Great

You're right. Once the burden was lifted from his shoulders, he could begin to live again fully.

Congratulations on a wonderful story.

Absolutely great!

Forgiveness is the hardest thing anyone can do. It can also be the most rewarding. There are many times it means more to the one giving it than to the one receiving.

Stellar - Absolutely Stellar Mitt Multiple KUDO's

Author this is your very best front to back story to date.

Now My Hope is that the next is even better, but that if it isn't - that wouldn't be all bad either!

Author - this places you here and there among the very best. This was intuitively deep, with sterling detail plus the plausibility was tangible with your talented touches of humanity - success and failure well described.

Thanks again Author - more please at interval.

Very good story

and well written but it lacks something.. Towards the ending, I believe.. Maybe it's the sudden drop of the story?? It would have been nice to read what we're all pretty sure will be the true ending.. Of course, we could be wrong so it would have been better to see the error in our thinking..

Good

good writing, so-so plot, characters that are, frankly, forgettable. overall, good.

I was expecting a great story!

This was better than the one I was expecting. Thanks for sharing your wonderful storytelling abilities!

great story

only one problem with it. Billy gives Stu (who by the way in the first chpt inroduces himself as Arthur- you may want to edit that one line) mind-blowing oral sex 2 or 3, but not once did he reciprocate. What's up with that???

Great writing

Another great offering from thecelt. THANKS. There are two things that don't add up. First, how would a successful business man NOT know what caused the divorce of the woman he was to "merge" with? Second, how did this not come up with her parents?

On a different level, it will be interesting to watch for the accusations of "another wimp ending." These are from those who do not understand that forgiveness is a gift you give yourself.

Best regards,
drmike

I know

I know for a fact that hate can consume you, changing you into someone unrecognizable that you can't even like. Hate and the consuming need for revenge changes your soul, so I can certainly understand forgiviness--not for the individuals involved, but for yourself. That being said, forgiveness doesn't mean that you forget the pain, the betrayal and what those individuals that hurt you are capable of doing. Trust is a delicate thing - can it be re-established when the individuals involved were your wife and your friend, people who have no idea of what strong values, including loyalty mean? I don't think so, but then again, I am not a hero like your character...

Disappointed in Colorado

I found Mark, the weasel, to be a despicable character. He seemed so proud and noble that he stayed away from Billy. When in fact she was the one that told him to get lost when he tried to contact her. He told Stuart that he didn't consider sleeping with her a betrayal of their friendship. Then later on admitted he betrayed him. Two paragraphs later he was back to "I knew it was wrong but I never thought of it as a betrayal of our friendship" Come on nobody is that stupid. Oh yes the other part of his defense was that he loved Billy.

Stuart was something else. By her own admission, Billy controlled him in their marriage. He caved into Sherrie so fast , it was unbelievable. (Not hard to see who wears the pants in that marriage.) Forgiveness is an admirable trait but at what expense? Realistically I don't think Stuart could survive in the dog eat dog corporate world.

Then there is Billy after visiting his father weekly for years, abstaining from sex and pining away for Stuart since the divorce, she now backs off? Are her control issues starting to resurface? I found the remark "I know how hard that was for you but I know Mark and Sherri will be so grateful." somewhat odd. I thought she didn't really know Sherrie?

You really blew the ending on this one!

However after having said all that, I am going to have to give you the top score. I have read all 4 parts several times. I can't seem to get your story out of my mind. I'll close with the title of a Rolling Stones song "You Can't Always Get What You Want"

Good job!

Jenny

Great Ending to an Excellent Story

Forgiveness benefits the forgiver more than the forgivee, which Stu finally realized. Plus, I think both Mark and Billie correctly recognized their betrayal and did the best they could to atone for it. Great story!

Wonderful!

As usual, you have done a wonderful job. However the ending leaves two unanswered questions:

One is obvious, "Where do they go from here?". The answer may seem plain to some, continued reconciliation, remarriage, etc. But it may not be that plain, or that simple for others.

The other question has been gnawing at me for a couple parts. Billy has a seemingly austere lifestyle. She lives in a simple apartment, drives a car that sounds very unpretentious, etc. Billy also was left very well off in te divorce settlement. With all that background she makes comments about not being able to afford this or that on her salary, or about her current life, "I have a life....". "I have committments I have to keep", etc. So the second question is really a two-part question.

Part One - "What did she do with the money from the divorce (selling the house, car and so on)?"

Part Two - "What is this life?" We know she teaches but what are these committments on a Saturday morning. Help us flesh out this growth and maturing that has taken place over 5-years. How has this growth translated into action and deeds.

Great story. I would love to see a part 5. You did say it was 4 parts to be published over 4 days. Maybe parts 2 and 3 which were published on the same day are really one part in your mind and we can look forward to a finale tomorrow. that would be fantastic.

I agree with JennyBear

She said almost everything I was planning on saying.

I didnt really have a problem with what the guy did in this chapter, just the way he went about doing it. Stuart could have got where you wanted him to go while still standing up for himself imo. Instead, you had him backslide into the same old behaviors that got him into trouble in the first place. When viewed in the context of him being the big boss of a large company, his weakness is even more disquieting.

Still a pretty good story even if my dislike for, or unease with, many of your male leads resurfaced to a small extent in this chapter. Thanks again for writing.

great story

I was looking forward to Chapter 4 and it, like the previous 3 chapters, lived up to my every expectations. I now try to imagine what would happen between Stu and Billy. Undoubtedly they would at least remain very very good friends, but since Billy was finally forgiven, something between the pair has been set free with remarriage being a possibility. I guess that Stu finally fully matured and was able to get beyond his problem with forgiveness. Celt, please submit another of your special stories ASAP. RAG

"Totally" Redeemed yourself on part 4

While I thought in some places a sledge hammer was used in place where a smaller hammer could have done better, that was a minor observance

I'm sorry that I got ahead of myself in part 3 because the revenge was a long time in comeing and looked unfair of Stu to Mark, but like I hoped you redeemed Stu by letting him do the right thing in the end. Though I'm not sure if it was because of Mark's wife or because he was already intending to and she gave him a push to make it happen faster, but you tied it up nicely.

This feels odd.

I enjoy your writing but this story left me pondering a bit at what was really going on. Stuart is a successful executive but he’s a weakling as Average-Joe and JennyBear have pointed out. He doesn’t find out why Billy’s first marriage ended? Come off it! IF he’s a successful executive, he knows better than that. It’s called ‘due diligence’. Stuart doesn’t fire Mark immediately? Come off it! If Mark’ll betray the boss, he’ll betray the company. No successful executive would ever let perceived competence stand in the way of getting rid of someone if that means doing what’s best for the company in the long run. Stuart apparently hasn’t prepared Philip and then puts him in charge of a division to sink or swim. Not likely IRL. Philip’s success or failure is Stuart’s success or failure. Big-time mentoring is in order. Who needs Mark then? And it turned out that Mark never did get that job. While she may well have changed, Billy girl is playing Stuart like a puppeteer pulling the strings. She knows when to come on to Stuart and when to back off and let ole Stu think he’s in charge when he takes a decision to get more involved with Billy. The house choice, party preparations and the party itself were almost classic descriptions of female deception and manipulation of a guy who didn’t stand a chance. Girls are really good at this. Billy is in control but is doing a superb job of acting. However, if she has truly changed, then both she and Stuart will benefit. Superb writing and... Well, let’s face it, without things in a story that don’t necessarily make sense, there would be no drama and not much of a story. So, about as good as it gets, on balance. Thanks for writing. Phil

Totaly Trite!

The wimps degradation is complete. The old don't get caught fucking around for a couple of days, weeks, months, years, and the wimps always cave. I expect chapter 5 will begin with him finding her in bed with Mark AND Sherri. Watta wuss, I expect he'll be eating cream pie for some time to come.

The first two installments or so, okay...

the last two or so, lame, cliche, trite, vulgar, and a total waste of my time. the story would have been better if it were focused on either one of three other characters:

stu's daughter (whom we know nothing about other than that she's married, lived in Germany or some crazy society around there, and had 2 kids. but even that total silence on that daughter, she's more interesting, more endearing than this lame i-can't-live-without-that-cheater stu guy

the second person: billy's dad; that guy has more guts and back bone than this i-can't-live-with-that-cheater stu guy.

the third person could be either lame stu's sick and dying dad or lame stu's secretary. without her, lame stu would likely spend most of the time thinking and crying over billy and why she did this or that "to me! what did I do to deserve those ugly things?! why, god, why?"

i don't know why authors are so fascinated with guys that are total losers like this stu guy... perhaps such characters reveal something about the authors own nature?

Too good?

The first part of the story is too convincing. None of the major characters come out of it well and they will all better off without the others. Paula and dear devout dad aren't characters. In practice people don't hang on to bad emotions for as long as five years and for me the second half doesn't make it plausible that those in this story are that different. In the first part it was Billy as she then was he loved; why should he still be attracted to the new (very implausible) one? The only real reason the story gives is that she has the same beautiful body and gives good head. For those readers disappointed by the blow jobs they get a reminder that all women have a beautiful receptive cunt and if your partner wants you at all both of you will get pleasure from its use.

SLOW HEALING PROCESS

Healing takes time, but if you do not let healing take place then YOU suffer. In this case all are suffering from a most regretable situation and need the final healing.

Billy appears to have grown in responability and character and came to basic peace with life (but is living with the "injury" as one might with a limp after a broken ankle).

Mark, from his words, recognized his errors, worked to show more than a few words of "I am sorry." With the skills he has he could have left to go elsewhere, but stayed and worked hard in an attempt to redeem himself. Many in life would not have the courage to have done that. His wife made the basic point - there comes a time to move on one way or another.

Stu has been doing just that, "stewing" under the surface. By keeping it "alive" he has allowed himself to have continued pain. In life you need to let go and move on. Things will not be the same, they never are, even when everything is going well. When you "stew" about things that others did to hurt you, you continue to hurt yourself. That does not mean you ignor the effects, or embrace the offenders automatically.

If you step on thorn you hurt and limp - remove the thorn and you heal - and while you may continue on you do watch out for thorns to avoid a repeat.

The writing was good! ! Storyline moved. I enjoyed. Look forward to more.

Mark would have left the company . . .

Even if Stuart could work with Mark on a purely business level, the whole unpleasantness of the situation would have propelled a capable manager like Mark to seek employment elsewhere. Many times it turns out that the way you relate to your co-workers and your superiors is more important than how smart you are or how well you do your job, especially when it comes to advancement. A marginally competent mid-level executive will advance a lot faster if he/she has a good personality and relates well to others; a highly competent and intelligent mid-level executive with poor interactive skills is often held back from advancement. I see this every day at my workplace and I think it is often true. Mark would have sensed the door was closed to any possibility of advancement based on his broken relationship with his immediate superior and he would have moved on. With Mark's leaving the company, the continued catalyst fueling Stuart's buried anger against Mark would be absent. This might very well have freed Stuart to seek companionship with others instead of walling himself into a shell for five years. I'm also disappointed that Stuart, who did nothing but criticise his ex for her selfishness, is apparently unwilling to reciprocate with oral sex when his ex gives him perhaps the best blow job of his life. Now he is selfish in return?

Liked the story

and I can't comment on the realism as I don't have any experience with big deal executives, but I do have a comment on your writing style. My "inner voice" takes on an artificial, sing-song quality as I read your characters speeches. Kind of like the old joke where actors take deep breathes, spew out several lines of dialogue to the balcony, and then look at the audience meaningfully. Do you know what I mean? It breaks the flow of the story and makes me want to giggle. As Harrison Ford once said, "You can write this sh*t, George, but I can't say it." Or something to that effect. Any way, keep up the writing. As always, thanks for sharing your talent.

Worst story on site

Mark nails the boss's wife and the boss gives him a promotion. IF HE MURDERED THE BOSS'S PARENTS TOO would he have gotten it sooner, with more pay? A corner office, or a stock bonus too??

Laughably ridiculous story

Just part of the unbelieveable dialogue between the Big Boss, Stu, and his subordinate's wife. STU: "Did Mark tell you about what he did to me? He was the one responsible for the breakup of my marriage." SHERRI: "Yes, he did. He also told me that he has worked as hard as he can to make it up to you." How exactly was Mark supposed to "MAKE IT UP TO" STU? Hard work (doing what he was paid to do in the first place) could bring back a wife and marriage? Talk to him outside work, be friends again with the guy who screwed his wife 3 times could even be conceiveable? Was Mark supposed to have sex with Stu to make it up to him? How about Stu having sex with Sherri to make it up to him, since neither author nor all the 100% commentators think anything is strange about Stu promoting the guy who screws his wife. Yeh, just have Stu pull out little Stu and say, "Here Sherri, chew on this." I'm sure Mark on the receiving end this time would think it all just part of a days hard work at Acme Co.

Well written story

Well written story. But, part of me wants Stuart to remarry Billy--and have her cheat with Mark again. Sorry, but it's what Stuart deserves. You know--fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me.

Celt, you should write Comedy

You have a Character, storm into the office of her HUSBAND'S Boss, call him names, then defends her Husband for breaking up his marriage! Put the pipe down, Dude. Studies show the effects are long term!
