wonderful

Very observant and introspective. I think it's a wonderful story. Thank you. From time to time, we all need to look in our own mind, to look back or look forward, and this for various reasons. G.Belgium.

There is a little button

One quickly learns to control the newer machines, mine will turn within it's own length, on battery power.
With just one healthy arm, a freewheel machine is nearly impossible. Typically a simple click of a lever puts both wheels in forward drive, however.
Otherwise the slightest incline or obstruction and a person is stopped requiring help.
In my case I do not have even one fully functional arm, yet I manage, steering with the controls on one side.
We would rather not need to ask for help.
Something I know about. Still, a good story, a person uses what is available.

Since I am in a wheelchair but have 2 arms,

I can tell u of the myriad of emotions going thru his/my head: 'thanks 4 the help' OR 'goddam bitch, doesn't she think I've done this BEFORE!' I'll usually take any help I can get OR I may b feeling mad at the world 4 no good reason & I'll resent your help. The best thing u can do is keep hands off until he ASKS 4 help. It may depend on his mood OR whether he has someplace he HAS 2 b! Hell, u r damned if u do & damned if u DON'T! It's all really up 2 him.

Very nice

...Very well done my friend. I love how you have that mental debate with yourself.

Speaking for myself it really isn't about the HELP, but the respect of the offer AND more importantly respect of the response. I have come across three kinds of people. Those who will help without asking if you need or want help, those who will ask if you need help and respectfully walk away when you say no, and the ones I HATE are the ones who will ask; I say no; but hey help anyway. IF I SAY NO THEN WITH ALL DUE RESPECT GET LOST!!!!

Thank you for getting this message out there for people to see.
