Culture Shock...
The story was OK, as stories go, but there were too many points where it was obvious that the story was written for Europe and then transplanted to the US.
"American dollars"? In the US, we don't talk about "American dollars". Is there another kind? Yes, several - but we assume that "dollars" without a modifier are "US dollars", not "Canadian dollars" or "Hong Kong dollars" or "Australian dollars".
"VAT" is a uniquely European plague; we don't have that here. Many states (but not all!) have a state "sales tax", but that's not the same thing.
Want to set a story in the UK, or in Austria, or India? We don't mind. But if you're going to set the story in the United States, then please use such unamerican details.
Interesting
wonder how long it took her to divorce hubby. And now she would be to worried to go back to the guy she loves. She would, as most women do, go right back to the kind of guy she divorced. Love is hell when you arent honest with it. Brings to mind a philosophical question, life is meant to be enjoyed, who do so many people put themselves in a place they cant enjoy life?
Fizzle
There are slow burners and there are damp squibs. One builds gradually to a climax so satisfying it makes the journey worthwhile; the other fizzles for ages and then dies out in a wisp of smoke. Sorry, but this fell into the latter category: two and a half pages of preamble filled with oddly-named characters and dialogue which appeared to have been run through a pocket translator, followed by a couple of lines of actual sex, presented with all the eroticism of a police statement.
True romance.
A really romantic story, well told. But virgin at 35, and so good at seduction, no way.
