Definitely room for a sequel

If not a sequel, a short epilogue. Just to follow through and determine how all the characters involved end up.

Its a good sign of a successful story when the reader is left wondering what happens to the characters after THE END has made its appearance. Well done!

Great

Adultery in real life is one of the most painfull and distructive things going. In the aftermath the guilty parties very seldom wind up together, they usually can't stand each other. Great story and writing as always, Thanks!

Not quite

It was a good story, but not quite up to your standards. I have been amazed at how through out this series you kept the plots and characters just enough different, and how each of them had feeling. This one felt more like it was written from a formula. More like a Just Plain Bob, one from column A type story than what I have come to expect from you. Having stated that it was still better written than most. Michael

Good Writing; Credible Plot

Consequences are indeed a bitch. An epilogue would be interesting - my guess is that Shelly and Reed would try to make something happen and likely fail and that Tracy would surely stay with her dad. Sad story; very well written.

No one cares how the cheaters in this story came

out. They are trash, worthless pieces of human garbage. Let the guys wife soak him for everything he has now and in the future and dont give your wife anything she does not force you to do thru the courts. Selling your business and moving to say Ireland might be a good choice.

Pretty Good

I enjoyed the story which was well written, as usual, but I didn't find either of the main characters particularly endearing. Shelly was a woman who had everything in life but still manages to wander into an affair based solely on lust. Jerry seems to be nothing more than a money machine who showers his wife with baubles, trinkets, expensive jewelry and so on, thinking that these gifts are sufficient to show love. Their life began to trickle down when Shelly doesn't want to make the effort to have a second child and Jerry simply gives in to her.The one thing that was disturbing to me was the epiphany Shelly has the night before her marriage collapses. This is seen all to frequently in these stories where the wife suddenly realizes what she is doing and vows to change everything. This seems to be a common ploy by authors to make the denouement more devastating to the soon to be ex-wife.

Reasonably good story...

...for its intended target readership. Bad spelling in places and worse sentence structure. Cut-off sentences leaving out words or whole phrases is increasingly common in english. And this is not a good thing.

Much better!!

With authors like TheCelt you EXPECT a good story. The motivations seems a bit shallow but when you compate this stry to TheCelts's last one... its night and day.

In his last story The Detective a well seasoned hard edge cop sees his wife with her lover in hotel elevator at the same time she sees him. At the confrontation scene she is caught in 4 massive Lies... so the cop decides to take her back ???... and without any martial counselling or any consequences.

God that story was wretched.

THIS story is Far better. Sure the ending where wife sort of has a premotion that the shoe is about to drop... what I am I doing??? ....is a bit cliche. But this story is far better.

The Husband does seems a bit materialistic and shallow...
I dont know if thats intentional or not. But that certainly does NOT justify what she did.

The KEY here is that the wife didnt love two men. She turned cold nasty and bitter towards her husband and cut him off emotionally and sexually. Shelly clearly fell OUT of love with her husband in a BIG way and out of love with her kid and her entire life for that matter.

But that being so what is her motiviation? Shelly only felt remorse the night before the divorce papers showed up. She did not "wakeup" on her own.

All of this smacks of something Much deeper than just Shelly being in lust. We all lust over other people/ spouses all the time --that doesnt mean we loathe our spouses...

There is something else at work here.

thecelt is a good writer, but

there comes a time when he has to try something original. I think we have the "consequence" plot down. The wife cheats and the husband divorces her. That seems to pretty well cover it, over and over again. Even the most loyal of fans must be pretty tired of this basic plot line. As well as you write, give us something fresh. You have it in you.

I would like to take issue with the commenter

directly below. You seem upset because the Celt wrote about another cheating wife...well poo poo...If there were not so many cheating wives that cheated there would be nothing to write about. Perhaps those of us that don't hold to cheating need a boost every now and then from the wimp husbands and little drippy dicked men that get their little one inch peckers hard at the sight of his wife fucking another man. How about the hot wife stories where the woman is a pure cheap slut whore with a dripping crusty matted with coum wife...Do you get off on those stories..Are you a wimp...and you get angry to see that a husband acted like a man...well...are you...take your comments and shove then wimp....marriedwithballs@yahoo.com

Sure it's formulaic,

but when we see the Consequences tag, we should expect just what we get. The series has been varied enough to be enjoyable. Sure, we know what the outcome will be, but so what. The way we get there is the real fun. If these were the only stories theCelt contributed it might get old, but these are only some of a varied collection which has provided me with much enjoyment. No new ground has been broken here, but there is nothing wrong with working in an established garden. To paraphrase some old hippies...write on.

Great Story, consequences are a bitch!

Wow! This is the first of your stories I've read. I'm looking forward to reading the rest. The only thing I'd like to have seen is more of what went on next! I'd love to see her suffering and pain and that of Reed Cunningham. Well done writting and plot and teh story totally captivated me.

Great As Usual

I love reading from the woman's point of view cause women are still a mystery to me. I too cannot understand how someone can risk losing the one you love for a purely physical attraction. Love this series and the justice of the unfolding events. People should pay for their actions, but I would have been more forgiving if the wife had stopped the cheating after the first time.

great consequences story

This is another excellent story by Celt. It's believable by which I mean that similar situations are of common knowledge. What I don't like is the theme of the story: the husband makes millions/billions of dollars on his own, etc., and becomes something of an icon in the corporate world and then there is cheating by a bored wife. You know, this is a pretty common theme in many of the stories in 'Loving Wives.'A lot of stories about life and love among members of the top 10% on the economic pyramid. I would like to see themes which involve couples of the middle and blue collar classes too. RAG

I'm torn here Celt

The problem I have with the story was that while I know you were trying to show a "hurting" husband, to me it always seems you make the husband seem like an inflexible jerk who always over reaction.

For example: The fact that Reed was married and had two girls, both under five years old, was his only weak point. The report mentioned that Reed was very devoted to his wife and his girls. In his anger, Jerry considered that weakness a vulnerability Huh? I just don't know "why" this part of the story maked me feel like he's trying to find a way to take out his anger on Reed's kids. Like he's trying to strike back at Reed through his children.

The whole story just made me feel like he was out to get even with is wife for cheating on him and with her lover. And I'm not sure why. I mean if she was cheating, and he couldn't accept it, then the marriage was over. That's kinda why, up until recently, adultery was listed as a reason to get divorced. One mate was stepping outside the marriage and the other mate wasn't interested in hanging around while they did that. But often time I feel like in your stories your trying to show the husband as insensitive, hardhearted, and manipulative for not choosing to stay with the wife after he discovers an affair.

Why is that? Why do I almost always come away from a story of yours where the husband divorces the wife and feel those three things almost all the time?

-Risq

Great Telling and Tragic Stupid People

You do your contribution well, perhaps too well. I almost missed the story of the world ending for two little girls. Sure the guilty party was their father, but they will pay the price. The problem is that both of the lovers acted like little children and buried everyone. But on the other hand once they did, it their SO's did not have any reasonable choice.

Incomplete to my mind

Department of Redundency Department

Let's check out the ol' formula: Wife cheats, for some flimsy reason, husband (perfectly noble fellow who has never even given a Jimmy Carter 'lust in the soul' look at another woman,) inadvertently finds out, doesn't stop the affair but spends his energy getting proof, and then, gotterdammerung! Wife is crushed, lover is crushed and husband reigns triumphant! The reliable stable of misogynists applauds another masterpiece of literature, rivaling Shakespeare, Dostoyevski or Proust.

Some of us just wonder how satisfying can it be to have written the same chapter of a story for the twenty-fifth time? LOL!!!

Applause Author - Life is Consequential + or -

First - you are looked forward to for your talent and its use in realistic lifelike manner.

You preempt and disappoint those who are into male self disrespect and sought male humiliation as well as those who feel unconsequential reconciliation is the only path.

How more unrealistic could they be?

It is quite human to root for the offended who doesn't deserve the disrespect heaped upon them by the one person who shouldn't by contract. It is the most grievous damage to any sworn partnership.

I am not surprised by the comments of some dissenters who can't spell lifelike consequences because they live in a one handed world of unreality.

I was surprised by the comment of one who I normally respect - how puzzling Risq. 001. For one so usually rational to be so bias and judgemental indicates memory loss or weed driven irrationality.

For those who have forgotten or are new here. When an Author writes of life and its complex problems especially in a marital infidelity setting, if anything but realistic consequence to result would be cheaply unlike life. Life deals it plus or minus everyday for every action small or large and we have all felt it.

We are proud of each days pluses and ashamed of the negatives to the extend of their severity and the fallout.

That is what this Author writes so well of. He and a few others use their talent to display justice for those offended. To be sure justice is tempered by the severity of the offense resulting in possible or real reconciliation for the ones-ies or true accidents. Longer intentional selfish disrespect merits more severe accountability and loss - some irrational just like life.

The comment of formulaic plot paths isn't true here but there are always certain consistencies in any life mirroring infidelity. Only the setting and Authors imagination can make each situation somewhat different in circumstance and discovery.

With millions of divorces each year, the personal circumstances are fertile in number and slants but basic in offense.

I once had a boss who said "bring me a proposed solution whenever you come to me with a problem. The reason is you are obviously much closer to the problem both real and perceptually than I am. That way I can benefit from your first hand concerns and thought out proposed solution.

Author - you and your talented work is much appreciated for its reality and justice which you vary by the your foundation of circumstance.

With Very High Regard

Well, there sure were lots of comments . . .

I think a sign of a good story is the way it stimulates people to think about it. Maybe a bad one would do that too, but then, a bad one would only get a lot of bad ratings, not the case here where most are high. The plot does follow a formula but brings out varied scenarios and differences in the ways people interact. I think each "consequence" story is sufficiently different that most readers remain interested and entertained. I note there was one comment by a reader who was concerned about Reed's little girls and how they will be hurt when Reed's wife almost certainly divorces him. Well, Jerry really did not cause this, Reed did by being a womanizer and preying on married women! What about the other married women and their families Reed might harm in the future if he is not stopped? Why should he get off with no consequences to his actions? I know some men who would find a way to catch Reed and his "magnificent" body and beat the shit out of him for his trespasses. Maybe this would result in jail time but maybe a jury would be lenient given the circumstances. It would certainly cause Reed to have a lot more respect for the spouse whom he cuckolded. I suppose someone like Reed might come after Jerry to retaliate for the pictures sent to Reed's wife. Jerry most likely can handle himself; if not, then Reed will do lots of jail time. Do we smell some testosterone here? One other way to make Reed vulnerable that was not brought out; if the Senator were to find out his staff (Reed) was sexually harassing a married staffer (Shelly) at the campaign headquarters, I suspect he would really be pissed. It could threaten his re-election campaign. The Senator in fact could have his bodyguards take care of Reed at an appropriate time. Any/all of these possibilities could be included in a sequel, which would be very much appreciated by many of your readers, Celt. Thanks for a good read.

Not that strong, some good writing

Basic weakness in this one is that more is promised than delivered. The wife will be divorced but she'll be rich and she doesn't seem all that much in love with her husband anyway. The other guy will have marital problems, maybe get divorced, but that's not exactly ruining him. I don't know why you talk in large terms about retribution when there really isn't any; people get divorced all the time and she'll be a good-looking divorcee with money. I don't see how this is a "Consequences" story because you don't develop any sense of loss for her, only momentary feelings of guilt. Perhaps if you'd told the story as a flashback you could have framed the results as the real Consequences.

I agree with Cloacas

what she felt was simple TEMPORARY loss: dependable husband and provider.

she would lack very little attention, with the money and other assets she's left with. there's no deep love, despite the temporary tears of being mildy insulted by a man she hardly thought much about for months.

so, "retribution" and "consequences" were NOT a "bitch," really.

if you truly wanted some self-satisfying retribution/revenge, craft the story in such a way that allow the wrong doer to tell us the pain, the ENDURING pain, she/he felt YEARS afterward.

but this is simply making Shelly into some cardboard or plastic vagina: with little or no real emotions, thoughts, wants, or needs other than those crude/cliche kinds she showed with Reed.

again, the "revenge"/"retribution" was rather lame, with all the wronged guy/husband's attempt at tough/Rambo talks.

AT LAST...

At last I have had the pleasure of reading a new story by you.
Your work (all of it) stands out in the wasteland known as "Literotica," a field almost entirely littered with trash.

One minor point: I feel that Shelly's motives for her infidelity were not sufficiently clear.

It's what it is!

A note regarding comments that the wife got off easy...
First, this is a "loving wives" story, not Sci-Fi. Most stories of this type the "consequences" are unbelievable and often even ludicrous. The court systems know that wives exagerate their assets while husbands try to minimize them.
Most states are no fault. In many a computer program is used to determine who gets what amount! Good opposing councels love it when husbands hide assets. More work for them and they often uncover it. We live in a world of computers and audits. Had the husband tried to do more, he would have been caught.
The only reasons I did not give this a 100% was that I thought your character development wasn't as good as usual. Also, I wish that you had given a 3-6 month epilog.
Thanks for all your writings, you are appreciated!

What If?

I have a "What If" for you fellow readers. What if Shelly, after she realized just what she had done and finished her being sick, etc., had staggered downstairs and confessed totally to Jerry all of what she had done, who she had done it with, and how sorry she was for making such a mess of things.

How do you thing that would have turned out?

At this point - too late

In answer to Sparks373. At this point it was too late. He had already found out. He already knew her lies. He had already decided to divorce her. She would be just a little too late to save her marriage. If however, she had confessed her affair before he had found out; there would have been a good chance she could have saved her marriage.

Good tone, style and dialog marked this story. However, you failed to deliver the goods. The lack of definitive consequence left me unsatisfied. I now must ask: Has this series lost it's focus? You seem to be rehashing old territory.

In response to Flat.

I liked the plot and the apparent conclusion of this story. I would have liked a couple more chapters detailing the fate of the cheaters in black and white. It did, however, feel rushed and the cheated spouse and daughter do feel a little two dimensional. I figure though thecelt is setting us up for a chapter two where he destroys the husbands moral footing and establishes grounds for a reconciliation.

I still feel

I still feel, that if Shelly had come down stairs that night and confessed all, that Jerry would have listened and questioned her for a long time. Then I feel he would have had the delivery of the divorce papers held up for a few days while he thought about it, but still had the rest put into action. That way he could judge Shelly's response to the actions. While it was a little difficult to get a "feel" for Jerry's deep emontions, those that are more subconsious. What he really feels WAY deep inside, I think he would give her a chance.

watching two running trains, about to crush...

An impressive story. I loved the use of the 'split screen' technique, which elevated the tension and highlighted the contrast between the spouses (something like: 'at the same she and the lover were getting to bed, her husband was ready for the next step...’). The progress of the plot was the equivalent to watching two trains running at each other to the inevitable crush, when even the wife's last minute realization that there could be such a crush and her effort to prevent it, simply come too late. A nice touch.
Could we ask for more of those well narrated consequences stories? It would be perfect for the hot days of the summer...

One of your best

However, you MUST get over the notion that merely divorcing acheating women is any kind of negative "consequence". It's not. Trust me. I've bartended more divorce parties by women, who after getting divorced were left financially secure, than you can count. They partied (and screwed) their asses off. Ask any male caterer, bartender or hell, even a parking valet.

Devoted to his childern?

I don't think so b/c if a father is he will never do the one thing that would hurt them more that anything else. Reed & Shelly caused all these things to happen, but if I was in Jerry's place I would have had them served at the Senators campaign HQ very publicly so that all would know that those 2 could not be trusted nor depended on.
