Sometimes more is more...

Not to be crude, but the eroticism really took a back seat to geopolitics and Sci-Fi at mid point through to the end with some reference to sex added in every once in a while with perhaps a paragraph or two devoted to it.

If you want to keep the bits about science and politics, that's fine and all, but it might not beed a bad idea to balance that with some baser material.

The story line in itself is awesome and I would love to read the rest.

Excellent so far

The long form novella is not a normal favorite. You have made an exeptional erotic SF novel with believable science creation. Keep up the good work. I look forward to the full version completing this story. I must admit to liking Gemmas better than Falik and the time space difference makes it easier to accept that he may not ever get back which is fine for this story.

Finished the Book

Good news! The final version of 'Alien Impulses' is ready, stands at 190,000 words, and is in preparation for publishing on Smashwords and Amazon.

It has been re-titled 'Voyage' and is envisioned as the first book in a sci-fi erotica series.

This was by far the best read on here I've found, both in story arc and cantstopreadingability. I want to critique for a couple typos and maybe some slight repeating in the hotter scenes, but got off 7 times (long weekend without to be fair). You'd have to find a beta that's a eunuch or something. Will download your ebook to the tablet when it's released.

Wonderful stuff. All pretty much up to date too. Slight worry is that, with the rate of development of all these things, the story could quickly go out of date. I think of the film 2001 (my favourite), by & large it's still valid even today. PANAM's disappeared and he didn't foresee little handheld mobile phones either. Look forward to the published story. Maybe a movie later? :-)

five stars, no question about it. don't get me wrong, I loved the story, However, here's some (hopefully) constructive criticism. I realise that this story is already a couple of years old, but in case you intend to finish it, maybe this helps :)

- the bloody protagonist has no name !!! Or did I just miss it? I doubt it. it was my personal "running gag" while reading. I waited for 40 pages for it to pop up, hoped that you'd save it until the end (only to find there was no proper end :) ).

- At some point the protagonist debates whether his relationship with Gemma is ok. He then concludes that he can't really return to Falik, because she'd be 80 years older once he'd get there. (Which is wrong, she'd only be 40 years older). But: I'm sorry, hello? The guy has an IQ of over 2000 now, his gf (Falik) is just as smart, he travelled through time for god's sake and promised to come back. But he only figured out that she'd be old by the time he'd get back once he has actually left? Surely this topic should have come up earlier.

- On that note. Age shouldn't be a problem? I remember reading that the Takanlian (?) population does hardly age and long life spans are very common due to their genetic modifications.

- I don't like time travel, because it seriously f***s up logics. Let's think it through. The protagonist is still abducted, but this around time he won't see a need to return to Earth because he himself will have fixed all the problems. But the abducted version (who won't return to Earth) will still become the boyfriend of Falik. Hence there is no point for the version who fixed the Earth's problems to return to Takanli, because his spot in Falik's bed will already be occupied (by his other version). Personally, I therefore would either shorten the distance or increase the travel speed, but leave time travel out of the story - or you'll have to do A LOT of thinking and "story designing" to make it fit.

- If I remember correctly, he found a red cube at the abduction site. Why would the Takanli leave a red cube? They don't know themselves that they had sent him back in time yet. Also, that cube is never mentioned again.

- Why doesn't Falik join him on his jurney? Apparently she looks perfectly human, and it should be simple to forge her an identity (Hal forged a bunch of fake identities for the protagonist just like that).

- Why is he allowed to leave in general? Okay, he's fixed the outer rim situation, but the Takanli still don't have what they actually abducted him for - a drug to get some emotions.

- Again on that note. I found it a bit odd that a population which has no emotions is into sex THAT much :) After all, sex is a relatively emotional thing. Maybe it would be funnier if he had to seduce some Takanli women into having sex with him (and then they'd find that sex with him is entirely different than with other Takanlis, so he can still become the sexual celebrity), rather than he is just offered sex left and right from the beginning.

- some of your figures are wrong / funny. call me nerdy but this bothered me. E.g. Jupiter is at most 6.2AU (9*10^8 km) away from the earth (if it's exactly on the other side of the sun from the earth, the average distance is much shorter). The cruiser with 0.7c or something should get there within two hours tops (even keeping a reasonable distance to the sun, presuming it has to fly by there), not twelve hours. Also, Europa has about 65% of the mass of the earth, ergo it should have about 0.65-G, not one sixth. I remember the figures you mentioned in that part when he re-entered our solar system to be funny as well.
