Sad but happy ending!!!

Excellent Jack! I really loved the sad but happy ending. Impressive and beautifully written - a worthy addition to all the other "El Paso" contributions! Thanks for a highly sensual and romantic story with more than a little heartache. Bravo, Pete.

Hey Now!

We can share the women, we can share the wine.
We can share what we got of yours cause we done shared all of mine.
Keep on rollin, just a mile to go;
Keep on rollin my old buddy, youre movin much too slow.

I just jumped the watchman, right outside the fence.
Took his rings, four bucks in change, aint that heaven sent?
Hurts my ears to listen, shannon, burns my eyes to see;
Cut down a man in cold blood, shannon, might as well been me.

We used to play for silver, now we play for life;
And ones for sport and ones for blood at the point of a knife.
And now the die is shaken, now the die must fall.
There aint a winner in the game, he dont go home with all.
Not with all.

Leavin texas, fourth day of july,
Sun so hot, the clouds so low, the eagles filled the sky.
Catch the detroit lightnin out of sante fe,
The great northern out of cheyenne, from sea to shining sea.

Gotta go to tulsa, first train we can ride.
Gotta settle one old score, one small point of pride.
There aint a place a man can hide, shannon will keep him from the sun
Aint a bed can give us rest now, you keep us on the run.

Jack straw from wichita cut his buddy down,
And dug for him a shallow grave and laid his body down.
Half a mile from tucson, by the morning light,
One man gone and another to go, my old buddy youre moving much too slow.

We can share the women, we can share the wine.

Nice take on it!

All the different takes on a story is what make this conept work so well. Each author writes their own version and so far all are great. This is another winner, considering the author that should not be a surprise! Thanks Jack.

Very good reading

When I saw the story was going to be about El Paso and Falena, I had my doubts about wanting to read the story. I will admit that seeing who the author was did make my decision for me. Being from Austin, I figured a story about the song would be rather corny. I was wrong. Good job, it put a different spin on the story, but one that I enjoyed.

Superb

Very, VERY nicely done. One of the best STORY stories I've read on L'tica.

A lot of heart to this work. A lot of love for the American southwest. And I totally agree with you on L'Amour. Decades before it became fashionable, he wrote historically accurate westerns that are timeless now.

Great job with Feleena, too. The eternal sexual tension of the Anglos flooding the west and the "Spanish" (as L'Amour's characters would say) is one of the erotic benchmarks of the West (which did not go unremarked in L'Amour's works). Let's face it: a hot Mexican woman is one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet.

Good job!

Stunning

I have always loved the song and imagined the love that the cowboy and his "Mexican beauty" had for each other. You have truly brought the song to life and I could not keep from singing and humming that song for the entire time that I read. I always been emotional about the last two words of the song, "Feelena, goodby". Your ending brought great joy and has replaced the sadness that I felt. Thank you so much!

Wonderful !

"Down in the West Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl..."

A fine song, and finally a story that does it justice.
