Great Poem!

I thought it edged a little too much toward sentimental and that the ending could be more understated. Also thought the mention of I Hear America Singing, though it may be very meaningful for you, isn't really adding to the poem. But wonderful images and very clear. I know exactly the sort of men you mean. I wish there were more of them around now. :)

Your poem was recommended in the New Poem Review thread today on the Poetry Feedback and Discussion forum. :-)

Imagining pictures from "Appalachian Spring"

I was thinking, Gee: "Appalachian Spring" by Copland could be playing so well at the background of someone reading this poem. But I have to agree with Angeline, the way I see it, I was missing a bit of a contrapunct, or the deliberate unevening of the overly idyllic pictures, you know - making them a bit more real.
