These Aren't Endings

To describe effort 1 as a happy ending is absurd. Their marriage can never recover totally while the child is there to remind them of her betrayal.

Effort 2 is much cleaner. She cheated-he left. Not unusual; the anger and misery is short-lived and he can get on with his life.

It is interesting to consider a reverse case. A happy marriage with complete love and trust. Then the husband comes home one day carrying a baby. He explains that it was conceived when he was drunk one night. He tells his wife that she is going to raise the child as her own. Happy ending? You jest!

I hate multiple endings.

Of course, loving happy endings, I chose the first ending. I am usually of the BTB section but this was a different situation than usual. I think it is very important that he be a good father to Penny and he will get over his wife's mistake and I think that is just what it was, a mistake.

good story

I don't like multi endings, the writer should be the one that fits his or her mind set for the story. I like happy endings because there isn't many in real life. I didn't read the 2nd ending, as I felt the first one was close to the characters in the story. I do have a general question though, how soon after birth, does little girl need to wrap her father around her finger?

Suck it up or "live with your hate and bitterness and be no part of her life"? What? Only two choices? Fuck this crazy shit! Here is choice #3: You divorce her and use the DNA results to get out of child support. You track Harry down and fuck his life up to balance the scales. Then when you are free and clear of the shitheads, you start your life over a little older and a little wiser! As far as his feelings for Penny were concerned, they would only die a little every time he looked at her and felt the claws of the trap his slut wife had dropped him in! The fucking bitch knew she had unprotected sex with another man, when she turned up pregnant she should have had an abortion, if she wanted to be sure she wouldn't destroy her marriage. To a slut like this an abortion is nothing. She is a callous bitch.

2* for the two endings...

The story was good, until the writer ruinned it with the two endings...More the second ending was totally out of context of his feelings and his way to think through all the story...Since the beginning of the story he let us know cleary that she was his child...So why in hell the second ending showed?

Multiple baloney is what it is.

I understand putting two endings to this story as it could go both ways. It would depend on the man and the woman. Maybe some professional help. But none of them seemed to take into account what was best for the baby. At some point she needs to know who her biological father is for medical reasons. Maybe it never comes into play, but the fact that it might means she has to be told. The question of whether you tell her when she's young or wait until she's twenty one or older is another moral dilemma. I'm sure lots of people want to burn the bitch to the ground. But with a woman you love and a baby you adore perhaps the best thing for him would have been to put it behind him and move forward with Mother and child. Who knows? Time would tell but this is a fictional story. No use getting all cranked up about it. Thanks for the story.

good story

I like ending number one but ending number 2 is not good for me

I read this story once before and made a lengthy comment (for me).

I will add this: I had forgotten the story and thought to myself that he should never open the envelope and just save it if she strayed. And I still don't like multiple endings and didn't even read the second ending, the first one was what I would have picked. There was a thought that my wife had cheated many years ago, no real evidence and I didn't even hear of it until about six months ago. I have never mentioned it, it was a long time ago and makes no difference now. After all, I have cheated multiple times (once she knows about and forgave me) so I had no standing to ask about it.

Ending #2 ruined it - sorry

Ending #2 was not only utterly unnecessary, it was completely inconsistent with his actions & feelings up to that point. Why include it just to keep the mindless BTB crowd happy???

I think that like with the Small Indiscretion, it is one of those things.....

....where sometimes, you really need to put aside the feelings of pain, rage, etc. and think of what matters more. Did Page fuck up royally? Sure. Twice, in fact. First, by cheating. Then by lying. One might even argue that she was a bit of a hypocrite for getting angry over a possible affair, but that's not unusual for a cheater, to project their infidelity onto their partner.

Even so, ending one resonated with me a lot more. I would have some pain, some issues to work out, some anger, etc. I would have to confront Page about her hypocrisy, her lies, and her infidelity. Make her see how wrong that was. But in the end, I would forgive that time and I would raise little Penny as my own. Still, at some point, Harry does need to know. Just put it to him in a way that makes it clear that at most he can be an uncle to her....in time, Penny could learn the truth, but only as it affects her medical history and things like that....and decide if she wants to get to know her birth father.

Hypocrisy

I'm not going to say which way I think he should choose, unlike the many hypocrites that commented. I'll just say that in every case, it should be HIS choice, and he should be free to make either choice, without judgement!
How many of the hypocrites that say "He MUST stay, because every child needs a father!", are raising another man's child? How many of you got to make that choice yourself? None? How do you sleep at night? Knowing that there are orphans out there, homeless ones to boot? How many orphans and fatherless children live under YOUR roof? Or are you hypocrites, like Bono, from U2? Experts in telling everyone else how to live their lives, telling people what they SHOUD do, so long as YOU don't have to!
Yes, a child should have a father. Why does it have to be the cheated husband? Why should HE "Suck it up" and raise the child? Why shouldn't it's mother "Suck it up", and raise the child with it REAL father? Because she doesn't like him? Too bad. If he was good enough to cheat with, and good enough to get pregnant by, then why should SHE not have to deal with the consequences of her CHOICES, and live with someone she doesn't like? After all, her baby deserves a father! Why should she get everything her way? Why is the victim of cheating the only one that never gets a say? Or, if they DO make a choice, why is the victim is the one that is painted as evil?
So many of you say that you are a 'sucker for a happy ending'. What's your definition of happy? That the cheater gets to fuck around, without consequence, then have the victim pay the monetary and emotional cost? You've got very strange notions of hapiness! So, your ideal world involves cheaters being allowed to do as they wish, pay no price, and have a slave/spouse back home to tend the mundane chores, like raising your lover's kids? That's your happy ending? Know what that makes you? A cheater in waiting!

Addendum re. happy endings

Why do people view it as a 'happy ending' only if the cheater pays NO price, only if the cheated spouse stays, only if the cheated spouse is NEVER allowed to mention it again, and completely acquiesces to the cheaters wants and needs, with no thought to their own? Don't any of you realize the sad truth? When someone cheats, there are NO happy endings! Either the cheater gets the best of both worlds, where they had their fun, at the expense of their spouse, and gets to move on when THEY want, where all their selfish needs are met, or NO ONE gets a happy ending! Either the cheater gets what they want, regardless of emotional cost, or the victim gets closure and gets to move on, but either way, the victim is always the one to pay!

God did not give the infidelity and betrayal, Page did. Penny will suffer for Page's hubris, which is a shame. Page won't suffer in the least because she has no real remorse... just excuses. And reading her whine about losing Harry as a friend really iced it.

that said this was a good story. a one time mistake when she is drunk is no reason to end your family. yes she shouldve told you, yes it sucks that your little girl isnt really yours. but this was a one time thing. that said, make her sign a very harsh post-nup agreement. if she ever cheats again she walks away with nothing and has to pay you alimony. plus tell her you get a free pass for in the future if you ever make a mistake.hell you can do what all women do. you can bring this up for years to win arguments.

One of the previous comments was that he didn't believe it was a one time thing. How stupid is that. It's not real fella. It's a made up story. What happens is what the author says happens.

And that brings up a second piece of stupidity. A really good story pulls a reader in. He's asking what happens next. When the author says to the reader, "I don't know. It's up to you." he stops being the author and the reader is pulled out of the story.

That's something no good author desires. If a reader wanted that he'd write his own story.

1 star for not choosing an ending

You might still have gottone less when you chose the wimp way out, but offering us the choice? That's your job....

Several points seem appropriate.

I have never known a woman who got pregnant who couldn't tell you almost to the minute when it "took". So her "thinking" it was hubby's was bullshit. She knew whose it was and just hoped that hubby wouldn't figure it out. Why else would a driven and self absorbed "climber" quit her career to stay with the baby and her husband. And to those who stated that hubby was obviously shooting blanks, well, stress can keep a woman from getting pregnant. Nature's way of protecting the fetus. So, hubby wasn't necessarily sterile, wife was just too damn busy being busy to get pregnant. So she was high from a good job and drunk on self congratulation with a man she spent more time with than she did her husband, who she was more relaxed around and who took advantage of their closeness to fuck her while she was relaxed and not stressed at all. Was it only once, have to take the author's word for that but as he let the story come out through the whore and the cameraman, who really knows. But her being so relaxed and calm, could have been just what it took to get pregnant. Sad that she couldn't share that part of her life with her husband. He was evidently never a part of, let alone a thought in her mind while she was her on air persona. As for leaving the baby. Well, the easiest thing in the world to do is love a baby, not matter where the sperm came from but the hardest thing to do would be to trust the receptacle of that sperm since she didn't seem to have any problem at all hiding her other "life" from her husband. Cheating and acting single is all fun and games until someone has to die. Right?

So very well written, I didn't care how many endings you had for it, wasn't a good ending for the husband either way. But I beg to differ that he would have chosen not to have love with the second one. He would have just chosen not to have love with someone who found it acceptable to have a completely separate life from him and then get pregnant.

Neither ending is a happy one. If he stays both he and the cheater will know that the child isn't his and was conceived through lust and adultery. Second choice has him leaving the love of his life because he could never look at her and the baby knowing they are not truly his. A conundrum but the logical answer is to leave and start over. Just my opinion.

He chooses walking out of their life instead of turning a blind eye to her being a cheating skank and he being a cuckold raising someone else's child.

However, being a young good looking and desirable man he dates and finds a different woman who he falls in love with. The new love of his life, through her actions shows him she loves him completely and that he can rest assured that he is with out a doubt the biological father to all their happy children.

Then the whole family lives happily ever after while the ex-skank gets to fight through the hells of single motherhood because Palmer disappears.

Creepy analogies in the comments

This story was a slam dunk quintessential case of divorce. The bastards child was not a gift to them but a product of unprotected sex by adulterers. Why blame the victim in this charade of a marriage gone south. The husband reacted to a situation he had thrown into his lap. I don't like unhappy endings and for that reason I gave this story an extremely low rating. Thank you for your effort but more care by the author in handling the husband was necessary for my tastes.

Read it again

I forgot the ending of this story and I still find it irritating. My conclusion to all cheating spouse stories real or imagined is that there is no way the marriage was "good" before the cheating took place. Why do I say that? For selfish reasons: when you are in a good marriage you have way too much to lose to risk cheating. It is simply not worth it. A marriage is most often years of investment of time, money, mental energy and hopefully love. To through that away for some cock or come pussy is stupid. In the case where one "falls in love" with another person, that is a sign the marriage sucked to start with. Look, if someone cheats on you, they don't love you. It is that simple. If they try to pawn off a bastard on you, not only do they not love you, they don't like or respect you! In this case, this dumb slut should have known there was a chance the child was not her husband's child. She should have told him, or gotten an abortion. (I don't really think a cheating slut would have any qualms over killing her child, after all she was willing to kill her husbands love) In any case, she created the problem and should have shown him a little courtesy instead of lies.

The questions not asked.

The heart of Jonathan's dilemma is whether or not he can ever trust Page enough to make the marriage work. He needs to hear from her (1) why she didn't tell him until he forced her; and (2) what she will do to make sure this doesn't happen again with someone else. She and Harry both see the cheating as unfortunate but inevitable ("it just happened"); if she continues to think that way, she will cheat again next time the circumstances are right.

The Devil Inside ending bothered me. This last sentence didn't fit; "I chose anger and emptiness over love." He chose emptiness and sanity over love and lies.

good story

I really liked it. I think the hubby was right in trying to make the marriage work. When Authors make 2 different endings, I don't normally read the second one, because that is an afterthought, in an attempt to please everyone, and normally turns people off to the whole story. Normally the first thought is the more right for the mental attitude. Write it as you feel it, not what others might want to read.

It's not like she was trying to cheat, or taking a lover on the side for her own enjoyment. The fact that she never told her husband, never went back to work, and her paramour was leaving town, said a lot about the honesty of the situation.

What an ass. I have no respect for an author who writes alternate endings to a story and indicates strongly that he doesn't like one. Don't write it then. You are a reconciliation whore. Unless there is a reconciliation, no matter how egregious the cheating spouses conduct, you believe the story is bad. Grow up. Try writing something with a bit of reality sometime.
