Re-Reading
"She had made no effort to deny anything and she told me as soon as she knew that I had found out." - Well, whoop-de-do! There was nothing to deny, and telling him AFTER he found out is meaningless!
As KarenE said, a polygraph test is a MUST, and it's still AWFULLY convenient to cry rape after 13 years with the accused long gone!
And in those few months before Ted left he never showed that "I fucked your wife" smirk?
And Ted fucks her ONE night and knocks her up? Not very likely
Questions
1. Why didn't Janet call the cops and charge Ted with rape?
2. Why did she not tell her husband, the one man who would most likely believe her? Her excuse to Mike was so self serving, anyone would question her veracity.
3. What about a morning after pill?
4. Why did she not get an abortion, just the chance she was carrying Ted's child would be enough for most honest people.
5. Why didn't she get a paternity test as soon as possible? Ted owes 13 years of child support now.
6. Why did she continue to lie to her husband (by omission) for 13 years?
Most Importantly, WHY in the hell would he believe anything the cheating slut said after 13 years?
Just Some Questions
IF...
If this is really a true story then I submit there is a WILLING CUCKOLD raising another man's twin girls.
Just My Opinion, YMMV
Morgan DeWolfe
Cute little hook at the end.
Predictable, except for the uncertainty he had about his son. But that was resolved nicely.
Lacking in depth
And by that I mean that the reader is thrust into a situation where you get no background and the story, while well told, doesn't attach you to any of the characters. BUT, in defense and f the author, it's possible that they either didn't have the background or the permission to tell the rest of the story and wanted to keep it nonfiction.
Whatever the reason, I felt I would have enjoyed (if you can use that term for such an inflammatory and unsettling a subject as "loving wives"...) the story more if I'd "been there" during the troubles they were having that led to the rape. It was all I could do in my comment not to put rape in quotes as I have a hard time believing her version (it was said in the story itself: trust but verify) but it's hard to make light of something as serious as rape. It does have to be acknowledged however that there does seem to be an awful lot of "buyer's remorse" where sex is concerned and crying wolf. Makes you wonder exactly how unscrupulous the human race really is.
