A Real Lesson

Usually these morality plays are stilted, but you did an excellent story here.

Thankyou

Was there a story somewhere here?

Switching from third person to We to disinterested observer tied to a collection of ideas that wandered around broke any type of thought pattern or interest. This seems more like a collection of ideas for various stories almost connected. I wondered why Mike would get ripped in a no fault divorce state when his wife had a baby by one of three men, none of which were interested in parenting or responsibility. Your end comments seem more like what you want for reader critique then a part of the story. Why Leslie would or should think Mike would foot the bill for her 3 boyfriends and any of their offspring while telling him he was useful only for money and as a father to raise someone elses children is a little farfetched.

A word of caution

That was a clever story and a timely moral at the end. It was apropos without being to preachy. Well done.

A certainty

I've often wondered what these 'swingers' tell their spouses about their lovers. Maybe too much and is the reason the average swinger marriage is 7 years.

Intersting story, Charley.

What's the fantasy?

"No woman would actually compare her husband to her lovers. She would never think it or say it. She wouldn't think or say those things especially while she was making love with her husband. She would of course never change how she felt about her own sexuality or how well her husband was performing. She could fuck anyone she wanted to fuck and not be affected in any way or have her marriage affected either."
This is sarcasm, right? Because all of those things can and do happen.
"And of course no man would ever be intimidated by the fact that his wife was fucking other men. He would always be so secure that even if she were willingly gang banged by five or six guys she would come home to him and receive just as much sexual pleasure and stimulation from him. He would never have to worry that he couldn't measure up."
Ditto. Can and do happen. Just what is the fairy story and what is reality here?
"And of course we all know there are no Teri's out there. No other person in the world who would be willing to give their all to a relationship. Certainly there is no one out there who would forsake all others to be the one and only love for you. Such love just doesn't exist."
It may be rare, but it can and has happened for some lucky people.

I liked the story overall, but your comments at the end are confusing and just plain wrong. You are making sweeping generalities that just don't hold.

marriage is constantly revisable

There are some good ideas here and it could have been a good story if told as a story, probably at least 3 times as long.

I disagree with one of the concepts you espoused near the end. The "vows" in a marriage ceremony may not have anything to do with the marriage. They were written by somebody else with a social/religious/political agenda. The two people involved in the marriage make their own rules as to what is acceptable behavior. They decide between themselves how often and what kinds of sex they will have, with disagreements going to the most restrictive. They decide how much spending money they'll allow each other and whether to make major purchases or not, unless they decide that one of them has all or veto power. They'll decide whether they will have kids, when and how many. And at any time, they can mutually change their minds. We're spending too much, $100 each pocket change per week is too much, let's take it down to $30.

Whatever works for them, as long as it does not harm outside people, is their own business and their privilege to agree upon. They could not, for example, decide to make the monthly mortgage by robbing their neighbors - that harms outside people.

If they agree that they are comfortable having sexual contacts with other people, that's their right. It's also modifiable. That's where they messed up here. The husband should have stepped in and said he was no longer comfortable with the agreement and permission is revoked until such time as an arrangement can be worked out that is acceptable to both. If she sees any of her healthcare providers after that, she's cheating. Both of them blew the communication. When she talked pregnancy, he ASKED if she was going to continue with the 3 men. He didn't say he wanted it to be his. She should have recognized that was what he was trying to say, but that doesn't absolve him from failing to tell her how he felt. It may have been too late by then because she had actually violated the agreement. It had changed how they started to feel about each other. It changed her as well as him. She now thought about everything only in terms of how it affected her. They give her pleasure, he gives her security. It didn't occur to her that he got almost nothing from this deal. If you're going to be involved in this kind of relationship, you need constant feedback, communication, to make sure that what you're doing is working for everybody and the relationship.

Don87654 is right in that married people don't own each other's bodies and their human ability to decide what they are going to do with them. But the marriage agreement between the parties does set limits. If you violate the agreement, you may be exercising your right to use your body as you wish, but you partner is under no obligation to stay married to you. If you get your nose pierced and your partner finds it sufficiently repugnant that they no longer wish to engage in sex with you, you may either have to take it out, or get a divorce, unless you both agree that never having sex again is acceptable and your partner never has to look at you again.

We are in charge of what is acceptable in each of our marriages/relationships and with the widespread availability of no-fault divorce, we can get those agreements enforced, even for such things as nose piercings.

Vows are VOWS!

If you think the marriage vows are wrong or not up to date or whatever, don't take the vows.

No matter how you want to spin the marriage union, a marriage wont't last or remain strong with multiple sex partners involved. I don't give a fuck what your "MODERN" interpretation of husband and wife is.

Call me a little dicked wanker or whatever the hell your little minds may contrive but I'll tell you one thing, I have been given the chance to deliver a couple of "I told you so's" to so called open minded, open marriage type people. Sounds like the author has too.

Good write.

I'll take Teri every time

I'm just a college kid, but not long ago I visited with a very old man... I think he was close to 50. He said something that I've been thinking about, and it touches on your story. He said that when he was my age it was during the free love 70s and took part in orgies frequently. He said that at the time he thought sex couldn't get any better. Looking back he said it was still about the best sex he ever had, but that as much as he remembers the times fondly, he wishes he hadn't done it.

I'm not sure I understand why. I think your story touches on some of it, and I hope you'll explore the topic some more.

A really good story, with a good conclusion

I did read some of the negative comments, but I can't say that agree with 'em (^_^)

I will have to say that the comment about "Because a woman can be pregnant by any man other than their husband she should be able to" does kinda disturb me. I'll pass on the racist comment before that for the sake of keeping peace, but what amazes me to no end is the folks that think that because they are willing to allow their wife (or husband) to do this (have relationships outside of a marriage) that they are "Liberating" their mate to enjoy life. What about the kids? If the husband is fathering kids with another women other than their wives, and something genetic comes up that neither the husband or the wife has and the doctor(s) need a family history, they usually have to get with the other person to find these things out. Usually the kids have to be told. Or some times these "Liberated" people sometimes have to tell their kids what they've been doing for the sake of liberation. Not all these kids take what their parents are doing all that well once they find out that their dad isn't the person that fathered them, and usually resent one or both parents.

Not to mention those folks can't tell me that they won't wonder sometimes if the other person isn't a better lover than they are or if sometimes the wife (or husband) isn't thinking about what they can do that the mate can't. And if they say they won't care, and actually do mean it, what does that say about how they see their personal self worth? I think thats why this story hit more nerves than it normally would have (^_^)

But I may reference your story from time to time. This story for me seems to be the reality "norm", more than the exception with the folks I personally know that seem to think that marriage is a "New" type of contract that can have any rules that people want to throw into it. Most often those marriages almost always ended in a divorce at some point in the marriage. There is only one that I know of that is still going on, but for some reason I doubt it will go on beyond 5 years.

But reagardless it was a Good story

Loved It!

The writing could have been a little smoother but it is SOOO nice to see someone say something true on here. There are too many stories that are just a bunch of crap filled with lies, beatings, rapes, cheating etc. As if they are good and moral things that are normal. No matter how many times they get written about being normal they are not. (And if you're sitting there asking "what is normal" the answer is "What most people do, and you may not.")

It takes away from our own sense of well being and morality everytime we are told that marriages are better when everyone gets to be as self centered as they want and do whatever they want.

What the heck is the point of being married then?

If you want variety then don't get married.

I'm glad taht someone had the guts to tell the truth.

Present tense?

This was poorly written and difficult to read. Present tense for an ongoing story that slid into the past, simply because it must. Present tense doesn't last for years at a clip, or at least not easily! Sorry.

A troubled Response

The overall concept was excellent, charleybear. But it read kind of like an outline of a planned longer work. I understand that was your intent, but it would have worked better - for me - if you had fleshed out the story. With all the plot you had to work with, this could have been 4 or 5 chapters of sex and angst.

One other thing: Don87654 is a racist, bigoted, sick, motherfucking asshole! But then, that is just my unbiased opinion.

You said it all!

No mater how many centuries and accepted lifestyles come and go the bond between two people who feel like the world would end without the other beside them, and part of them is what love is. The longer they fight to keep what they have the stronger it gets. It all comes down to putting everything in your being to making that other person first in all things.

We are humans and we fail. We are humans and we can forgive or we can destroy. What we do is never simple and we will never ever forget those decisions we make in regards to someone we truly love. Those decisions will be out front in our minds, no matter the outcome, forever.
Think about the things that pass between people you like. There is a memory, but its not earth shattering just a fondness or a regretted of something that happened.

I enjoy different types of story groups and one is reading Loving Wives stories to see the humanity of consequences and what people can and can’t put themselves through and live with.

I like reading your stories. Whenever I see your name I read the story, as I know I will be entertained with some first-rate writing in a genre that interest me. I don’t judge on English Composition, that’s for the more erudite then I, just the story.
Please keep your stories coming as you strive to bring us something diverse.

A good parody!

That was one guised parody! But the unveiling was just one added bonus to the overall fun I had when I read the Hamm…fable. The conclusion starts with a thinly veiled pretense of listing the “real life standards” in married life. Pretense – because it goes on, and lists the most annoying qualities in the most formulaic stories in the “Loving Wives” section: mythological serial cheater wives who come back to their husbands unaffected and unchanged ; super natural husbands who could never be intimidated by any other man ; and to top it all, a tongue in chick “acknowledgement” of the seemingly prevailing norm in the real “fairy tale”(which is the formulaic universe of “Loving Wives” stories)- that is- that no marriage is simply made for dedicated monogamous relations. Tssst…what an absurd! BTW: obviously not all Loving Wives stories are formulaic and those which are may not be so to the same extent.
As if to make sure that no reader would misunderstand him, the last two paragraphs spell out the true conclusion with equal parts of frustration and eagerness to let us all finally get it (maybe charleybear is mostly aiming at those of the writers who can’t seem to get it).
I found only one flaw in the main story line. Wouldn’t a couple which love and care but most importantly - communicates so well with each other, be more likely to not get into this kind of mess to begin with? Or at least find a way out of it sooner rather than later? Oh well, I can see the aesthetic need to contrast the good marriage at the beginning with the fall at the end. Thank you for this fun and… cathartic read.

Editing

Thought provoking point ruined by careless writing. Why is staying in tense so hard for so many writers? You can't start a story in the present saying 'Mike and Leslie HAVE been married for 6 years' then write a pregnancy, birth, divorce and remarriage. And all throughout the story change between 'she IS getting alot' and 'Mike WAS getting angry'; 'Leslie TELLS Mike' and 'Mike TOLD her', etc.

I also don't know who you are directing this morality tale to, and why you feel the need to preach about the pitfalls of a situation that is patently ridiculous. Do you think there are millions of people out there who need your sagely wisdom to know that having multiple partners in a marriage is not ideal? I just don't see what lesson can possibly be ;earned by having characters act in unrealistic ways, then having them suffer. Tragedy is when real people (or at least realistic characters) suffer the consequences of their poor choices. Since I doubt there are more than 3 men on the planet who would go along with a plan of 'it doesn't matter who the father is, you'll take care of his baby', you're not addressing a plausible scenario.

I have enjoyed some of your other stories; this one should have stayed in the 'rough draft' folder.

Preach to yourself.

I don't read erotic fiction to get a sermon on the sanctity of marriage. I prefer to run my own life without your help. If you enjoy preaching so much, you should be spending your time in church. Maybe you feel guilty reading about other people fucking, getting arroused by it, and then jacking yourself off. If you do, go to church but don't try preaching to me. You are no more moral than anyone else.

I think I get it.......

OK, How many times have we heard someone say it isn't cheating if both parties agree to it? I have said it myself. Wow, I really thought it was true back then.

Sooooooo if she told hubby she wanted three other guys, this
story shows us it CAN still ruin the relationship. Even if you are NOT cheating, going outside your marriage can ruin
it. NO??

Rats, I get emotional and get tongue tied. I hope I said it
right...just because you and your significant other (wife in
my case) SAY it is ok, your inner being (soul? Conscienence?
whatever?) may not accept it?

Come on, we have several writers who can summarize it better
than I did, but relationships are not only destroyed by lies
but by actions.

Oh hell, someone take over.....

The Perfect Anti-Reconciliation Story!

Most cheating spouse stories turn into reconciliation stories where no matter how much abuse, disrespect and stupidity the cheating spouse is taken back. I love a happy ending but these stories bend, fold and mutilate reality. Usually the faithful spouse is smart, an excellent lover, loving parent and successful.

At the end of the story the faithful spouse finds some reason to take the cheating spouse back and they live happy ever after. The problem is given human nature in general if you reward someone for cheating they will cheat again. If the succssful faithful spouse become available there is a host of "replacement" spouses who come out of the woodwork (ex-lovers, business associates, neighbors etc) so why should he or she continue to live in a failed relationship? Will there be instances where couples will get back together? Yes -Of course! But the level of abuse reduces the likelihood of reconciliation.

I loved your story (although it reads more like an essay) because this couple thought that they can share the most intimate parts of themselves and it would not affect their relationship. Although it was a fantasy (because where would you find people like this?) it played out likely outcomes for the attitude "it just sex" found in many cheating spouse stories.

Thanks for writing.

Very Good ! ! !

Although this was fiction, it was cheating. Spouses that agree that one of them is going to have different person is cheating. They are cheating on their marriage vows, the people that witnessed the couple taking the vows and they are cheating on themself as well as their spouse. Most of all, they are humilliating their spouse and a marriage cannot survive without trust, love and compassion for each other.
In this story, why did she not want to have a baby by her husband? She had the forsight to tell her husband that he would make a good daddy, provider and babysitter, so why couldn't he be the father?

Cheating is Cheating if it be for love, sex or wanting to have a baby.

KUDO's for the Gutsy Plot Of Reality

Author - your work, premises, and efforts are greatly appreciated.

Some times a reportish type story can get a viewpoint accross more clearly than a all encompassing story - the inherent problem is that it can be interpreted by some as preaching or a moral message.

But it is really about the ever present right and wrong indicator gage in everyones mind! The Conscience!

How can it be a moral issue when the basic act is same one between two people - being married doesn't make the physical act different does it?

It is a right or wrong issue, where the conscience switch (when on) says ok or not!

The illustration of swinging or extracurricular lovers within a marriage issue used here depicts a infrequent reality that always causes consequence. Those who wish commitment marry. Changing horses mid-stream nullifies the contractual regidity both parties agreed upon initially. Why did they do that to themselves? Why did they want and agree to the unalterable regidity of the marital agreement.

Because it is only when people don't care that they are not offended by the selfish non-caring actions of others. Put another way - whether you are 21 or 69 when you risk your personal health and welfare, family status and financial position now and forever more - it is the biggest gamble / chance two people will ever take together.

So, when people care and risk this much they want some guaranty for their investment - hence the marital contract - which most people never really have thought about after a short time into married life. Unfortunately other lessor important things become more important.

A step further is that a contract is a contract is a contract, etc. Parties agree to the conditions set forth legally. A marital contract isn't much different than a business contract. So, to be clear - unless written and agreed upon modifications to the original cantract are signed and noterized. Verbal, or I thought you said and meant x, but now you say z - means the original contract is still binding upon the parties. No ands, ifs or buts period.

Honor, trust and respect are all very important elements in a contract and a relationship. To bruise or cause injury to those building block elements can destroy either the contract or relationship.

An illegal ammendment to a legal contract isn't binding nor consciencable to the elements of honor, trust and respect.

Author - an excellant "What Not To Do" for people in consideration of marriage or in marriage.

Thanks again - With High Regard

by Anonymous01/15/06

yes, "logics" got me, too!

the premises were that they were deeply in love; they trusted and love each other completely; they were very happy and satisfied with each other; that they were each other's best friend,,,

the conclusion?:

she needs to have multiple sexual partners to satisfy her urges; he's okay with it, she's okay with it, whether she use protection or not, whether she's pregnant or not or by whom, both she and he say "that's okay!"

but it is not jsut that, is it? it is also that he REFLECTS upon those acts of his beloved (who says to him: I love you so much and you love me so much, it don't matter how many other men I fuck daily, or even if I get pregnant by any of them, YOU will take care of the baby as if it's your own, because you and I love each other completely) and decides that his FIRST assumption about their being completely satisfied with each other, their being each other's best friend, etc. ad nauseam,,,, that such initial beliefs were idiotic nonsense,,,

that he could not, would not, live with someone like that woman: why not? because there's another person, another woman, who will errr shall we say "invest" her love, faith, trust, and life on him and him alone

hence, EITHER the (original) premises were true or they were not. If they were, the conclusion is obviously not true. But if the conclusion is true, the premises were nonsense.

of course, yes, we noted Charlie's qualifying notes,,, we are merely discussing the STORY as a pice of err art,,,

Self Centered and selfish

So much of this story is true, maybe to the extreme. When Leslie goes off on her own it is her downfall. Her "freedom' shows her selfish, self centered,me,me,me basic traits. She should have gotton Mike into a swinging lifestyle if she wahted (not needed) more cock. Yes there are many a Teri out there, who will love a man even if he is married. Great story. That deserves a score of 50 for realism .
