It is certainly the darkest thing of yours i've ever read. But it was very well written and definitely in keeping with the theme of Hallowe'en. Joe was a most despicable character with absolutely no redeeming qualities.
Well done on a quality piece! (Not that I would have expected any different from you)

A very spirited work...

...in the spirit of dark, introspective evil, that is. An absorbing drama--the content was appallingly inspired, the pace was often frantic in its urgency, and characterizations were cleverly minimalistic. I almost feel bad that I liked it so much...almost. :)

It doesn't get much darker than that! The way you played out the phone calls was masterful. Kept me absorbed from start to finish.

I've always loved devil stories. This was just... amazing. Kept me riveted. The characters, the description, the pacing, the action... it was all perfect. Until the last sentence, I wanted to believe Joe wouldn't do it!

Where's the ending?

The scary premise builds up to a disappointing non-ending. Developing character is fine in a novel but a short story requires a satisfying conclusion. The reader is left hanging, I felt gypped.
