Painfully moving
Tale of an American Dark Period;
Continues on today
In multiple forms
From Africa through Asia
•) american gotic
The most tragic thing, y'all
is that this story actually happened
not so very long ago really
yet there are precious few tellings
an opera, a book, a newspaper article
and now a seemingly fenceside poem
that may be the most poignant of all
For what is the real crime here
as Tess so cleverly obscures
the matter of fact of course she would
wouldn't you?
deliver your children unto god
rather than have them face the devil?
Spot on
with dem words.
~
Sweet poet, I read this yesterday with great interest since I write poetry along the same lines. I'm still wondering if it's "too much" or not. A bit difficult to read. But it is a GOOD poem. Thank you for sharing.
A memory and a warning
“Small sacrifice” took me to the ‘small’ sacrifice of Abraham. Only there, of course, God had mercy. Not too much mercy since then, to build on hope for me. Or maybe people, who created gods in their own image, have grown cruller and cruller?
Please, tell this story and its likes in every forum you can. To preserve memory, and to stand as a warning sign to what we are capable of doing.
P.S. - a strange dialogue
Between hearts wrenching poem and a reader who finds it funny.
I can’t make up my mind which is more painful for me: the cry of pain of those devastated by human cruelty, or those who always seem to be smiling or laughing at the sight.
p.s.s Why do we always see the terrible photos of smiling and laughing people next to death scenes - celebrating what? The death of their own humanity?
An American tragedy!
Too real - too sad.
Regards, DJ
Nice going, Tess...
you never fail to surprise me!
