Thanks Author - for making the consequence fit the disrespect. As a once loving husband he had the right to feel as he did. He had the right to respond to her disrespect of him and their marital commitment in the way he did.
In total it was a touch of reality given the long term aspect and number of times she had selfishly cuckolded him without conscience or concern for their long term relationship and legal commitments to each other.
Unlike some writers, you didn't try to unrealisticaly bend this and shape it into his fault or a reconciliation that made no sense given the grievous nature of her planned and intended repetitive offenses. For that - for keeping it somewhat true to life's possibilities - thanks for your realism Author.
There is another thank you that needs to be noted for others. You know that you are not a wordsmith like some but you are clear and precise. Your style fits you and you come accross realistically - your viewpoint as a reflection of life is common to most of us and is greatly appreciated. This is a superior read.The author allows us entry into the nightmare that this man is experiencing.We can feel the emotional damage that has unhinged his world.There is no way to salvage this marriage because there can never be that foundation of TRUST that good marriages are built on.I know that,recently, Capecodmercury espoused the opposite in a 10 page work filled with psycho-babble, women's lib nonsense,and the opinions of girlie men.But, this work has the ring of truth to it.Infidelity is the leading cause of divorce in the U.S.A.Other types of problems in marriage can ,sometimes, be dealt with in a constructive manner.However, when TRUST is missing you are,metaphorically, building on sand.The main character is a man, full grown who understands the difference between right and wrong no matter what wives and their silly friends say to the contrary.

In real life cheating is often a symptom of wanting out of the relation; so is a violent reaction to the wrong doing. Could it be that this is a story in which the two main characters both got what they truly wanted? I’ve never known a real life Phil and I’m not sure that CB has either; can’t say whether he got what he wanted or what he deserved.

but still an interesting story. Married for years and he had to hear her say that life was all about winning? The man was a bit dense. His reaction was understandable and does say a lot about how he thinks.
If a man like this ever gets into another relationship it will likely be a cold day somewhere.

Revenge stories are the best!
We love to see this author and others create these non-wimp, revenge stories. It makes up for the other wimp stories that certain authors [JPB for example] seem to dwell on. The story itself was good,however- Phil got away to easily and the whore should be buried six feet under in the desert someplace. Nevertheless, thanks to this author for all the hard work & effort.

You will always have the reconciliationists (they want the couple to get back together no matter what) dislike a story like this one. I thought the revenge aspect of the story somewhat tame - he hit his rival once and burned his possessions that reminded him of her (I guess he should have recycled them).

Revenge story?
Not really, in my opinion. Generally, there is little that is legal that can be done to an unfaithful spouse. And the husband usually pays no matter what.
I got a kick out of the husband escalating the argument. Most husbands learn early on that escalating is self-defeating. Like the husband in this story, it didn't stop me. Result? Thermo-nuclear confrontations. My wife has said many times that if I tell her to do something, that's the last thing she will ever do and if I tell her not to do something, that's the first thing she will do. I guess I'm glad I never told her what hubby in this story said.
I thought this story was rather sad. Everyone lost. Maybe that's real life in this kind of situation. Thanks for the story.

This story was well done. One thing I would have to wonder about was the argument over the furniture. Was she really so selfish that she thought her husband should buy her new furniture to replace 2 year old stuff or was she picking a fight to give herself an excuse to run off to meet Phil? Guess we'll never know.
To those who have commented that the hero shouldn't have been arrested for buring his own stuff think again. Most communities have laws about when and where you can have an bonfire. Usually not in your own frnt yard.

Granted, that was a simple story. But give me every day a simple story with a solid foundation and I prefer it over the prevailing formula which seems to have taken root recently. For the simple question WHY the wife did what she did I don’t have to go to seven schools of thought in therapy or having to consult a crystal ball - for the simple reason that the author was kind enough to PROVIDE US with the basics. We don’t need to fill endless gaps with our own speculations or hit each other on the head when the speculations don’t match. Thank you author for that.
While I would have preferred less predictable plot, the pace and the characters were refreshing, and I do become more and more allergic to the ‘demi- gods wimps’ which resemble nothing but morality plays. None of that could be found here. Thanks again.

I became aware of the phenomenon of the “angry, yet inexplicably generous cheated husbands” in some LW stories. WHY, OH WHY would he “give her every thing she wants”? Is the material world below us? Some kind of consequences for the wife...

The author's prose is good, the storyline is simple and uncomplicated, and the characters felt and acted realistically. She cheated and got caught. Her hubby dumped her then divorced her as was his right. I'm forced to chuckle at the wife's assertion that "it didn't mean anything." If the affair doesn't mean anything, then why do it?
Her long term cheating with Phil just isn't something that can be easily forgiven so I can't imagine why these two would ever reconcile. It's a fine story, charleybear, and one that I enjoyed. Thank you.

It is so refreshing to read a story where the man is actually a man. No self examination to try to figure out what happened. No whining, hand wringing. No hope when she cheats with the guy he hates more than anyone. That is really rubbing his nose in it! Great story, great writing. May be the best I have read yet.
