I like how the eds classify stories now
I think they want the cheating authors to leave and take the downer commentators (like me) with them. No skin off my ass. You authors that post cheating/romance/realistic type reaction stories should get together and decide where you want to post and Ill be happy to read your stuff there. This site can go back to being a support group from springer reject fatties with emotional issues to tell each other how enlightened they all are for not being bound by conventional ideas on marriage and interpersonal relationships. Fine with me. I dont begrudge them their 'lifestyle' and Ive seen enough on showtime after dark programming to know its not my cup of tea so its not like im going to be swayed by their arguments anymore than they will be swayed by mine. All that happens on a site that tries to be all things to all people is that everyone steps on each others toes.
Anyway, sorry for the ot rant.
I thought this chapter was pretty good. Showed the wifes growth as a person and made her more into a person that I could understand the husband wanting to be with (if you are going for reconciliation). I also liked that the husband wasnt super pathetic and sappy regarding the ex. He didnt even think about her until others brought her up so he seemed to be moving on even if he hadnt found someone new yet. At least he wasnt sitting around his new city crying himself to sleep every night wondering what she was doing.
I did kinda wonder why the father was so into her though. She wasnt a great person when they split. She didnt like her own dad that much (Ill read between the lines and assume its because they didnt respect him because he let her mother get away with so much) so it seems odd the father still wants to see them together. Hes got to know that she wouldnt have respected him if had given her a pass after the original discovery. It would have just reinforced her opinion of him as a pathetic little man, and given her more positive feedback on her old lifestyle choices (that she could do whatever she wanted and that everyone around her was there to cater to her whims).
Maybe the father had changed his opinion of her as she grew up and matured, but he was pushing reconciliation right from the start wasnt he? He was supposed to be non-pc, and tell it like it is, so I dont understand why he would have blinders about this particular subject unless there was a reason and you didnt mention the reason.
Anyway, I think its a good story so far. Hope you continue it and things work out for both of them (not necessarily together). I really did like how you went to some trouble to show the wifes growth and make an eventual reconciliation (if it happens) more palatable. Dont get too carried away though (i.e. have her working with homeless lepers from the inner city or something - you mentioned she is going to bad areas so I hope thats not a lead up to finding out she is now some kind of mother terrisa type). Thanks again for writing.
Well done regardless of classification
The website's classifcation of the first two chapters is more than baffling, since this is a rather standard Loving Wives story. Perhaps it is an attempt to tone down the vitriol spouted by people like TLee and all the anonymous heroes of the LW genre.
This story meets the standards thecelt has established over the years. That in itself is high enough praise.

This is the first time I've had tears running down my cheeks as I read a Lit story, but your description of his father's last days really hit home. My father died at age 97 and I was fortunate to be able to visit with him rather frequently during the last few months, although it was a 900-mile drive one-way to see him. I learned a lot more about him and his early life in those last few months. Now, a month away from my 80th birthday and waiting for a heart operation, I realize it is time for my son and me to get closer together. Thank you for setting the stage.
The character development is pure and classic the celt. The story line intriguing. I look forward to the rest of this story. I just hope I can find it.

This is great writing from any source. I'm serious O or Redbook would print this in a heartbeat. You should give serious thought to selling this as a legit (meaning non sex site) novel. Keep it up.
Oh, I dunno about that
When he first saw her he said he felt absolutely no pain or anger.. But he can't forgive her?? Sounds to me like he is fighting how he really feels and won't admit it to himself.. He said they could have gotten over the cheating part with some help but now that the 'childish' trait of her personality has been changed [his reason for the divorce, he says]he can't forget or forgive.. Well, could he have gotten over it or as it appears, he couldn't have gotten over the affair?? The man seems ambivalent about it, does he not?? She sounds like a walking dream, a real one, so she should be awfully hard to disregard.. Could be interesting how he handles it.

good episode that moved me to tears as well.I was not there when my father died,I was on my way but got there a few hours to late and have felt sorrow and guilt about it ever since.Another commenter said you should write a novel(or novels),let me know and I will join the queue at the bookshop.

what the fuck was his dads problem? she fucked around on three different occasions because she was upset with him and felt she wasnt in control! another thing, there is no way in hell mark would have been promoted after what he did and for fucks sake, i still cant get over the way his dad acted. "Damn you, what did you do? did you make her leave?" is complete bs and frankly, he should have told his dad off instead of taking the verbal beating and left him to die. fucking terrible and most of your shitty stories are like this, with stupid plot lines. and in case any one says some crap like "its a story, dont read it if you dont want to, you dont know what love really is, etc", well you can go fuck yourself.
Real people
Good story with real people, but he is a more forgiving man than me. I wouldn't be sitting down to dinner with Billy--she would simply be dead to me.
The scenes with his father
The scenes with his father impacted me emotionally. They are very very well-written.
It looks like this may be a story of redemption/reconciliation. It will be interesting to see ....
