Does he have ANY redeeming qualities? NONE that I can see. He is fixated in his ignorance... he believes that if you go to a Doctor you die. He lies to his wife about his possible Stomach cancer.... wont take ANY medicine or Chemo... and turns his fixation about seeing his wife with other men into an excuse to cheat?!

Enjoyed the story. I would like to have seen her viewpoint. Did she feel guilty at all for what had happened. Did she ever question not telling the police the whole story. I definately believe there could be a sequel

Yes, You Are......,

but aren't most of us, in one way are another at some point in our lives. If any of the other commenters had read the title with any perception, they might have expected some of the developments in the story. After more than forty years of counseling persons with stories about their foolish mistakes or the mistakes of those close to them, while trying to gain understanding or healing for their actions, I find your hero to be rather normal, over against the people I have dealt with in my lifetime.

D.G. I know you have written prolifically and hope that by this time you can accept and ignore those critics, who read this genre just for their sexual stimulation withou any intention of being involved with plot or charaterizations You do a good job; right on!!!

We all make mistakes

This is not just a story of an adulterer, it's a story about redemption and second chances. What could be better than that? Yes he was selfish and yes he did cheat but as I was told in Sunday School, " Who among you is without sin cast the first stone." We all screw up and sometimes the mistakes are permanent, I'm glad this story had a happy ending. Thanks for the story.

Just Ok

DG, I love most of your stories but this one is not up to your usual standards. The writing was good but the premise of the husband giving up and than having affairs is just to much to take. If you would have made his character weaker than the story would have been more believable.

A very good Loving Wives story

This is a good story and each of us has a so called moral compass to put into play as to how we see the behavior of Gregg. I can say this is more to normal then many people would like to believe. I guess it is not a fantasy some of the commenters like in a story. It sure has happened in real life and that I guess is not what many want to read here.I know how an act of betrayal like in this story can make the betrayer see it as “Oh well, no one was hurt so no big deal.” It also can make the betrayer so remorseful as to never want to let the betrayed down ever again. It is what makes some who have betrayed hate the idea or knowledge of others who also have strayed. You may have some commenters who have experienced this and hate it so much they hate seeing it portrayed in a fantasy story! Outrage of cheating, no matter how it is accomplished, is one sign of guilt they want to have an outcome they can applaud or at least live with.I thank you for your good effort and entertainment. Keep them coming as your stories are at the least very entertaining and provide commentary that can be good to outrageous for most readers.PT

This fiction - my reality !

Rarely would I leave a comment, however in this instance, I'm compelled to do so. My true life experiences are remarkably similar to some of the husbands in this story. Met her at 17, she was 21, blessed with a girl after 2 years and a boy 3 after that. I've never fooled around nor to my knowledge had she. My wife succumbed to cancer after our 30th anniversary - 11 years ago. I understand the desire to spare your loved ones the protracted agony of watching you being consumed by the illness's progression - but cannot agree with it. The wife in the story was correct regarding the chance to reminisce, resolve issues and appreciate true closeness.

Even as I was reading, I asked myself, "What is this about? Is it even worth my time, or the author's?"

It was so mediocre, it should not have been written.

I felt it would have been better, HAD something like, "Shit, I accidentally cut my left big toe off, when I was trying to cut some lumber with an old chain saw"... As it was, the "story" was like, "I walked down the street; picked my nose; smiled at a nice lady, as I was doing that. The end."

I mean, there is no point of any kind.

You have written a story of a pathetic shell of a

man. Whose pride rides before all others. Figuring you are going to die you go out and expose yourself to all forms of diseases to find you arent going to die at all but now you may have a nice disease to fight and possibly give to the woman who is your mate, wife, and real reason for existence. Dumb people do dumb things and stupid people do stupid things. You are both, they arent the same. She should have divorced you for the good the children and her own physical health. By the way some STD and AIDS testing takes up to a year to determine if you are or are not infected.

It's a story readers!

DG, you sure shook up a lot of readers with this one. I guess these people reading loving wives never thought of cheating. They just read about it. I find the characters in your stories to be credible people. I'm not saying they are right, but that they are more like real people.

I get tired of white women having to have big black cocks and men with 12" ones. There are real people in this world and you seem to be able to write about them.

Again, I'm not saying your characters are right but they could very easily be real. You are one of the best writers on Lit. You make all these readers either happy or mad enough about your stories to at least comment. Looking forward to your next one.

FIRST of all, there is presumably a Read-o-meter that tells how many people read (or open) each story.

AND then there is the Rating (from 00 to 100) just up there a bit.

BUT what i suspect really counts is the number of people who put pen to paper, so to speak, and write comments, actually put thought and effort in response to the tale.

AND for this writer there seen to be a large number.

Thank you all for the comments. I am rather surprised at so many negative ones on this story. I try to put the human element in my stories. Real people with real sickness and or fantasies.

I find it interesting how different people will respond in any given situation. Sickness, fantasy, even a cheating spouse. My characters have feelings and don't always do what's right. They are people with faults, like all of us.

I leave commenting open and appreciate the feedback. Sometimes I guess I just strike a nerve.

A great read, believable and realistic

You have written the story of a man who could be the guy you work with, your brother, your friend... anyone put in this position. He is real and he is normal, and the situation is realistic. The sudden threat of a deadly illness is enough to tip the most balanced mind, because suddenly all the possibilities of life seem snatched away. Gregg was only 45 with a single, lifetime sex partner. No honest, red-blooded male could say he has never thought of sex with another woman in that many years, and Gregg was the same. Look at it from another point of view; if my husband has a serious long term illness and I'm faced with the prospect of no more sex, ever, what do I do about my needs? Do I borrow a friend? Hire a guy somehow? Do nothing? The redeeming feature of this story is that Gregg realized his mistake and the true value of his family, but even if he didn't, his initial actions are understandable.

The story was very good and I can say that any man that was fortunate enough to marry a woman he loved would feel about casual sex the same way your main character ended up feeling. My problem with the story came when the doctor who removed his tumor spoke of the tumor bursting. I've had some experience with that, and can tell you this... tumors are a solid mass, caused by the unrestrained growth of specific cells in the body, and they don't burst. Also, multiple tomors would be considered stage 2 cancer, and the treatment would almost certainly include radiation in addition to the chemo therapy, and the treatment period would run closer to 5 months. I suspect the auther has be fortunate enough to never have learn any of these details.

Think about it. You set-up your male lead as a decent family man. Then, when a life-threatening illness rears its head, what does he do? Does he take the advice of an experienced Medical Professional? No. Does he speak with the only person to stick by his dumbass. No. Does he even speak with his CHILDREN? No. He turns into a frat boy! His main thought is not to "spare his family" but to live out his fantasies! As a family man, I would take my family on a cruise, or backpack through Africa. Something! Not smoke weed and get laid with strangers. How do you think his children would have felt when they learned of this after he died? They would have probably thought "Damn, the Ol'Man was not only a coward, but a hypocrite."

A realistic portrayal of life!!!

You can’t please all the people all of the time, but you do keep trying despite a marked lack of appreciation from some (generally anonymous) critics. This story is a realistic portrayal of life and our hero deserved and got a second chance at health and happiness with his true love and family. Those of us who love ‘Happy Endings’ should be very happy with this one DG! Keep them coming. Pete.

good tale with a foregone conclusion

As usual - a compelling writing in style and characters building. At times I am left wondering about the true source of the seemingly disproportionate harshness of the critique of what is after all just another character of a fallible human being. Perhaps people need some ritualistic venue to purge their anger towards whatever in their life seems unresolved or unjust. Who knows?
Where I felt that the story came somewhat short was when almost from the beginning, the conclusion of the story is already a known entity as is the process - namely a fool made a mistake; he recognizes it and somehow escaped the worst consequences and seemingly learned his lesson. The rest are the details which we learn later. Not much tension or curiosity are left for the essential plot question:"what next", when the results are pretty much a foregone conclusion.

Too bad they don't all end happily... My love at 57 was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and given 6 months to live.. lasted 2 months and the last week no one should have to go through the pain she faced. Thank god it was short even though it wasn't sweet. She at first wanted to be left alone and I talked her into at least trying... Should have left well enough alone. Thousands of dollars lost and days and weeks of pain for what? To die a death as though they strung her up and cut her apart without pain medicine? That is what it seemed like even though they DID all they could to relieve her as much as possible.

Who was in his hotel room with his wife while he was still in the hospital.
Don't get me wrong, she was/is a fantastic wife but - nonetheless - no dummy.
Strange sex might be out of the question and she doesn't seem the type to act vengeful but given the circumstances, go for some extramarital, enjoy it for its' worth, never bring it up and stay married to hubby, despite his cheating - she loved and understood him although doubtfully - agreed!
And - as she said, what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas and that goes for Reno too...get it!
He was right, he is naive but probably lucky he is bwecause I don't think he could handle it like her and no, I don't think she would go on sleeping around, she has what she wants and thanks to him...some Great memories!

A big mistake was made and this guy showed up at the Pearly Gates way before his time. God being who he is wants to do something really nice for the guy. He asked him what he would like. The guy says he would like to visit Hawaii. God said no problem we will just fly you there first class all the way. Guy says he is deathly afraid of flying, God said no problem we will put you on a cruise liner. Guy says he has tried it and got seasick something horrible. that the only way for him to get to the islands would be to drive God replies that is a might undertaking, do you have a second choice. Guy thinks and Yes God explain women to me. God leans back and thinks then says you want that highway 4 lane or 8?
