Not one of your better stories
I usually like your stories, but not this one. It's so cliched. The discovery of cheating afte going home to happily announce the promotion, for one. And the wife - so brain dead! It seems incredible to me that their marriage lasted as long as it did with someone that stupid and selfish. A much more interesting story would have a woman with conflicting and complicated emotions that come across as believable. This one was basically: "Hmm, I like that bulge. I think I'll cheat. Okay! Issue settled."
Yay - another Celt story!
I agree that it wasn't one of your best, but that's just because you set the bar so high with your best stories. Glad to see you back, and hope that you'll write more soon!
As always good story
Yes okay a little cliche'd but far better than any wimp husband story. At least this husband knew what to do! Okay the wife is a basket case but no sympathy here. looking forward to your next story.
GOOD READ
I enjoy your work. Your name makes me stop and take notice. You and a small group of writers make this site great. At least for me. Everone to their on tastes. Your writing talk to me and I enjoy them. Thanks again until the next time.jrj
Another great story but this author!
Life lessons - we enjoy this author's efforts on the "consequence series" very much. Thanks!
Good, if not great.
As has been mentioned previously, you have so many great stories that it would be impossible for all to be thus, but your so called "lesser" efforts are far superior to most everything posted here.
As far as this tale, we are made aware of Essie's consequences, but we should also know that Jeff suffers greatly for her infidelity. 19+ years is a long time to get over. We can only hope that he finds happiness either by himself, or preferably with someone more loyal. Enjoyable story. Thanks. Paul
Abrupt
Nice story but the meat was all in the set-up when you could have carried out more.
weak incomplete shallow
This story is a total failure... the wife actions are totally unexplained and superifical. You see up until she is caught there is not the slightest bit of remorse or concern about her husband or her marriage.
So when she IS caught what the hell is she upset about?
She says she Loves her husband but she fucked the other guy for over a year.
The only problem was that nothing I did carried over into my husband's bed. I still had no desire to make love with him and I felt nothing I was doing was wrong. I knew that I was not thinking correctly but I didn't care. I didn't want to give up Bill and I didn't want to make love with my husband Jeff.
She was NOT having a double life with her husband and the fucking the other guy on the side ....she had NO life with her husband. INTENTIONALLY
The whore wife KNEW something was wrong-- Menopause ??-- but she INTENTIONALLY did not seek help. She would NOT talk to him . She wanted nothing to do with him ... again INTENTIONALLY .
So when finally caught-- of course its one last time she was going to be with the other guy ... how ridiculously cliche -- she starts to cry and is shock.
HUH? what ??
well written as usual BUT
little character development and the relationship between husband and wife delt with minimally
Thanks
I love the consequences series and this is another good one. I don't understand the nit-picking by some of the others. Thanks for this latest submission.
Interesting.
Nice piece. You could launch from this into a longer story (or two separate stories), but I'm not sure you aren't better served by leaving it as it sits. Good writing.

A Strong Effort by Someone Who Can - KUDO's
Author - you have the ability to tell a story without overburdening it with how to build a watch.
Clear clean direct and to each point as it happens in life everyday again and again.
There is a lesson in each consequence for both those offended and the offender. However, life isn't always learned by the mistakes of others. The selfish bullet proof few or some require their own mistaken experience to penetrate the Kevlar vest of I'll never be caught.
I / we look forward to your next imaginative effort told so well in life speak that some don't want to understand.
With Very High Regard
Then to the Va. frother - not every story can be detailed to every nit as neither the writer or 99.9% of the readers have time. Grow up or take some more med's. Your credibility frother is taking a dump.
Good Read
I enjoyed the story. Consequences has always been one of my favorites. Thanks for the post.
A Good Addition to the Series
Clear, straight-forward writing. I can see how she would get sucked into a pattern of behavior without ever thinking about it. IRL, though, she'd go back to the gym, get in shape, and snare another sucker or perhaps I should say licker. Women are too practical to sulk after love lost.
Fairly good story . . .
The story of course gets us men feeling good about a man who can kick out the trash and get on with his life instead of being a wimp and reconciling. And I think Jeff did the right thing. But I agree with others about the plot being one that has been over-used in similar stories. Often the partner who most needs the help, be it counseling, medication for depression, or whatever, is the least willing to accept the help. It's often a good clue as-to who was the one with the original problem that started the conflict(s) in the marriage. Contessa's actions are really not credible unless she has a mental illness. Why would an empty-nester (actually, it began before the nest was empty) become so self-destructive, not to mention betraying a man she claims to love? Even depression would not explain this. I'm no shrink but I'm thinking that family, friends, someone would at least get Contessa into some counseling. It won't bring her husband back but the alternative would seem to be eventual suicide. She is really all fucked up; I don't find her stream of consciousness rationalizations to be particularly convincing or lucid. I suppose if she really were mentally ill, and one were to take marriage vows seriously, one could try to argue that Jeff should have stayed with her "in sickness and in health." Of course, one might equally argue that anyone who commits murder must be mentally ill, insane as it were, because mentally well people don't murder others . . . I don't buy that argument and I certainly wouldn't buy the idea that Contessa was so mentally unbalanced that she was not responsible for her actions -- the story indicates she knew what she was doing and she knew it was wrong, but she was somehow helpless to resist her compulsion to cheat, disrespect her husband, and so forth. I think only psychobabble can straighten out a mess like this . . .
uh,
after this i kind of worry about whats been happening in your life, celt. i hope everything is ok and your soon back to snuff, and the celt of old.
Outstanding as Usual!
Thanks for a WIMP-FREE story (they are few and far between on this site). Some commenters desire some sort of psycho-babble explanation for Essie's cheating. How about the old "she wanted to doo it." First of all if you wanted to pick a psychological reason how about the resentment Essie harbored for the change in her life. She had devoted her life to being a mother to Phillp and that was changing. She took her resentment out on Jeff -first disrespect, then betrayal. But mental illness? I never heard of an illness specific to a person. Would she had snapped out of her dual life? Doubtful, since more disrespect does not lead to redemption. It also struck me that she was never gulity about her cheating with Bill. She never sought to seek help for her disaffection with Jeff. I wonder how many loney divorced senior citizens are alone because they failed to talk with their mates. Thanks again for a great story of accountablity!
Harry, I’ll have to respectfully disagree here
IMO, It’s exactly because of the wife’s confused irrational and self defeating mindset that she drives her life and the marriage to the ground. As far as her rationalization for the cheating, that’s how rationalizations usually work – or rather don’t work. Being a ‘pretend rational’, they do not stand a true examination. Sure enough, and exactly for this reason the person who creates the excuse (or the rationalization) never examines it thoroughly. The usual scenario is that only when the rationalized behavior (the rationalization is needed to eliminate or reduce an internal conflict, at least partially on a sub conscious level) clashes with reality, does the falsehood of the rationalization reveal itself to the person who created the rationalization in the first place. It is a common form of defense mechanism we all use from time to time and to different degrees
Obviously I disliked the wife's character, and thecelt portrayal of confused self serving and at times self contradictory inner thoughts made it much easy to understand why I felt so... Moreover, her portrayal was refreshingly ‘three dimensional’ (a rare occasion, as far as women characters’ portrayal goes in the LW section).
On the other hand, the husband’s character seemed to be rushing through the mandatory stations of the traditional LW cheating plot –as if he could wait no longer to pass through the story on his way to Miami… Good for him; sort of a miss for the reader…
Thanks for the good read, thecelt.
Life is a bitch. Getting older is not for the weak
I have to say this is another of your consequence stories with a strait forward, this is what went down and this is what happened. It is done well and yet it is so familiar of your other recent tales. I will say I am disappointed in some commentary, low scores and to dish the story when everything they find wrong was there for everyone to see and find there own conclusions of. How does this make this a bad story? Nothing was missing or untold, it was a woman who needs help and refuses to talk or act on her miserable present existence. It is a man who tried his best and ran up against a wall till the lightning strike made it all crystal clear, this part of his life was over. Life goes on for all, but the type of life is up to each person to struggle with or just lie down and fritter away.Thank you for the entertainmentPT
Depression!
Is a real thing and thats exactly what this sounds like. That husband didn.t try harder is one thing, but wife should have at least told him some of what the problem was. If he has stoped turning her on at all marriage was over anyway so that part shouldn't matter. The problem is wife is likley to kill herself without some help. Thanks for the story.
Keep up the good work!
I like the "Consequences" stories. IMHO you are one of the top writers here on the site. In both of your last two "Consequences" editions, Contessa and Shelly, the defeat and the retribution is so complete that it would be fascinating to follow up on those situations down the road to see how those wives got on with their lives; to see how they recovered (if they did) and moved on. All of your stories are written well and it gives the reader a chance to speculate and conjecture about what might happen next. It makes the scenarios that much more entertaining.
I look forward to the next offering. Thanks Celt.
Very nicely done
An excellent study in denial by thecelt. Essie's adamant refusal to admit that she's depressed and seek professional help is a classic symptom of denial. Having been there myself, denial is a fiercesome enemy, beguiling and treacherous. The depression skews her thinking, and she wanders off course into adultery. Because Essie refused to get help for her mental condition, she ended up losing everything she valued in life save the love of her son. It's a poignant story, and one that thecelt tells very well. Thank you for another fine Consequences tale.
deserving fate
the cliche, she made her bed ....- and now in her own self imposed hell, and he's done w her!
Well done!
Cooked and served. Well written. Thanks.
Good Storyline...
Thanks for a well written & articulate though sad story. What surprised me the most was that none of the other commentators picked up on how alike the chatacters of Joyce & Essie were. Both refused to go out, both refused their husbands sex and both undermined and bitched at their husbands. If Essie was too sick to realise what she was doing to her hubby, Bill should have been in a perfect position to see the similarities & suggest that Essie finds a solution to her marriage probably thru divorce as she was no longer sexually attracted to Jeff. That it what a friend would do, but Bill just used Essie for his own gratification. Thanks for the story

bed of her own making
if she was unhappy, before, she certainly becamse moreso. a deserving life for her
I am so happy some mindless psychobabble was
not used to make the husband take back this bitch of a wife. She is one of the lowest women I have ever read about. One wonders why she hasnt just killed herself. Of course the son forgave her, it wasnt him that was destroyed by the sluts actions. She didnt love her husband she loved her lifestyle and her son.
too
too much bs ..............
1* too old
Voted a 5 ***** just because the moron dwornock gave it a 1*
good story
Nice story
Really liked the story. I have seen several of the comments posted by Dwornock and have to agree he is a moron. What he seems to forget is that he and his generation did not invent sex and whatever they are doing has been done by millions of people long before he was born. I know it may come as a shock Dwornock but you have not invented anything regarding sex that hasn't been done before. And the day will come when you to will be middle aged or older and I feel sorry for you because given your apparent opinion that means that your life will essentially be over. Good luck with that little puppy.
Very good.
I gave you 5*. I enjoyed it. Thanks.
Good Read
This story line is a tried and true the wife cheats in her own home gets caught and feels sorry. Thanks for sharing.

good story
Gave it a 5 star because he moved on and proved he was a man and not a wimp. Love this series.
I don't believe
the son would continue speaking to his slut of a mother. That just doesn't ring true with me.
Heartless CUNT!
That summit it up. She has no heart and a woman without a heart = cunt. I liked the husband. no wimp here, maybe clueless, but no wimp. good story
Downer!
Feel sorry for the husband, ashamed of son for not empathizing with his father, and glad to see the destruction of the unthinking and emotionless wife who thinks only of herself and her short term satisfaction. Still a good tale of a bad situation which probably happens too often in real life. Celt, you can write good stories with a more upbeat ending. Dan
Very good...
I enjoyed the read; thanks.
Denial
Denial is an amazing thing. It allows people to go through long horrible situations, and survive better than if they faced the truth head on. On the other hand, it allows weak people to lie to themselves and break the rules for their own ego gratification. They come up with lies to try to cover the truth, but in the end the truth always comes out, one way or the other. This woman is clearly a selfish, weak minded person. People that are not too smart must be disciplined to follow the rules or they will face the consequences.
Good!
Good for him. He did it right. His ex should not be to hard to forget after the way she treated him. It is surprising that he put up with her as long as he did even without the cheating. She is truly a woman without any redeeming qualities.
Nice
Fucking cunt. The cost of betrayal is everything. For a strange cock she lost everything she dreamed of with her husband, the love of her life. Stupid fucking cunt.
Perhaps you should invest in a dictionary
And look up the word 'Consequences', because you seem to have misunderstood its meaning. Constance, or Constipation, or whatever you called her, certainly received none. Son forgave her - no consequences. Husband gave her loads of money apparently, so, no consequences there. Lover's wife was never told, so he gets to keep on coming next door, anytime she wants him to from now on, so no consequences there either. Husband left? So what? She didn't want him anyway! So zero consequences there!
In fact, in all of your mis-titled series of 'Consequences', the only ones that seem to suffer any, are the husbands!
And please
Will everyone stop saying that the wives in these stories lost "The love of their lives", because it is simply retarded. If someone is supposedly the love of your life, then you don't cheat on them and treat them like shit, simply because you LOVE them, dummy!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again; you cannot have it both ways! Either he is ' The love of her life', therefore she NEVER cheats, because she LOVES him, Or, he ISN'T 'the love of her life', and she cheats. A difficult concept for some to grasp, I know.
That woman is certifiable
Hard to believe Jeff couldn't recognize how deep in depression she is. She should be on medication. Hard to say she'll ever recover. At least he got the easy way out.
Not again...
Typical thecelt plot: wife reaches 45 and goes crazy, starts cheating for no good reason and generally becomes a bitch. All caused by some psychoBS. Please...
