I liked it until...
Our love life is great. We have a mutual understanding when it comes to making love. She tells me what she wants and I do it. As for me, I like it all.
This line spoiled it for me somewhat. A marriage should be a loving, trusting partnership of two equals. It should not be a relationship where one person is permanently subservient in an attempt to atone for some past crime. Either he has been forgiven or he hasn't - either way discussions about their mutual sex life should involve give and take on both sides. The fact that he enjoys it all does not alter the more pertinent fact that she now calls the shots.
Jake and I enjoy doing these stories. Let us know what you think. To the last anon comment. "I do what she wants" was more of a metafor. (A joke) He does the things to her that she likes. He doesn't care, He likes it all. When you make your woman happy, You'll be happier too.
Sorry if it was mis-understood. My characters aren't wimps! Thanks for reading my stories and commenting.
DG Hear
but you go too far the other way more often than not. Many of your stories feature total asshole husbands. Who the fuck gives a shit if this guy grew up eventually? He was a total scumbag and everyone would be freaking out if you wrote a story where the woman acted like this guy. Its not just this story either. Your latest kick seems to be writing about jackasses.
Making the guy flawed isnt the same as making him unlikable. Making a guy less than perfect doesnt mean he has to be a total fuck-up and the wife has to be perfect. Having a reconciliation where the guy doesnt deserve one is just as unsatisfying as the more standard perfect husband/unlikable wife story imo. Its even worse for me because Im supposed to be identifying with the guy in this story. Almost everyone likes to think of themselves as basically nice (not perfect, but an ok guy) so its difficult to get into the trials and tribulations of an unredeemable asshole who brought his problems on himself.
Thanks for writing but I would appreciate a little more balance and a bit nicer guy in your stories than this one (or the one where the guy dumps his pregnant girlfriend and doesnt talk to her for 10 years but still she loves him, or etc etc).
but found out I had to complete, as the story was written by DG Hear. Somehow, I felt this was a lousy story, not your usual standard. Most likely those calling men wimps when they take back their cheating wifes, will give you full marks and a bravo for this one. In this case you solved her dilemma with an accident, which was cheap/easy. No, sorry, I did'n like it.

One of the few stories that you have written that I didn't care for. Go back and just use your ideas.
and I understood the metaphor. The Greeks called it 'agape' or love where you serve another's needs before your own needs. If both do it (and wifey had already done so), then it makes for a great relationship. Well done and thanks, DG. Phil

stereotypical?
Not 100 though I was tempted, just to spite some of the negative commentors. It was not a perfect story, and yes even stereotypical. However, the world is FULL of stereotypes. Show me ONE human who is totally original. Indeed, the one complaining of you being stereotypical is a stereotype - professing to know a perfect story, when they probably couldn't write a readable story if their lives depended on it.
A lot of the commenters don't understand the context. This really is how people thought during that time period. It has nothing to do with todays values.
and thus I feel a bit disappointed because
you could do something even more interesting from
this work.
Funny thing is that I did not get very enthusiastic

I really liked this story
I'm not sure why there seem to be so many negative comments, but it sounds like some have read your other stories, and this one is quite different. Me, I've never read a thing before by you, so I came with no expectations.
And I found this to be very well written and moving. It also felt very true to life to me. What I appreciated was the chance for redemption given by the wife. It's not easy to forgive, but when her ex (soon to be ex?) was seriously injured and needed a helping hand, she did the unselfish thing and offered him help. I also liked that she was not a doormat. What she did (letting him move into the guest room to help him with his recuperation) took strength of character.
So kudos! to the author and to this short story. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
The story could have been a bit more emotionally written but the story was good and I like a "happy" but in progress ending. Maybe the negative commentors are just used to seeing lives disintigrate and kids caught in the cross fire type stories. This one was more true to life than many in this catagory. Readers have to take into account that you were also writing the story based on the lyrics of a song. You can't stray to far from the basic story line because it is mapped out for you. This limits things but can also be a challange to make a good story out of it! Keep writing.
Thia ia your best story so far. Thank you. I aspire to write like you did here.

Not a story a diary
This isn't a story it is a diary of man bashing.
The little wife of course didn't bother with birth control and used pregnancy for a momma trip to the easy life.
Chalk up prego 2 and no sex forever again.
Never blame a stupid woman for cutting a guy some slack "as she only is the one who looses a baby" and of course it is a husband's fault he cheats when the shrew is not being a wife but a shrew.
What sane male would ever want an ice zone back like that, but some writer who hates himself and therefore all men.
Write an even story including women who fart, stink, don't wash, are bad lays, get yeast infections, lie about most things and are nuts half the time on PMS and crazy the other half not on PMS. That is what 99% of the women are in this world and everyone of them are on this site.

DG Hear,
I liked this story and I enjoyed Jake's as well. You two make a good tandem. Keep it up
DG, I loved this one! I think that your heroine, having caught her husband cheating, looked at her marriage, then considered her own her options and with a heavy heart decided not to cheat but to divorce. IMHO an intelligent, brave, and clever character. This was as good as it comes and the plethora of negativity surprises me! Now, DG, you must give as a few more chapters while I read Jake's contribution. Pete.

Well Done!
Excellant story. Realistic and a pleasure to read. Not that the adultery and accusations were fun, but that the end of the story shows hope. That his wife still doubts his faithfulness is the icing on the cake. Maybe "Once a cheater always a cheater" isn't true; but once burned; twice shy definately is. Very well done.
He had a revelation all right.. And it is a very happy ending.. But it wouldn't have been if Dianne had not loved him so much as to be willing to give him a second chance.. Women, as a rule, are more willing to forgive a husband than the reverse.. He realizes marriages don't have nine lives like cats, so he's more than willing to be on the straight and narrow, as all husbands should be..
The husband in the role of the confessing cheater and the wife in the role of areal loving wife were truely refreshing. The narraive line though could have been a bit more imaginative (someone used the term a diary) and less predicable. Still the total package above most of the rest, especially now days!

very interesting
I liked the story, because it is a near mirror of what happened to me. Right down to the names. Same reasons same emotions after. Just didnt get the happy ending, which I guess I didnt deserve. Those that do, hang on tight, as long as things are ok for you too. What alot people fail to realize is that they are in love with the idea of love, and mistake what ever their current situation is for the real McCoy. In this story that doesnt appear to be the case. With the really exact emotions relayed in this story I suspect the author either lived this or someone relayed it to him that has gone through it.

I though this story was an accurate depiction of one selfish male who got a well-deserved wake up call. The wife could have gone out and got revenge, revenge is easy. It takes more strength to at least give the person another chance. And it sounds like he is making his second chance count because you know there won't be a third.
The problem with infidelity is the lost trust, its damn near impossible to regain the trust that has been broken--especially if its continuously being broken. No matter how much you love that person you will never fully trust them again, you'd always wonder if they're out screwing someone if they are late getting home, you always wonder if they are lying to you--it's just a horrible feeling. I don't know how this wife is able to reconcile with her dirt bag husband, he has utterly destroyed her trust, how did they come up with methods of him keeping it in his pants? His excuses for cheating was their constant bickering so how has that change? I am one of those people who truly believe once a cheater always a cheater, this husband used these different women as a way of punishing/getting even with his wife for their arguments, he had the "I'll show you" mentality so I don't see where he'd change his outlook. I didn't read where they went to counseling to hash out their problems constructively, or learned about conflict resolution; they just got back together & had another kid--?! It seems a bit far fetch if you ask me. The trust isn't there in this marriage, counseling would be the only way to work through that, I'm pretty sure there's a lot of anger on the wife's part, I don't see how the marriage can survive without professional help. I would've just divorced his sorry ass ASAP! She stayed with him even knowing/suspecting that he's been cheating on her for years & with different bar sluts, I think that was enough forgiveness if you ask me. He didn't stop after the dozen or so whores he only realized what he had after she started divorce proceedings, well tough shit. Too little too late.
No forgiveness for the fucking prick asshole cheating husband. A preposterous tale. Assholes like him don't deserve a loving wife and family. He should live in an alcoholic daze on the street. Fucking prick.
