pain of seeing her have sex with another person in front of him more than once, returning that pain in some form would be fitting.

After her repeated betrayal, and even though she might have forced the charges to be dropped, I wonder why he wasn't the slightest bit skeptical of her assertion she hadn't done anything with Roger, and her saying that she didn't even know that he was there.

He was right in the beginning...

He was right. She lied over and over, what's there to say she wasn't lying at the end? She was thinking of her when he tried again after finding out; she said it wasn't cheating; she didn't stop even though she claimed to love him. It was a step to more just as he predicted; we only have her word (the word of a liar) when she said it was going to be rape. Hell she even figured the charges wouldn't stick, and oh yeah, she didn't stop even after he explained how hurt and betrayed he was. If she truly believed it wasn't cheating then why did she keep it a secret? Easy answer, because she knew it was cheating.

Wash your hands and move on. It sucks, but you can't trust her again even if she says you can. What's to stop her in the future? Nothing.
