I was going over some of the questions left by other readers and one which repeated stuck out. Why is the husband, indeed most of the husband characters in thecelt stories so generous towards their disrespectful cheating wives?
Having worked with children of divorced families and their parents, I can testify that indeed in real life such generosity (especially in divorces which are not 'amicable') is more of an exception than the rule.
In my opinion it goes back to the personality traits of the
author himself, or at least to those of his alter ego - projected in the stories. No one can deny the author the artistic freedom to let the main characters choose what they might consider as the high road. They could argue 'I am not lowering my self to her level, no matter how self degrading she chose to be. By being decent I am remaining loyal to my own self esteem, respecting myself, not her. If anything, sooner rather than later the children would make the comparison between the way I treated her and the way she treated me and come to their own conclusions.

Sorry I disagree with the story and agree with
some of the posters. This woman was a cheat, a slut, and since she was fucking someone involved in her work she is a whore/prostitute. Why would the husband leave the home? Why would the husband give primary care to a slut, and unfit mother? He can show to a judge her actions, her plans, and the lack of interest in the home and children by the investigation, why let her have custody at all? Not unlike letting towelhead assholes run amuck, killing everybody they can, and assuming that "it will run its' course" and get back to normal. Not unlike watching the fucking Dow Jones drop like a rock since November 4th when the "annointed one" took office, and while that "runs its' course" people are losing their investments, their jobs and their homes.
