The Bit About Jacob Have to Drop Out From Cornell is Ridiculous

I'm wondering why the author needed to use that detail in the story, Jacob's parents is still complete (as evidenced on the phone conversation in the end). Why would he'd be needed at home? Even if it's absolutely imperative that he helps at home, why should he drop out? There's no further explanation about it. He can take a leave from college. If it's explained that his parent doesn't have enough fund after his mother illness, then at least there's a logical explanation about why he didn't come back to Cornell.

If the drop out is used just as a justification for Jacob and Thuy not seeing each other frequently, then the detail has just become more ridiculous. New Haven, Connecticut (Yale) and Ithaca, New York (Cornell) is separated over 200 miles from each other. The distance alone should inhibit physical meeting. Other than that damning bit, good story, 80/100 from me.

This is as fine a story about two young folks discovering/admitting how they felt about each other as I've ever read.. All of that was almost as good as the sex. I grew up with a girl a little younger than me living just down the street. We were "Best Friends" and we fooled around a little bit also, even tho that didn't come until we were on 12-13. Who knows how things would have turned out if ny family hadn't had to move. I hated leaving. I still think about her from time to time, wondering how she is, hoping she's having a good life. Whoever she married was/is a lucky guy..
