A woman/wife who recognizes that there are many ways to serve others and that even those ways that the world deems small are huge to the people being served. Her man did this out of love and not as a means to a self-centered end. A story of a real man and woman I'd be proud to know IRL. Dad wasn't the only one with tears in his eyes. What greater sacrifice could they and he make to mankind??? The reality is credibility plus long-term respect for those things of value is held closely by most but not enough by some. He says what we want to but can't in such a conversational and entertaining manner. While not everyman, it is kinda nice when you know the bottom won't fall out when it shouldn't.
So thanks HDK. Waiting a day or so may save some lemming cleanup and I guess we can wait that long - but not 30 days or more 4 pennie lain or such.

This was a beautifully composed tale - a tale of fidelity and love and beautifully told. I wish I knew what HDK's secret is. Wait, it just came to me - it's called talent.
Don't know if it was the third cup of coffee
that caused my heart to start pounding and my chest to tighten up or the would she or wouldn't she suspense in this story. I suspect that it was mostly the story that caused my discomfort. Once again HDK creates the tension and then gives us a happy ending. Another masterpiece from HDK.

*snif* I want one just like that... The combination of humor and sentimentality makes this story a winner. We always get to know HDK's characters. We know their quirks and foibles, their relationships and interactions - and that he can do it so well in such short length is just short of a miracle and a mere hint of his talent. The wiufe's display and counter throw and reason and moral clarity used on Jason is akin to a JUDO Black Belt 7th degree body throw. I suspected with this story being 2 pages that this might be where HDK was headed but it was very well done

This was truly a Loving Wives story. One of the best I've ever read. The confrontation between the wife and the ex speaks for itself. I really liked the relationship the husband and wife had. He could express his fears and concerns and not be looked upon by her as a wimp. Although I thought he whined a bit I liked the raport he had with his wife. 5 stars and a thumbs up on this one.

First rate depiction of what love, marriage and
fidelity is all about. Dialog is great as always - you have an ear for the spoken word.
If I were a conspiracy theorist - which I'm not - I'd think maybe Jeff's wife had told her about the diamond earrings and that the necklace would have to wait. So then she knows he is in the restroom and plays it for all it's worth.

It's hard to imagine reading about a true loving wife here in the loving wife section. There are too many "authors" (using that term very loosely) that seem to think that wives shouldn't have the ability to withstand another man's bullshit and find betrayal so very erotic. Thank you for showcasing a true loving couple. Just like in the story, it's great to see diamonds instead of the crap that normally stinks up this section.

Great Romance; Great Story
HDK your stories keep getting better and better, and we got two in a row this week. A loving wife who is well grounded and very very bright...what a concept!
eroticism & esp. possibly bad decision implied
but the story turned out to be a focus on, a discussion about, love and family functionality: how a loving set of parents raise their kids and how that unit is the "troops" standing against bad elements; and how each parents, as leaders of the "troops" do their jobs accordingly in the safeguarding of the group
with many other elements flying around: is she or is she not going to make a decision that can not be reversed and which would have tragic consequences?, etc. And, yes, as the girls say, there's a lot of loving sex by the parents, so one of the messages is: you can have lots of exciting sex and still have a good, strong family, with both partners defending the others against all who would want to hurt the "troops"...

Forty comments, and only one 75 keeps it from being a slam-dunk, all 100s. As well it should. Brother, you've written some great stories, but this might be your best. I kind of got a hint at where you were going to go when you had the mother-in-law so vocally defend Greg at the family gathering. Like mother, like daughter. I got worried for a second, when the colonel joined the wife in her office, but I knew when she started quizzing him about heroism that she wasn't going to succumb to his advances. Outstanding work. Neither husband nor wife is portrayed as a stereotype. They make wise choices based on a solid, open relationship.
