Very good story
I think we all know that he still loves her.. Paula knows it and knows Billy really loves him to the point she could be hurt badly and that would sadden Paula.. We all know that time heals and 5 years should be enough to forget the mistake Billy made.. I think he really has but he doesn't realize how much he has forgiven and but not quite forgotten.. I think they'll finally get back together, remarry and thoroughly enjoy the rest of their lives!!
Very nice
Enjoying it so far. Looking forward to the final chapter.
One comment. You are mixing up your Pennsylvania cities. He is supposed to be living in Pittsburgh. At the end he says his office overlooks Boathouse Row and the Art Museum, with a comment about Rocky. Well, that would put him in the western end of center city Philadelphia, or more likely in the Farimount section of the city.
A minor point and no one else would probably notice.
PA Rebel.
realistic
Celt;
I enjoy each and every one of your submissions, this one more than the others. But as I followed the story it struck me that the very act of asking her to hostess was the same as her being in the house [she lost]. It was actually and in reality very cruel. I recognised it for the transition or progress in the plot but out of Billy's character to accept the situation with out some trumoil.
the continuing saga
Hey PARebel: I noticed, too.
Unless thecelt has a big surprise in store for us in chapter 4, this story is headed exactly where everyone thinks it is headed.I would have been opposed to that outcome after Chapter 1, but the evident maturation of the Billy character since the divorce makes the final denouement far more palatable.
I also think the author is doing a good job
Of making Billy more mature. He also seems to be having their relationship grow again so, if they do reconcile, it wont be just like a continuation of the previous marriage with a 5 year pause. This is two things ive often complained about (wife unlikable so why does he still want her, and relationships that exist independently of the fact that the couple isnt in contact for so long). Looking forward to the next chapter no matter what happens because the author laid the foundation I often fell is lacking in reconciliation stories. Thanks for writing.
Worried in Colorado
A great story so far. However, his treatment of Mark seems inconsistent. He exacts his revenge at a later date instead of immediately doing so when I would assume his anger would be at its peak. Why would he promote a man he knows he can't trust? Stuart doesn't want to be around him. Just can the SOB. He's supposed to be running the show. Maybe there is more retribution in store. I hope its not the old hump and dump for Billie.
I Like this story - realistic and romantic
Reality is people screw up. People change. People get confused. Celt's story has captured these parts of life very well. Very nice romance.
A very nice chapter.
Life isn't something that happens to you ... it is what you do.
You've done a great job of capturing the angst of two people that love each other but have had to part.
Regards, Jack
Excellent story!
This is so much more realistic than most stories I've read here. Very well done! The emotions, characters and reactions are all realistic. Nice to read a well crafted story again.
Pitt or Philly
Your work is great as always, but I agree with the earlier commenter...Pittsburgh or Philidelphia? It's really that single line about Rocky and the one immediately preceding it that pulled me right out of the story. Anytime the reader stops and says, "wait, what?", it's usually not good for the story.
Surprise!
Hey! This is turning out to be a pretty damned good story. Keep it up - I'm hoooooooookkkkkked!
enjoyable reading
Celt writes with emotion, understand of people, and a reasonably good knowledge of what readers want. This story is exceptionally good. One of Celt's best, and one of the very best if it were in "Loving Wives." The interaction between son and dying father is outstanding! The only area in the story were I found any problem is his description of Stu's and Billy's previous marriages. They both had children which did not enter into the story. I cannot wait to find out what happens between Stu and Billy in the remaining chapter (I assume there is another chapter as it's not a complete story yet?). RAG
Hmmm, It feels kinda hypercritical............
With that single statement I know I'm in the minority.
But what I mean is, the Dad worked on him kinda hard be died. I believe the passage was:
"Well? How do you feel about seein her again? Was it OK? Did she look the same? I've been waitin for you two to get back together you know. That's what I've been waitin for. Since you let her go, I guess you're too damn stubborn to do the right thing. Damn shame, if you ask me."
Hmm?? That tone carried over from part one where most everyone, but the husband, felt that someone cheating on him ok long as she said she was sorry and he was some kinda of idiot for feeling that it was unacceptable. Correction, he divorced her because she was selfish, not because she was sleeping around, so I guess I can see where everyone *might* feel that way. But the father's character, before he died, still acted like the son's character was over reacting, like Stu divorced Billy over burning his toast from time to time. Like marital infidelty is such a minor expectation in a marriage.
But because of the way you were developing Billy's character I was able to over look most of it. But here's where I thought it was hypercritcal:
When he caught his wife cheating he:
-Wanted to know why.
-He gave her a chance to explain the why's before the divorce
-He left her with two cars (per part 2 a Roadster and a Jaguar)
-He left her with the house that was paid for with a clear title
-He left her with a decent sized alimony check. Enough that he said that she wouldn't have to work again and his lawyer complianed about how generous it was.
-He couldn't wait to hear about how she had been from his father even 5 years later
But to his best friend, who his wife was cheating with he:
-Threatened his life if he even talked to his wife (now ex-wife) ever again
-Refused to give him a chance to explain or appologize. (something he did allow his ex-wife to do)
-Allowed his wife to prove she changed, but refused to allow the ex best friend the same chance.
-Waited 5 years to make his revenge personal with his ex best friend. In his wifes case he bent over backwards to make sure she came out ahead. But his the case of Mark he couldn't wait to look him in the eye as he screwed him over. He never ever did this to the wife
I guess I can't call it a romance story where the wife, in part one, admits she went after Mark because he was the husbands best friend and safe. All while 5 years later Stu is explaining that he is screwing Mark over because of the earlier betrayal, Mark's lack of honor and trust, and because he's in a postion to and no one can stop him, all while totally forgiving the woman who orchestrated the reason behind the original divorce and is now trying to find a way to get his ex-wife back in bed because he still loves her so much.
That to me is hypercritical.
Why forgive her after 5 years and wait 5 years to screw over Mark, when both were equally as guilty. Billy let Mark into their house and lead him to their bed, and Mark at least a few years later tried again to make it right, but Stu wasn't having it, but when Billy tried he couldn't wait to take her to a resturant to let her spill her guts about how sorry she was. In this part of the story all of the blame was placed on Mark and Stu let him swing
I just hope in part 4 Stu corrects this, because he's blaming all this on Mark and screwing him and his family over while letting Billy skate because he's still attracted to her. If he can forgive her he should have forgiven Mark too
-Risq
Just a teensy, tiny plot problem
Pretty good writing in this chapter though I have to say that having your ex-wife act as hostess at your inaugural party for fifty of your friends and co-workers is beyond awkward.
"Who's that?"
"My ex-wife. I divorced her because she was a lying, unfaithful, self-centered bitch. But she's better now. She's changed and we're friends again."
Um... yeah.
Baited Breath !!!
I have been waiting for the next chapters since part one.
Excellent writing style, I could not stop and I've re-read all the chapters thrice. Yep, three times.
Can't wait to see the resolution with Mark and of course with Billy.
Too bad this can't be a on-going novel.
I like it, can't you tell.
Your standard excellent wirting!
You continue to write wonderful stories.
I hope you have a surprise twist in the final chapter!
I can't wait!
I love this story.I am 70+ and there have been few stories that have moved me as much as this one. Please continue(and I hope they end up back together happily).
Usual fine story by the Celt
Another great story by thecelt, but, as many of your readers have said. Stuart's treatment of Mark and Billy is kind of mystifying. He banished Mark after he caught him with Billy, which is understandable, but then worked with him for 5 years for purely business reasons. He divorced Billy and never saw her during the same 5 year period. Then when he saw that Billy had matured, he resumed his friendship( not his Marriage) with her and asked her to co-host his huge party . At the same time he promoted Mark's assistant over Mark in revenge and refused to listen to anything Mark had to say.
As a result of all this Billy is going to be co-host at Stuarts party to which Mark will probably be invited. In my opinion he should have promoted Mark out of state. Now Mark has great opportunity to sabotage both Billy and Stuart. I have an ominous feeling about Mark's attendance at this party. Don't ever associate with a bitter man who hates you.
60 year old George
hmm
good writting. pretty boring characters and plot.
I Concur
Iam enjoying the feeling of being in tune with the comments about this story. As I had wet eyes I felt foolish but was pleased to note that previous comments had simular feeling. Great story and I look forward to read more of your stories
Stupid Wuss!
I'm getting a real bad feeling. Lemmme see... revenge consists of a non-promotion so Mark only makes $900K a year instead $1.2mil. and now he wonders why it lacked something??? Oh Boo-Hoo, revenge where is thy sting?
Alvaron53 - your intelligence impress all [not].
So are we to be impressed now, Alvaron53? Your level of bullshit is so outstanding, let's now enlighten the masses with your skillful responses. If we all had a nickel for every time you spout your "delusional arrogance" we would not need a lottery.
One thing is sure
Anonymous is most unimpressive. You're just a triviality in the scheme of things, another pathetic loser who contributes nothing positive. Keep on whining like the little brat you are.
You have got to be kidding
Stuart divorces Billy, moves to Denver. For 5 years. 5 years in a VIP job, where social events are part of the job description. 5 years he managed just fine by himself, with maybe his secretary Paula assisting.
Suddenly his father dies and he moves to Pittsburgh and...he can't do anything! He can't pick his own house without his ex, he needs her help running a social event, he has to ask Billy to wipe his arse...
What kind of idiots do you take us for? Did Stuart get a lobotomy with his promotion? Or maybe this is what I suspect it to be: a story being bulldozered in a pre-determined direction regardless of the inconsistencies and plot holes so large you could drive a Mack truck through them.
NONSENSE Story Line
NONSENSE!! If Mark burned down Stu's house after he screwed his wife, would he have gotten a bigger raise??? WHAT IS GOING ON BETWEEN THIS AUTHOR'S EARS???

Fling? No!
If he has a "fling" she will take it as more, and will be hurt if that is really all it is for him.
