Have a 3rd party proof your story
An editor would have caught the wife's name change from Ella to Gloria. Also parenthetical comments like "(their daughter)" are weak. You might as well have had two children so you could refer to them as "the kids" and get past that clumsy part.

It seems as if someone's preferences were treated as factual rather than as generalization. Charlie's opinion on what "most" couples like may be true for a large number but doubtfully "most".
